He kept his composure, sounded like he wanted to give the southwest an immediate take off clearance, but when Key Lime crossed the threshold, he quickly interrupted himself, resolved the situation without any rudness, or anger, he kept the planes rolling, ones the Delta was gone, he just told them to continue crossing, so he could quickly resume his takeoffs, and he didn't waste any time acting out anger. Basically he just did his job. And only once the situation was resolved the Key Lime got their number. No unnecessary radio transmissions from either side, just handled extremely professionally.

From the perspective of a pilot...I flew into LAX yesterday for the first time in a while and noticed the new taxiways to cross 24L(last time I was there, some were not usable). On the landing rollout we got the go ahead from ATC to cross 24L and noticed how short of a distance it is to slow down a 140,000 pound jet with MOMENTUM and stop on those taxiways. There isn’t a lot of distance compared to most other airports with high-speed exits, and I think that may have bitten the Key Lime crew even though their landing weight was a lot less.
@58icarus16 сағат бұрын
Curious you would say that for landing on an outboard parallel with most exits leading to a runway crossing of the nearby inboard. Your expectation should be to stop and hold short, barring any crossing clearance received prior to exiting, and to plan your turnoff accordingly.
@mcjetdriver749914 сағат бұрын
@@58icarus You are spot on. The point I was trying to illustrate is the distance from crossing the hold short line(after exiting 24R) and the hold short line of 24L is not as far as you would think. Most high-speed exits you can exit and continue to decelerate because there is room for it. A couple of these exits are new and have only been usable since this past Summer.

Question from an outsider: Is there an in-cabin protocol between the two pilots to make sure the pilot flying has the correct instruction on his mind as well? Or is it just assumed that the pilot flying should fully understand whatever was said and acknowledged by the pilot monitoring? Incursion aircraft crew sounded either fatigued or apathetic or both. Safety very much losing out to operational resilience and profit atm. Culture prefixes a biggie traditionally. Lets hope tenerife doesnt happen again because of it.

The dreaded “phone number to call”. Ouch

Some of these comments. Good grief. The Venn Diagram of dudes mad that women work in certain fields, and men that complain when women won't work in certain fields is a single circle.

Oh yeah, that happens on any video where you hear a woman on the radio. (nevermind that it means they might not be the pilot flying) Without fail some mouthbreather will be rattling on about it in the comments.

You should have seen the comments on KZbin regarding the Alaska Airlines door plug blowout, my word. Both of the cockpit crew were women, and they handled it like champs. Meanwhile, the vitriol about DEI, misogeny, etc. was off the charts.

At this point the days with close calls are the good ones.

It did not even look close, and the pilot acknowledged to stop short of the runway.

It looked really close indeed

Definitely appears to have passed the hold short lines, judging on the red flashing runway sign. Controller was on the ball though as soon as the plane passed it, welcoming to see that.

That was really cool with the video lined up to audio, well done Did KeyLime cross the hold short bars? So if ATC wasn’t watching KeyLime they would have missed it? I didn’t know ATC had to visually watch aircraft on the tarmac. That’s a lot to juggle
@JDrapic3 күн бұрын
I believe the hold short bars have sensors on them, so the front gear touching would have triggered an alert. It's very possible that the pilots just misjudged where the bar is and would have still remained clear of the runway, but much better to make that "stop" call than be sorry you didn't.

According to the video (although not perfect angle to determine) it really looks like at least half their plan was past the line

Can you please look at into the smoke on a swiss flight December 23th in Graz, Austria. One stewardess died from the smoke now.
@jckkl4350Күн бұрын
That’s probably a crew used to exiting 24L (the inboard to the taxi back) vs 24R (the outboard where you’ve got a runway between you and the taxi back). Expectation bias is a real threat. Just a WAG. Excellent SA by tower. If this controller is indeed retiring soon, that’s a loss for sure.
@side-fishКүн бұрын
As much as they’re saying it’s a near collision, from the video, it doesn’t even look that close. The delta plane had already gained a lot of altitude before the keylime plane could cross the runway. I think they just classify it as a close encounter because the runway was still in use but there wasn’t really a danger of them colliding, at least from the video.

Sorry, but I don't think I could be an ATC controller because I'd immediately break out the desk whiskey after that incident. Don't know how that guy kept his demeanor after that
