Over the years however, changes have been made to endgame systems and even domains that effectively undermined his one singular purpose. Today we'll be discussing how the Anemo Archon went from one of the most widely used characters in the game, to potentially not even the best choice for his specialty.

The mechanic is there, Jean reduces the weight of enemies with her charge attack, so does Venti with his E. If lv 100 is real, and third passive do become a thing, it will be interesting that Venti's burst duration is increased and periodically starts reducing the weight of the enemies in the area, making him able to at least gather heavy enemies and maybe lock down the position of some bosses after being exposed to Venti's pull for like a second or 2.

As a venti enjoyer, the biggest issue imo is his burst not having a variable cast range. Just like Vars says, his burst effectively functions as a "projectile." But, I feel it would be so much easier to use if it can be casted closer or farther from you depending on how close the closest enemy is. Maybe it would end up being detrimental for some players.. but it would make his boss fights a lot easier

Kazuha and wanderer says hi for traversal and sucrose and Kazuha says hi for ‘gathering’ enemies. Especially since sucrose is not only a four star but also can buff elemental damage. He is simply the fine example of mihoyo intentionally fking over characters by nerfing thar utility, like inazuma enemies couldn’t be pulled for the most part and then they conviently released a better unit who CAN drag said enemies.

@@kitnal4143 the emphasis was that Kazuha got special interactions like gathering objects like Klee’s bombs and similar things. Instead of hot fixing it so it would work with venti’s stuff they ignored it instead of what they did with zhong’dong. Throw in the fact this was tied into his spammable e skill, means it was way more useful on demand, where venti’s e skill fell into a ditch with how terrible it was in combat value. Now if only you could ‘shoot in mid air’ or something, then maybe venti could of did aerial shooting or something to GIVE it a unique nature that almost every single CC specific unit fking flipped them off in spades. Zhongdong has retarded levels of shields and petrify, which means venti straight up got power crept in the first year by another archon. Nahida straight up said why need to CC, when she can just tether enemies to chain blast them and also had sucrose’s gag of roiding damage out. Raiden simply existing in both a dps, support and battery role and Furina just basically killing the archon party meme by being both an archon and not an archon at the same time technically. Imagine how much fking shite the nathlan archon would have todo to kick ANY of the current 4 archon meta party team out of the party, because ain’t no way they gonna pull a fatui moment and NOT make the archons able to synergize with eachother and likely over half the roster rather easily too.

​​@@BladeSerph his niche is entirely crowd control and swirl damage output, neither of which have been remotely as strong with any of the characters you named. If we ever get a character that buffs swirl damage, Venti will be the character that's multiple times stronger due to how many swirls he can hit per second. Just because they also use swirl and/or CC doesn't mean they're better than him at his intended niche, they're only seen as better characters since they have other capabilities that aren't the same role because since Inazuma dropped nearly every enemy has intentionally been designed so that Venti doesn't properly work against them. What makes swirl good is how many enemies you can group and anemo you can apply for quadratic scaling, of which Venti in an ideal light enemy setup does that better than anyone. Back when Fatui were the strongest enemies in abyss (and floors actually had unique effects/goals) Venti was one of the strongest units period.

I think a slept on problem was that Venti seems like a byproduct of an old design direction for bow users. I feel like they had intended to actually put gameplay in to support aiming and weak-points, but dropped it really early on and never revisited characters that had passives relating to those mechanics.

I've been running this comp with him, Nuvilette, Ganyu, and Barbra in the liyue talent book domain, it feels so busted, i walk in use barbra's skill, start, run over to the exit where the fatui guys spawn in the second wave, use ganyu's burst while the mitachurls run over to me freezing them as soon as they hit barbra's skill, then I use venti's burst and skill, swap to nuvilette and do his skill and start hosing them until the fatui agents spawn and get sucked up and or frozen in place. the hydro resonance boosts nuvilette's damage, venti's burst swirls the cryo, and the way I built them means his and ganyus burst is Always back up, so I can just repeat the process and each run usually only takes about a minute and a half. it wont work everywhere but it works in a lot of places, I think venti+nuvilette is a great combo in general since venti can hold (almost) everything in one spot for nuvilette to powerwash. also who gets called a diet venti all the time? sucrose, who was also one of the 4 stars on nuvilette's banner.

That sounds fun :D! I’ve recently been running him with Layla, siguween, and furina.(probably going to switch Layla out in the future- but the freeze comp is alot of fun to use!) everything is sparkly when battling lolol, and aside from siguween’s bubble gun, Layla jingles when she walks. The only downside is I feel like it takes too much time to use siguween’s bigger healing bubble; since I think I hv to have her at c2 to get a shield when using her charge attack unfortunately. Everyone stays healed enough regardless tho; so I can just throw a bubble and switch. Rn I’ve been doing venti’s burst, then furinas burst and charge, then Laylas burst and charge, then siguweens charge and burst, then repeat.

The thing is he still hasnt had his own chapter like the other archons. Mondstadt's archon quest is labelled as the prologue and its true since it was just an introduction to the game and getting us caught up to the current event in Teyvat. In total that quest was 45 minutes long meanwhile Nahida's was 13 HOURS iirc. I bet we'll get a Mondstadt chapter soon because with the gateway to Celestia being in Mondstadt, only one person will be able to take us to Celestia and I'm sure this is when we'll see the serious side of Venti aka Barbatos since he especially is weary of Celestia

if I were gonna buff Venti, I would make the ult spawn to where he is; just make him dash back, similar to Mona's hold skill, Give Venti a special Charged Attack like: While aiming, favorable winds will accumulate on the arrowhead before the arrow is fired. Has different effects based on how long the energy has been charged: Charge Level 1: Fires off an wind arrow that deals Anemo DMG. Charge Level 2: Fires off an Echo Arrow that deals AoE Anemo DMG. opponents hit by the Echo arrow will explode dealing additional AoE DMG. then buff his hold skill, making the casting faster, like around the same speed as Zhongli's hold skill and give an extra effect like: When held, Venti Gains the Freeing ballad effect, which will decrease the Echo Arrow's charging time by 70%, grants stagger resistance and allows Venti to attack while gliding. Venti continuously loses stamina while in this state and performing Plunging Attacks will slam Venti to the ground dealing AoE Anemo DMG, give stamina and cancel the effect. Give Venti a unique animation where the glider flaps like wings. His A1 passive is now just in his base kit, and replace it with: Every time Venti hits an opponent with an Echo arrow, reduce the ultimate timer by 5% for every enemy hit, maxing at 60% reduction. my reasoning for the buffs is that 1. make him a quick swap character that is not just one button (but it is still a viable option) 2. 100% uptime (technically) 3. make the Animo resonance synergize with him 4. makes his Constellations make more sense 5. allows the option of DPS 6. And makes him the best character for applying Swirl TLDR: Better placement for ult, reworked skill that allows Venti to shoot while gliding, and special arrows that decrease ult cooldown. He would still be #1 for crowd control but no longer utterly useless with heavy opponents.

That's an interesting take, however I would like to add that whenever you tap his E skill, the animation is no longer delayed, he just instantly applies anemo, also with his burst, we should have an option to whether summon his burst on-location by just tapping or holding the Q to aim the burst. Also, I would like to add, maybe we can add a flying mechanic to Venti, better than Wanderer, it doesn't necessarily needed to be a full-time flying mechanic wherein we just need to tap the skill once and he flies permanently but a mechanic like Furina's wherein there's just a limited amount of time wherein he can fly but the reloading duration of the skill is viable that we can click the skill again before the flying skill wears off, that might enable him to fly permanently. Maybe when he's flying, he will release his wings but at the same time, the wings deteriorate over time which might imply the duration of his flying mechanic. If that's too OP, even for me, instead of having him have a better flying mechanic than Wanderer, maybe Hoyo can improve that when he holds his E, he floats in the air as high as Tenshukaku, and we can even use his skill again while we're gliding but the 14s reloading time still remains. That will give him the edge over Wanderer's vertical flying supremacy.

I got lucky and got Kazuha after not even playing the game for three months (during his rerun in 2022) and yet I STILL pulled for Venti, when he got a rerun, simply because I love our Anemo Archon so much. I think GI really is a game, in which you can pull/build/play any unit you love and you will still be totally fine. One of the reasons why I love this game.

Honestly, would love an end game mode specifically for Venti and all other AOE dps in genshin. It would be just like abyss but this time the time limit is shorter and the number of enemies you kill would give a 3 star rating (0-20 1 star, 21-40 2 stars, and 41-infinity would be 3 stars). This game mode would cater to anemo cc, bloom teams, any aoe dps and freeze teams since it would have the common enemies. The one game I have in mind for reference is Splatoon's Salmon Run.

If a character gets released that can consistently put out the same amount of stagger as Klee's CAs, but in AoE, Venti might become good again. There's too many enemies in this game that don't get picked up by Venti not because they're too heavy, but because they have some amount of interruption resistance. If you have Klee and Venti, I recommend going around overworld and trying out which enemies can be picked up by Venti's burst, you might be surprised

Well if the archons are made the strongest...then the game can't sell other characters. Why use any other anemo character when venti is right there. Rather than make the archons the peak of the elements they make them the peak of a niche associated with the elements. Venti is the best crowd controller and has some movement with his skill. Zhongli is the strongest shield and immobilizes mobs with petrification. Raiden is the nuclear reactor of electro and energizes bursts Nahida is the ultimate dendro applied and enables all of dendros reactions off field and boost the power of reactions over all. Furina is vest at manipulating hp and buffs on either healing or any dmg done. They aren't made to be the strongest of the element but the rather the strongest in the elements niche

An easy buff I think hoyo can give Venti atp is to just release Barbatos as a playble unit. Either implement a way for Venti to switch between "Venti" and "Barbatos" or create a seperate variant since Venti is just a mask Barbatos wears. Even the other archons don't refer to him as Barbatos, they refer to him as Venti unlike Zhongli's "about Morax", Ei's "about Baal" or even Nahida's "about Buer". The other archons will address eachother by their demon names but no one addresses Venti by his.. that's weird. In lore, it was stated he's the original wielder of the Skyward Atlas and the Skyward Atlas' description states only he wields the power of the thousand winds. Barbatos as a playable unit would be a subdps/dps character where he wields his catalyst. (His silhouette is also in the pages of The Lost Prayers of Sacred Winds when it opens up SO MAKE HIM A CATALYST 😭) For his skill, tapping will summon wind spirits or spirits of the thousand winds to do coordinated attacks and holding the button makes him extend out his wings and take flight while simultaneously summoning wind spirits. (He canonically has wings why doesn't he use it 😭) When he bursts he creates a field of anemo that makes it so sword, polearms and claymore users will be able to swirl with each hit. In the field it also heals allies and increase their attack speed OR reduces their cooldowns. (I imagine during his fight with Decarabian he did something similar to the Rebellion since they were a bunch of mortals its weird that they were still able to overpower Decarabian in the end.)

Honestly Zhongli is kinda downrated too. There are just still many players who don't feel confident to run shieldless party or weaker shield than him so his usage rate is still high. Thoma, Layla, Kirara, and Baizhu will act like Kazuha to Venti with their other kits despite they have weaker shield and give their elements aura. You need Geo shield breakers? Noelle is packaged into both Geo and Claymore users to break shield faster than Zhongli. There will be characters you barely will be used but when the situation calls it you will need them or else make the floor harder. 11-1 needs Venti, Geo shield needs Noelle, and Zhongli basically will solve your problem if you keep getting knockback or airbone.

To be fair many things have been overlooked about venti due to it's groupping capabilities. For exemple, one thing that no one really explored is the aggravate potential of his burst. Both electro tics and swirls can be boosted by aggravate, knowing that he can at least get 3 of each each burst it's damage ramps up really really quickly. To give you an idea I did part 1 of abyss 12-1 without a single ventiable ennemy with venti fischl kazuha and tighnari and it was faster than a classic tighnari fischl nahida beidou! To be fair it is true that I have a c6 venti with skyward harp (4 years of being unlucky as f2p btw xD) but his constellations aren't that important anyways. Except maybe C6 for exactly aggravate stuff. And yes I am extremely biased toward venti but playing him really is a skill check when the chambers are non ventiable and it makes the game really enjoyable to the point that I prefer playing non ventiable chambers with venti rather than ventiable ones. @@StrawberryDubs happy to see someone else having fun with this ^^ There's a way to cheat the aura onto the anemo AoE, if you use nahida normally her aura won't allow the electro aura to stay but if you use dori's ult and use kazuha's ult or skill while linked to the lamp his ult will by default become electro! Thus making everything afterward electro infused. Another thing is that if you open with venti and then the electro unit and only afterward the dendro unit venti's ult will by default become electro and if you have a second anemo AoE you can keep circling the infusion! Also note that appart from nahida the dendro applications are spaced enough to allow electro to stay on target

venti is most definitely not a weak character, the problem with venti is that he is too strong and as a result hoyo has to intentionally create content which counters him. venti when he works removes any semblance of difficulty from the game and to this day there really isn't any other character who has that effect.

@@baizhuayaka wasn't the problem, even before Ayaka freeze as a reaction was broken. The most broken team before Ayaka was Morgana which was a Mona/venti/ganyu freeze team. Also a lot of the content which people believe counter freeze is actually just in place to counter venti, it just so happens that all freezable enemies are also ventiable enemies so freeze also just suffered from having Similar favorable matchups to venti.

archons have this prestige of being amazing at what they do, if not the best. they just need to make venti exclusively able to gather all enemies, including the heavy enemies that other groupers can't suck in - and make its duration about as long as zhongli's shield, nahida's mark, raiden's coordinated atk, or furina's summons. a very straightforward but much needed improvement for the anemo archon. and no, venti wont become "too op/broken" with this change I'm suggesting as this will only be a suction effect on heavy enemies, not a hard cc that prevents them from doing anything like on small enemies. heavy enemies would still be able to perform their attacks while in that vacuum so the player would still need to keep in mind that they can still get hit. kairagis are still able to dash or jump out(same goes for the big churls). ruin guards and drakes can still use their ranged attacks. mirror maidens and fatui operatives can still teleport out. elite eremites are still able to use their ranged attacks and summons, etc.

Im a day one player, i never picked Kazuha and im very happy with Venti. Hes VV always works, he still can move even big freezed mobs. He can pull lectors together. And prolonged off field swirls helps even on bosses. He is with me in 70% of abysses.

Who could have predicted that out of all the characters from Mondstadt only 4☆'s would stand the test if time? Bennet, FIschl, Succrose, even Noelle have all remained good and gotten better while the 5☆'s fell off. Shoutout to Diluc who did get a buff eventually. But Raiden is good? Not really. At C0 she can't DPS, a HB trigger Kuki is better and no party will slot her in only for the energy charge. I've seen many argue the reason we never got another CC after Kazuha is that Mihoyo knows if they add more Venti will be even more useless.

Despite him being the first 5 star character, venti's second archon quest hasn't arrived till now... Even though he's quite weak with the arrival of Kazuha, i think he's hiding his true power and motives from all. I think he'd help the primordial one against us but he needs us for something crucial that's why he gave his blessing. You can see this in game also as most of the time when were in lifa and death situation, always Anemo characters are those who save us out of it. That's why i think hoyo isn't giving his second archon quest as he has some bigger plans going on behind us . Better watch out for him.

Venti needs a buff, period. Not because he is not strong, but because he’s the only Archon that doesn’t follow the main rule why Archons are universally useful: passive elemental application with elemental skill, that has longer duration than cooldown. That’s it. Everyone else has it, after him. We can debate about the utility of elemental application of Zhongli, but still he follows the same rule, as any other Archon after him. Immagine a Venti elemental skill that shots Anemo arrows every X second for Y seconds, combined with VV set. He would come back, no matter the damage, just for the immense utility… My 2 cents.

If Venti was released today, his E would have two charges, his Q would be the size of Kazuha Slash while also raising EM. It would also have nearly 100% uptime. So he'd be an EM buffer, VV shredder and crowd control master. You can use him for reactions too because you can basically have 100% uptime with whatever element you've swirled. And to make it extra overpowered, Q would have a holdable version where it travels with the active party member instead of being stationary.

To add on that, when was the last time Hoyo introduced an anemo character with a decently strong CC? To this day, Sucrose, Venti and Kazuha are the only anemo characters able to consistently crowd control enemies. Heizou's and Faruzan's aren't strong enough and they serve as a decent bonus rather than an integral ability. I think Hoyo really doesn't want players to abuse this mechanic anymore. Honestly, it is a braindead easy mechanic to abuse. I used to main this team: Diona for cryo application and EM buff and the shield and heals were nice bonuses, then comes Sucrose, Kazuha and Venti all full EM build but with the VV set. Even with the VV set which is bad in this team, they used to kill everything with button mashing. No dodging, no running nothing. Just spam skill and burst and watch the enemies never hit the ground. It was tons of fun!

Venti is still useful for speeding through floor 9 to 11; sometimes I also use Venti/Rosaria/Ganyu/Sucrose (2x anemo/cryo aoe) for combat events where there's a cryo buff. Zhongli is kinda bad to play imo, he puts a pillar that gets in the way, and his cast time takes too long that the mobs get free hits, teleport away (the new anemo/bond_of_life fatui agent), shield up (remember the cryo cicin mage? also husks), or freeze/slow you (cryo/hydro primo_geovishap/abyss_heralds). I've been a Zhongli main since his first banner (f2p), and every abyss starting from 3years ago was barely squeezing by for 36stars. If it wasn't for hyperbloom and some Furina investment to bring back vaporize, I would've fallen off. I could even see Kazuha national falling off (in general) from it's subpar performance in the Saurian Shaped Search event (national can't get plat at all, but it was so easy for Neuvillette/Arlecchino(c0) hyper that literally everyone was doing it with 20-30sec to spare).

for me venti is bad because of the height of his vortex is too high. it makes melee difficult to damage sucked up enemies. even though new enemies wont get suck up but they do get suck in ,makes it ok. if hoyo adjust the vortex height it makes him consistent for melee main dps team cop but not op which is good for new end game content that is not specific to a mechanic and play style

Pretty much all the Mondstadt characters kits are bad. They all have a major downside. Ex, Klee is super powerful, but squishy. Albedo is an amazing but his flower doesn't land on every surface, Mika released much later but his kit supports physical which is a useless reaction in the game so far.

Heck even made my list of "Characters I won't pull." - But then I got to play a certain team on a friend's account. Arlecchino, Albedo, Ganyu, Venti. (Albedo because the Whimsy domain needs Geo, and he had that team on, and I just used that team), and boy oh boy even though Venti isn't really good in that domain, I really started appreciating Burst DPS Ganyu and Venti with Arlecchino. I might pull Venti during the 5.0 archon rerun spree if the other character isn't too compelling.

I feel like Venti's situation right now is really accurate! In lore, he lets the people do whatever they want and only steps in when his help is needed which strongly reflects how he's 0-100! He either doesn't help much and let the people have freedom or be a really strong protector! I'm a Venti main and though it sucks to have him like this, I'm actually quite happy that this is his situation as a playable character.

yea you could argue that each archon powers reflects on their story. While Ei is everything in her region (She rules everything and has absolute power, and her people need her) it reflects on her being flexible to her team needs. Zhongli is the protector of liyue and can calm down both adeptus/gods and humans even in dire situations, reflecting his shield and ult synergizing with the team. Nahida is self-explanatory and Furina is not an archon nor is neuvi

Venti reminds me so much of herta Powerful beings that are so subpar in gameplay but lives up to their titles in 1 niche. we need an endgame mode where venti can shine like what they did with herta and purefiction
