So, I'm hearing what I think is mostly domestic aircraft, save for maybe the American Eagle one? Do they have a different ground frequency and controller for their international flights?
@billsalton86606 жыл бұрын
Pearson is North Ground 121.65, South Ground 121.90. When busy they generally have both frequencies active and aircraft get transferred between them depending on their taxi route. Pretty sure when things are quite it's one frequency, could be wrong. Apart from United at T1, AA and DL regionals go from T3 at the north end and often depart on the south runway as they are going directly south so they will go through both frequencies generally except for the odd time.

@peterharris31816 жыл бұрын
Oh fuck off. It's an American channel, not the BBC. Your "correction" is just wrong. American and British English are distinct dialects with some different spellings. There's nothing wrong or incorrect about an American/Canadian person/organization spelling it "favorite" or "color" or going to the ER instead of A and E or using a sidewalk instead of a pavement. It's just small differences in dialect and the holier than thou "we invented words" is ridiculous.

Don't give it to the dog anymore, eh?, cause he barked about it givin' him a headache like that Carling crap use-to." **Traveling to the supermarket, in the quest for "back bacon" (peameal bacon) is marginally acceptable, and only if that store accepts "Canadian Tire Bucks™". **Trips to Tim Horton's count only if both coffee AND Timbits™ are purchased, and no less than 50% of the amount purchased - actually makes it home. Meh, it's probably easier to just fire off a mistaken subtitle than it is to proof. The audio is spot on, and if you can't tell the difference between Labrador and Alberta, then it probably doesn't matter. And if you CAN tell the difference, then it probably doesn't matter either.

Can someone explain how the ground commands work? I've been trying to get a tutorial but nobody has a good source. Just want to know how to understand taxi commands. I get confused between taxiway letters and stops.
@HeidiKohne6 жыл бұрын
Basically, every letter of the alphabet has a word attached to it to prevent confusion with similar-sounding letters, eg B, C, D, E, G. You can do a Google search for aviation alphabet to see these words, and they are the same worldwide. Taxiways at virtually every airport are labelled with a letter (or 2 if it's a huge airport like Kennedy or Atlanta), and these are specified in the radio chatter with those words. So, Tower can instruct a plane to leave the gate by taxiing on taxiway Bravo (B), turning right on Golf (G), and holding short of November (N) [I've made up the route, don't try to look it up with Toronto's map]. By holding short, the plane is then allowing other planes to use November to taxi to their own destination without having a collision.
@HeidiKohne6 жыл бұрын
Because Toronto has de-icing stations, that's adding to the confusion here as they are also referring to Ice-1, which many airports don't have, such as Miami. So, a bit of the chatter we're hearing is involving planes having to stop at a de-icing station as they're going from the gate to the runway.
@HeidiKohne6 жыл бұрын
Other parts of the radio chatter we hear will be from the tower giving air pressure & wind speads and other information needed for landing and taking off. Because we're hearing Ground, then this recording will be applicable just for departing planes. After the plane has finished de-icing, Tower will send the plane along taxiways to the runway ("go on November, right on Hotel, hold short of 13Left.") That 13L(eft) is a runway, as used in one particular direction; the opposite direction of that same runway is 31R(ight).
@HeidiKohne6 жыл бұрын
And one last bit of information we hear here are when the Tower is telling pilots to change frequencies for different activities. Ground (which we're hearing) is responsible for pretty much just the maneuvering of planes between the runway and the gate. Those entering de-icing apparently have to change to the frequency used by those crews. Also, planes approaching a runway to takeoff or approaching a runway in the air to land have to use a frequency just for the low air space. There is a different set of frequencies used by planes once they're in the air for the duration of the flight. All these frequencies start with 1 and are typically three digits, decimal, and 1-3 digits afterwards (eg 121.7).I hope this helps! It's a lot to take in, and fortunately VAS gives us the text on the screen that definitely helps us learn the language.
@netpilot56 жыл бұрын
Heidi Kohne Nice summary. Is it true that runways are named for the first two digits of its compass heading, followed by L and R if there are two parallel ones (which is why the two ends of a runway are named 18 apart)? Also, can you confirm that there is always a mandatory implied hold before crossing any runway (whether GND mentions it or not)?
