MagnetoSpeed vs Standard Chronograph, benefits of buying the Magnetospseed and the ease of using it. This is a very cool chronograph that every shooter should own in my opinion. It's very versatile and slips right in to your pack so you can confirm bullet speed out on the hunt.
Here is a link to the Magnetospeed if your interested. www.amazon.com...

I like the Magnetospeed for several reasons:, less bulk, less setup, less errors, not affected by ambient light, etc... But I believe the Magnetospeed does (or can) impact barrel harmonics to a slight degree. You can still do your load development but measuring groups with it strapped on could have an added variable. I can say that it doesnt seem to impact my shot groups on my 1" bull barrel in any noticeable way. And I have tested it a lot! I love the Magnetospeed and do recommend it. Thanks, Curt. Sorry to come to the party 5 years late again🤣

I think the very small difference it's because the MagnetoSpeed is really at the muzzle, but the standard chronograph is not at the same distance. Excellent videos as always. Thanks from France.

Great video but you left one of the biggest drawbacks of a Prochrono and why I ordered a Magnetospeed. I hit the range after work and my ProChroo starts to miss shots as the sun goes down. Same thing can be said early mornings the ProChrono can miss shots early morning. Optimal lighting has to be available for the ProChrono to work. This is no longer an issue with the Magnetospeed.

Appreciate the comparison as I'm currently shopping... Leaning toward the traditional/Caldwell as I imagine the Magneto speed wouldn't work with handguns in most, if not all cases. May also be difficult to attach to some of my Mil-surp rifles.

You also can't sight in with the magneto speed attached. It changes the trajectory because it's hanging on the barrel.

😊great video, thanks. Just bought MagnetoSpeed after having Caldwell unit. Way too many errors with Caldwell, even intense sunlight even with shades on will cause error. When your in load development stage, your speed is vital and getting error messages slows the process. Yet to use MagnetoSpeed so your how to video was very timely.

It’s like vital signs…we don’t treat by a pts vitals, we treat by the pt. So I’d have to agree with you, although your POI shouldn’t matter, you can get the same data shooting into a bucket. But, yeah, get your mix, your group, prove to yourself it’s effective, and then take the numbers. The only reason I’m getting one of these is to tune my air rifles too, so I’m not wasting air, energy, by ramping up hammer strike and air pressure to a wasteful point. Otherwise…after that’s determined, I only need to set DOPE in my Strelok App.

That Caldwell is matching that Magnetospeed exactly. I'm guessing the Caldwell is 9 feet out and according to Caldwells software it should be 5-6 FPS slower and thats exactly what your getting! I paid $80 dollars for the Caldwell and the Magnetospeed is $180. Now you do get instant data on the Caldwell on your cell phone at your bench. Like you said you just can't get it if the Range is hot. Also as you said the rain and snow messes up the Caldwell and not the Magnetospeed. The other point is the Magnetospeed is much easier to set up. The biggest down fall I see to the Magnetospeed other than the price is I have to believe the Magnetospeed changes Barrel harmonics and the Caldwell does not. As always a very well done and informative Video and comparison! I am so happy to see I can very much rely on my Caldwell thanks to YOU!

I've done some testing on my rifle with the magneto because I had the same thought. I do see a slight change in point of impact but my Satterlee tests don't show any change. The nodes and antinodes stay in the same ranges with or without the magneto on. Loads that group will group either way.

Sadly here in Oz price gouging is a way of life..... I have the Caldwell kit same as you, the Magnetospeed was at least double the price unfortunately...... But I still enjoy the Caldwell. I use Caldwell's iphone app to store the data and move it to the desktop for processing in a spreadsheet. The range I use for testing is shared with people who basically couldn't care less and will stop and make safe at any time if someone needs to move forward, great bunch of blokes and this privilege has never been abused. We try and allow for range closure every 15 minutes or so during practice so shooters can go and visually check/measure their groups. Not set in concrete, and some days no closures for an hour or more. Everybody knows one another, good mates and we generally know prior to commencement what the day will involve. Cheers Kurt, have a great day 🇦🇺 🍺🍺

I've heard the Magneto can change the point of impact, so if you're using it for more than just ballistic speed then it may cause problems.Why can't the Caldwell be used at closer range, such as literally several inches from the barrel. Good videos on the sporter. I just ordered one from Midway USA for $168.00 shipped. I have been kicking around getting a chrony for 3-4 years now for load development, but I couldn’t justify the canopy type optical units for the range I shoot at (the unit out front on a hot line) because of what you mentioned, and the pistol range only allows 1-2 shooters at a time, and that gets to be a hassle. I know this wont work with semi autos, so no loss with it at my range. I would like to see or maybe make a mount for a pistol with no rail (1911’s). Thanx for the info and your personal observations. 🔫

The caldwell chronograph seems much more useful than the magneto system. I wonder how you get readings from a bow or crossbow? Does it work with airsoft and paintball guns? How about darts from a blowgun? Or anything that isn't a gun barrel? How does it work on your semiauto pistol?
@magnumcipher4971
@magnumcipher4971 2 жыл бұрын
It’s more useful because you can measure the speed of toys? The intended purpose of this thing is for a reloader to obtain data points so to create precision ammunition for the rifle it’s shot from. Each rifle is built with slight differences in tolerances and measurements, therefor each rifle will have a load that performs better than the rest. The Magnetospeed offers a more reliable way to obtain this data. A hand loader, reloading for a semi-automatic handgun doesn’t really have to know these measurements to produce quality loads. Quantity is usually the motivation for a semiautomatic pistol guy, not precision.
@delbuxton2092
@delbuxton2092 2 жыл бұрын
It's less useful and limited to the one gun it is on. So you believe bows and crossbows are toys? The chronograph is usable on a wide variety of weapons.

I recently heard that the sporter model plastic clamp can be thrown away and replaced with the Aluminum version that was originally put on the V1 & V2 models... It's supposed to resolve the slipping problem (having to retighten after every 2-3 shots)... Do you happen to know if that's correct or have you made that change to your sporter? I'm going to be investing in one of the magnetospeeds, but I don't really need anything more than the sporter version... However, I don't want to have to deal with the bayonet sliding all over the place.Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you end up returning the magnetospeed ? I think I heard you you want it to return it to brownells if I'm not mistaken, I been thinking on getting the V3 but man is around 400 dlls, I'm still deciding on maybe getting the sporter or the V3

Vaughn Precision in your opinion, you think I should go with the v3 or the sporter ? I heard a lot of people saying the strap comes loose and you have hard times dealing with it.

Mark Hernandez you do need to keep an eye on the strap, but if your aware of that it's no big deal. I like them both, the V3 is better and I'll be ordering one soon. But I'm also very happy with the sporter model

Vaughn Precision thank you for the info, I guess I'll go with the V3 since the display is more friendly and also you have more options for different barrels sizes

This guy is a little bit biased. The Gen 2 Caldwell has a Bluetooth connection to your phone. So, it's app measures & stores data on strings of shots. The biggest difference is PRICE, with the MagnetoSpeed clocking in over twice the cost of a traditional high-end chronograph! Also, you're NOT going to be timing any pistol shots with that MS muzzle device. That said, you might not accidentally shoot your down-range chrono. Bottom line: A traditional chrono is far more versatile at a lower cost, and can be used on anything from bows & crossbows to pistols & rifles. Check out the G2 Caldwell folks.

This is a rifle precision channel. We're not here for bows.

do you see any point of impact change between having the magneto speed on and off of the barrel?
@vaughnprecision
@vaughnprecision 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, if your shooting for groups don’t use the magneto.! It will cause a POI shift

@@vaughnprecision thinking of this and the Labradar, sometimes putting out my prochrono is a pain. I would think that checking speeds and groups at the same time would be better? no? maybe I don't shoot enough to not do that....

@@vaughnprecision thanks for the responses, an outfitter friend of mine planted a bug about the 243AI and your videos were the first thing that popped up. I was a bid nervous too when you popped that first factory load in your AI. though I found your page late, i am glad to see you back at it

The problem with the magnetospeed is it has to be close to the bullet flight. I have a heavy barrel 1.25 no taper and it doesn't read. Just error after error.

Works fine on a couple different rigs of mine with barrels measuring just over an inch at the muzzle. A blank measuring 1.250” at the muzzle won’t be an issue for very many folks. If you reload for precision rifles, and do a lot of it, you likely already own both a Magnetospeed and a conventional chronograph. Super data nerds will have a LabRadar in the mix as well!

Thanks for the comparison! Reading about Magneto customer service on Amazon reviews not very inspiring. Looking to purchase Sporter model, anybody here have any problems with after sale problems? Thank you in advance.
