The thing I love about these two brothers is that they are physically polar opposites. Vash’s body is littered with scars he got over the centuries because he has no problem taking the hits if it means nobody dies, while Knives’ body is pristine; no blemishes, scars, everything is where it should be, and he wants nothing less then EVERYBODY DEAD on the planet. He sees himself as a God among insects, but the dude doesn’t have his brother’s tolerance for pain. One shot anywhere on his perfect body, and he cries like a little boy scraping his knee.
@jamesbernards84092 жыл бұрын
That and his aim gets thrown off entirely. His whole modus operandi is to operate at extreme levels of perfection, even if it means wiping all the "scum" away. Along the lines of what you are saying, Vash really does learn how to survive while living amongst the deadly storm we call humanity because he chooses to love.

@rainbowdash48982 жыл бұрын
@@liammccbyrne4184 true. The first time Vash had his Angel Arm turned on by Knives, he fired the thing directly at him destroying the city as well as Knives’ bottom half. For the rest of that time, he was recovering in a pod similar to the plants that provide each city of GUNSMOKE with much needed power. It was only until very recent in their current time that he was finally able to step out fully healed, I think. Point is that Vash should be able to make the same full recovery like Knives did if he had the time and resources, but since he chose to live among the people he wouldn’t have any of that.

Very true. Vash has also spent decades living Amongst humans and getting to know them, so he has a right to talk about them, their strengths and weaknesses. You can do intense gun battles without gimmicks such that this fight uses, but it requires a focus on environmental effects (shrapnel, deformation of land and vegetation), on equipment interactions, and on setting the scene (establishing relative positions over distances). All that is more than most studios are willing / able to manage. Most fantasy battles involve two people waving a prop around, or one person dancing with a special effect overlaid. Simpler technique to pull off.

This show has some of the best, most psychologically destroying, soul ripping narrative dissonance and raw ass lines I've ever heard in media- "of course it's heavy, it's full of mercy" said with the surface level smiles of a carefree life, the multi layered filler fights of not just opposing forces or ideals but whole towns and power struggles within power struggles, the animalistic portrayals of human will, and literally the opening lines and scenes to this fight, after we've been through hours of vash being blamed, feared, and reviled by the people he's so desperately trying to protect, lying to his brother, who caused him his social status, to his face, knowing full well that knives knows better. The last three hours of this show was just escalating gut punches until you collapse and God if it isn't my favorite thing ever

The shot that vash fires into knives is the 6th chamber after 5 trigger pulls ony empty chambers (and you can count them) which means it has to hit on the 6th and they both know it in that slow motion scene. Two giant fuck off fusion guns that need to charge up. Vash got lucky. And about Vash's training. Half the things that happened to Vash was his own fault. Knives took advantage of his superior nature. He didn't need to go throuh situations with restraint or not abusing his power. And he was more or less equal to Vash in terms of skill. I love that both of their faces show full concentration or anger or even superiority all the time, but never look relaxed during the fight. Many modern anime want to show off their protagonists as overly cool all the time and let them act smug even during dangerous situations but here you can feel the tension.

For all the wrong people have done him, he's also watched innocent sweet perfect children grow up to be beautiful lovely women and strong brotherly comrades. He's also seen these innocent children be twisted into monsters; he's also seen these monsters break down and redeem themselves in their dying moments. Imagine loving someone like a child, then seeing them as a lover or a brother, and then watching them grow old or die violently, over and over again. It should make anyone's heart heavy with mercy.

It's crazy to see this. I first got into trigun by reading it coincidentally, then I found out it had an anime. I had only read a few chapters at that point, so I decided to watch the episodes that would likely correlate to them. I watched them and super loved it, but I noticed that there were some things different than I had remembered them to be. So I stopped watching the series after some episodes (a little after he meets wolfwood), and went back to reading. I finished it all, and watched the new movie, I've just only seen this ending right now. Trigun is so cool man. Even though the end is different due to lack of material from Yasuhiro Nightow at the time of its creation, the it's still so cool anyways. Thank you for uploading this. Love & Peace!!

@apenasumdoteiro10702 жыл бұрын
@@hariman7727 By the end of the Manga, Vash saves knives and disappears with him (since the whole world is chasing knives and vash is wanted), so, he saves his brother, goes into the desert and a humble man and his son find both vash and knives. Knives recovers faster than his brother, then with all his "plant powers" left, he makes a tree grow in their garden (remember that it was a desert), a tree with apples that will keep them fed up, and then knives asks the man's son to take care of his little brother. Now, this act not only shows that knives gets what vash meant, because vash is a plant, so he wouldn't die, that tree was for the man and his son, not only he learns what vash meant all the way, but ceases to bother him any longer. Probably plants have some "space-time" where they all reside, and sometimes they come to real world in physical forms, probably knives went to that place. What makes me think so, is that plants can summon the "creatures who live out of space and time", like vash did once trying to heal the seeds ship. So yeah, the manga is quite nice to see, in the end vash saves his brother and starts working with meryl i guess.

@@dlericx1876 Not…really. Meryl’s already here. They have some of the events I remember from (briefly) trying to read the manga + what ‘98 did, but portraying them differently-which would be FINE!! IF Vash felt like Vash, Meryl felt like Meryl, and they hadn’t removed Millie entirely in favor of Roberto which /also/ changes Meryl’s characterization as she’s now a Junior vs having an established career (and in that sweet spot of getting the challenging jobs that juniors wouldn’t but seniors would have zero interest in.)

It shows his character development at Vashs peak though. The man who wouldn’t hurt a fly is shooting his twin brother immediately. As a twin this is crazy and beyond belief. I know that sounds horrible and out of context, but this Jesus like figure realized how important life truly is and it’s not a sin to defend life. That’s what Vash finally figured out. Yes he’s a pacifist and doesn’t like to fight, but he realized how truly important it is to defend life from vileness. I 100 percent respect the creator and Vash as a character. Well done.

This whole fight is peak gun vs gun anime action. They don't do clever battles like this anymore. For example, at the 2min mark when they are trying to shoot each other but they grab the cyclinder of their revolvers to stop it from ultimately firing. You don't see small details like this in gun fights anymore, it's usually just bang bang you're dead.

The revolvers that Vash and Knives use show the bullets in the chamber to anyone in front of them, as is seen later in the fight when Vash finally fires his one bullet. So Vash can see clearly that Knives' next trigger pull WILL be a live round. Thus, As soon as Knives' started to pull the trigger, Vash pushed the gun away and tried to move out of the way, but couldn't get enough distance to get completely out of the way. Mainly because Knives is about as fast as Vash.

subtly interesting part of this, is that when both lf their guns get knocked away, the camera shows that vash's gun is still connected to him by wire. even though he could bring it back to himself easily he runs back to his just like knives. i think shows that even in their last fight he wants an excuse not to kill knives. the scene happens around 1:14
