I must try this. It looks like fun. When collecting board games sometimes you forget that these older, more traditional games, can still be very entertaining. Thanks for the review!

Recently bought this game in India (Funskool still makes them). What a fun game. Played it with 4 of my friends and we had so much fun, especially the detectives making strategies to catch Mr.X, and Mr.X trying everything he can to get out of the trap! Highly recommended
@leizdutra9377 Жыл бұрын
This is completely different from the Scotland Yard we have in Brasil, here in the version I got there's no Mr X, and there are 120 mistery cases to be solved by collecting hints, riddles and informations that are revealed to those who enter the buildings in the board.

The juxtaposition of Ruby being engaged in the conversation and Violet looking like she's done is adorable; it is the perfect illustration of the difference between a 13 year-old and an 11 year-old. It's also really interesting to see what kids today think of games from yesterday. Great review, y'all!

Violet really looks like she doesn't want to be doing these videos.
@thedicetower3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, that's not true. I never make the kids do a video they don't want to (thus why you haven't seen Amy much). That's just Violet's default expression. She takes everything, including gaming, very seriously. :)

That's what my copy looks like. I know they have updated the art, box and map, but I bought mine in the 80's. We still play Scotland Yard a couple of times a year.

I got this game a few years ago when my daughter was 7. We still play it as a family. It's a great combination of a co-op game and a vs game with some good options for house rules if needed. I live in the UK and I'm surprised this wasn't re-developed for the US market and set in NY or another US city.

Does the Dice Tower ever make videos comparing well-known games that fall in a specific genre? Like I would love to know how this one compares to the newer Specter Ops

This game is very fun. This is my favorite non-traditional board game ever. Can't Stop, Clue, and Stop Thief! also come to mind.

This is hitting my nostalgia nerves. I played this with my social worker when I was in foster care as a kid. I now own a copy and will gladly teach my daughters when they’re older. Thanks for sharing!

I love me some whitechapel and dracula but in terms of getting the whole family the speed (playtime wise) means Scotland yard can rarely be beat. I gotta remember to let everyone have fun.

Looks just like the copy I have. I picked it up at a Garage Sale probably when I was around 13 in the late 90's. I remember enjoying playing it back then, unfortunately haven't played it since. I don't know anybody who really likes board games sadly.

One of my all-time favorites... at least from the great memories anyhow. We used to play this every New Year's Eve with a group friends 30 years ago or so. I don't have this game, but I do own Whitehall Mystery which is basdally the same and gives me the same thrill.

@terjethornqvist43613 жыл бұрын
I think this is the quintessential hidden movement game and most other games of the genre today tend to limit the board and add additional complications. While some people may prefer the more complex "versions" I still think this game has something they lack, it's extremely clean, easy to teach, play relatively fast and works great as a party style game.

The German original that we had had different figures, they also were transparent though. Other slight differences in the editions. There is a newer pocket version of this, but I think it can't live up to the predecessor. Don't think I'd still have a lot of fun playing this game today....

This game is SO much fun! Sadly, I can't get anyone to play it with me anymore. I agree with the player count - with more brains on the chasing end, there's more disagreement on where to go! I think this game scales really well though, although I will say that only 3 people chasing Mr. X is a little hard sometimes - MUCH less room for error

Tom: "Scotland Yard is like the FBI in England." Errr, no! Scotland Yard over here would never make a cool Hollywood movie with car chases, shootouts, and violence. Our version would involve investigating Twitter hate crimes, kneeling down in front of a raging mob, and forming a ring of steel around a boat parked in the middle of Oxford Circus!!
