Big thanks for all the VASL serie. I have this irrepressible urge to play back ASL (used to play a lot in the 90s), so VASL is the perfect solution for where I live (south of France). But not very easy to get into the application and start games. Really a great job, thank you from the ASL community

Great series of videos! Quick question please (non-VASL related). What is the name of the resource monitor that you are using? I really like the subtle, yet useful display of CPU, memory etc. that you have across the top of the screen. Thanks!

Hi, thanks! It's called Rainmeter (just google it and the main site plus some skin sites will come back). It's way to re-skin your desktop in any way possible. Some people go crazy, I keep mine simple.

Thanks! Nice video tutorial! How do you get the text and boxes beside the map (e.g., about Casualty, Victory points, Special Rules etc.)? Have you made them yourself? Which Extensions do you use? Is it information that comes with a loaded scenario?

Not sure I understand the question. If you're more specific I can probably help. "Module" here refers to the VASL module, but you might be referring to something else. Also not sure what you mean by "file". This video shows you how to install the Vassal engine (that runs Modules), then how to install the VASL (Virtual Advanced Squad Leader) module that runs within Vassal.

I'm not really sure. Vassal runs on Java. I'm not sure if Java is available for (or will run on) an iPad. There is a macOS version. Will that run on an iPad?

That’s on today’s to-do list. Otherwise might have to grab the work computer and break a rule or two ha. Love the channel. I am in education and the way you lay out the videos is very effective. Gamers here in Australia generally keep away from the “bogeyman” that is ASL. I’m looking forward to this journey. I can’t find sadly Starter Sets 2,3,4 that are reasonably priced. Digital versions so far are non-existent. Would it be ok if I just head straight to the full rule book from Starter Set 1? Thanks to you I found that digitally.

I did a little teaching during graduate school, and I did a lot of presentations during my career. 😁Yes, if you are comfortable with the ASL mechanics in SK1, you should be able to go into full ASL. Alternatively, the full Starter Kit rulebook is downloadable from MMP. It incluces SK 1-4. Then if you can get Vassal/VASL working you could use it to delve into Guns/Vehicles more before jumping into full ASL.

I write here that this video is Windows-centric, because no where was it mentioned. I use a Mac. The installation might be similar, but its been so long that I do not remember the details. I would need to walk through it again to know.

You can always get the latest version of VASL at vasl(dot)info. Current version is 6.6.6

I appreciate your effort and time, but it would have been better had you had an outline or something before you started the tutorial. I think this would have been more helpful had you gone straight through the process instead of bouncing around in the different pages. Going from loading VASSAL to looking at modules, then back to VASSAL, etc was confusing and irritating. I don’t mean any disrespect. But I’ve been trying to set up VASL for some time and haven’t been able to find a tutorial that simply shows you how to do it. I’m still trying to download the game. Thanks.

PSA: VASL6.5.1 and VASL6.5.0 will NOT work with VASSAL3.3.2. You MUST use VASSAL3.2.17

vassal is on 3.6 right now(and vasl on 6.6.4) ,is this still true? edit, checked the website, "VASL 6.6.4 works with Vassal 3.6.6" yaay!.
