I really liked your guys' ideas to make Mako more useful during these first couple of episodes. As a fan of his, It would of been cool seeing him take more action. I hope the next 2 episodes make you feel for him a bit more. He's definitely a character who's comfortable in his normal environment but struggles outside

It's almost frustrating, cause they have him doing detective work like that right after they get back to Republic City, so the idea IS THERE. It's just hard to imagine how they missed incorporating that into his character at the beginning of the season

Fortunately, the next two episodes utilize Mako's skillset much better. I really feel like Mako is much more digestible the further removed he is from relationship threads. As the show goes on, he's pretty useful in helping further the plot beat-to-beat on the investigative front.

Well, bolin and mako didn't run errands for thugs. They did bookkeeping for them as kids because they literally had no support. Bolin did however participate with "shady shin" for some "security work" where he got kidnapped by equalists in ep3.

I think even in season one there was a jailbreak - they infiltrated the equalists underground camp to get korra (who wasn’t there) and the metalbending police officers. So far I think every season of both these shows has a jailbreak episode - I never noticed that until you all pointed it out lol

I actually prefer Mako being less focused in the beginning of the season. Mako does get more action later on and throughout almost of the series. Honestly, the season isn’t terrible- it has really good moments… However, compared to season 1 & 3 it falls a little flat.

As far as I remember, they got the order for Season 2 very quickly after the end of Season 1......which at the time they had thought was all they were going to get. Thus the short turnaround meant this one was a lot less planned out than AtLA or S1. Then S3 is really well put together and paced, then S4 unfortunately goes back to studio meddling again...

Yeah, Season 2 is the weakest by far. Still has some really good things, though. Like the introduction of Varrick and Zhu Li, and some stuff still coming up. According to stuff I've read over the years, Varrick's basically based on the personalities of Howard Hughes, Richard Branson, and William Randolph Hearst.

The season does a lot of set up for season 3 so maybe that’s another reason why it doesn’t feel complete or as interesting? Also, budget cuts and limited episodes makes the writing fall short?
