Just for possible help! Pay close attention to "subtracting vector - vector" This value can not be a negative number so when Matt says "subtract or minus" make sure this is actually a positive number. Trying to subtract a negative number looks like this - -200 doesn't make sense. Ensure that these values are positive numbers meaning no minus sign in front and you should be vaulting your way to part 2! Hope this helps

Has good as this tutorial is, I would love to have an explanation on what all the values we put in are so we easily can modify it to our needs and decide for ourselfes which values to keep private and which to set to public and so forth... Not really a tutorial, more of an instruction-video; "do this; do that and it will work, but you have to figure out why by yourself"... ;)

Anyone trying to use this feature in UE5.2 what you need to do to get it working is: 1: retarget anims to ue4>ue5. 2: set enable root motion on each clip. 3: then last and most important, change -200/-300 in the subtract node to just 200/300 as the node does the minus automatically. 4: if using metahuman player go to player anim blueprint go to control rig node in root anim graph and set control rig class to "FKControlRig" as there is no footIK on metahuman.

*UPDATE* I think unreal engine's most recent updates changed it so that a line tract exiting an object no longer triggers a hit, neither does starting inside one. In other words, everyone's code is just stalling after the second line trace because it's never going to hit anything unless you have a second wall immediately above the first. ------------------------------------------------------ I really appreciate you showing us how to do this. It would've be nice if we got more explanation since I searched this video because I don't understand a lot of these nodes or logic just yet. Great video though!

Okay. It's all base math, just lots of examples of it at once. Red is true or false. Yellow is numbers determined by actions and Green. Green is gold Floats/Real values are numbers you set yourself that you can always bank on. There's way more than just that but for early days, that's how I got my head around every. Trust your Floats, hell, in UE5p1 this doesn't work, yet another thing floats will end up solving for me. Or just watch the 20 minute videos and try doing it from memory, you'll realise how much nonsense some tutorials have in regards to extra boxes of fluff for view time and presentation. Vpoly is terrible for it... Everything is simple but there's simpler and better ways to do most of his fps BP stuff... Matt just needs to update videos as he's not so Bad on the "here's 10 boxes designed to laugh at you when you press "jump"

UPDATE: It does work, I just didn't know that the vector - vector and vector * vector had become Multiply, Add, Subtract etc and once created you can split struct does not work for 5.3.2 vector * float and similar operations aren't there :(

Hey, this video is really good. I mean, it's something that is required for a video game. But I didn't most of the part. Like creating these variables, why adding floats to some of the rotator components, like that. If you could do an explanation video on this, it would be really helpful cause vaulting and climbing is something we see in most AAA games :)

Matt Aspland I have to get practicing then I’ve only been looking at 3D modeling/game design for a 2-3 months and there’s so much to learn it’s definitely different than other subjects. I went to vocational high school for computer networking and hardware so I’m comfortable with that side but I should’ve learned a C language. The Gameplay ability system is just an interesting topic to me . If you need a video idea I can think of something for sure :)

A little late, but i resolved the issue of going too far once vaulting over something: my issue was the flying speed in the character movement details. My movement speed is slowed (set to 150 - similar to horror engine), but if you match the two speeds (reduce the flying move, it should stop your character from FLYING too far in the time period of the animation ending and the movement mode is restored back to walking. Hopefully this helped someone else!

For 3:53 - 5:33, "Wall Normal" wouldn't work for me in UE 5.1, I had to get rid of the "Wall Normal" completely and use "Get Actor Forward Vector" for the multiplication node and "Wall Location" after that for the added node instead.

Maybe you can try adding a Collision Box (I think that's how it's called) to the object you want to vault. I think Matt has a tutorial about automatic doors. Hopefully, you would only need to change the Event blueprint for a Start Overlap

Animation length 1.126 is not compatible with import frame-rate 30 fps (sub frame 0.767), animation has to be frame-border aligned. Either re-export animation or enable snap to closest frame boundary import option. ???

Hey, thank you :D And of course, to increase the speed you would open the animation and increase the rate speed, 1 being normal speed. It should be right at the top. Just make sure to keep all the delays in time with this, although if the delay uses the length of the animation montage you'll be fine. Hope this helps :D

Hey, okay no worries, if you ar using a custom character and animations, some values may be slightly off if the size of your player is different, you may need to just mess about with some. But more importantly check this first, if you open up your animation montages, making sure root motion is enabled, do they work there too or still look odd. Also, does your character have a root bone. Check by opening its skeleton and seeing if at the top of the skeleton tree it has "Root". Hope this helps :)

Ok, the Animation is looking weird if I tick "EnableRootMotion", its doing the animation but it kinda stays at the same Position and is not moving forward...and as far as I can see my character doesnt have a root bone

Okay, so root motion does exactly that, it forces the animation to stay in place which means it won't move away from the player. Is it glitchy or still looking good? If it looks good, I'd say enable root motion in all of your animations, delete the anim montages, and re-make them the same way, just so it updates with root motion enabled. Then put the montages back in the code and try again. Hope this works for you :)

Don't worry about it, you're not wasting my time at all. If the animations look bad, you could try either creating a root bone for your character, there should be tutorials as it's tricky to explain here lol. Or try some new animations.

Hey I have an issue, I’m using the ue4 mannequin and a really good anim set, the OpenWorldAnimSet to be exact and every time I vault my characters feet go through the ground then glitch back up above the ground like it should be, do you have any ideas on what could cause this? Thanks!

Hey, you could fix that by changing the timing in a delay. Where you have your code for vaulting, the delay right after it plays the anim montage for "MQ_Vault_RM". You can change that to whatever you like. I found previously that 0.9 is good, but you can mess around with it to be specific for your character. If it still connected by the return value and you can't change it, alt+left click on the green return value to disconnect it. Hope this helps :)

That helped I also had a weird issue where I was glitching through the cube when vaulting and I found out that deleting the multiply from the forward vector to into the new actor location solved my issues, I’m not very sure why it worked for you and not for me but bottom line it works now lol

Hey matt I know this an old video but do you know if this would work in unreal engine 5.1, long story short game files are 200gb and ive tried reducing for backup sake but im worried i migth bust the ue5 default mannequin if i attempt this. @@Itzy066 I actually am able to use mixamo with my current projects. If you use the blender remesh plugin, you can convert the skeletal mesh to one with a root for the animation to work with. So you upload your model to mixamo first, then it rigs it with the mixamo skelmesh. Download all of your animations and load the folder into the remesh plugin. Remesh the animations to one with a proper skelmesh and you should be fine. I hope I explained that well enough.

@@developing4fun818 sorry helpful person, i said to increase play rate of vaulting montage simply because when the player is sprinting and starts vaulting, the animation speed is slow which makes the transition from sprinting to vaulting look bad.

sadly the animations can only be used with the default ue5 character, i tried to import and it gave me a "animation doesnt contain the root track" error

How do I get the vaulting thing to show up with the inputs, so I put a key for it in the inout settings like you did, and tried making a node and searching “Vault” which is what I had it and it just wont show up and I’m getting really mad

Is it also possible to do a second set of vaulting for higher walls ? So if its a small wall, it does a small vault and for a big wall it does a big vault.

If you started in the third person template you should have it by default in "Mannequin>Animations>ThirdPersonAnimBP". Hope this help :)

Hey! I sis it all and it works, but I want to integrate it with a bought blueprint system where everything is run through the BP_GameController, set inside the level. And the collisions are messed up, they seem to start not in fromt of the character but inside the capsule, and the vertical ones go way up so even the small walls seem like 4 meters tall. Any ideas how to override it?

hey matt when i try to import the anims it tells me it couldnt be found could you maybe leave the mixamo downloads so i know exactly which anims to get?

I can't seem to get it to work unfortunately. I have done it exactly like the tutorial but the only thing that happens is that the actor stands at the cube that I have made into a small wall and the red lines for the Line trace is showing, both infront of the actor and a bit above. No animation is playing and the actor is not vaulting over the wall. Can someone please help me? :)

That happened to me. Maybe you have typed in negative values (in the relevent code) because Matt says "negative 300". When using a negative float the value you type in, is positive. The minus float node does the negative bit. The ones I'm talking about are 200 on the float minus float node rather than -200 and 300 on the copy and pasted float minus float node rather than -300. That was the problem I had anyway.

Ive watched this video 3 times now and im doing this in 1st person …when i walk up to a wall to vault the camera does some kind of snap back action and it just shows the redlines where the target location is being hit but no vaulting animation… im doing everything in the video step by step and im not understanding how in the video its working for you and not for me… im pretty sure nothing is broken in my code for the fact this will be my 4th time watching this video pressing stop and play on each step ..is there anyway you can upload a template of the code for download? Im just so confused on what i am doing wrong at this point and I’m really wanting to learn

From the comments it seems that if he used an older version of UE4 and you use a newer one, it might not work the same ...

Hi, got a problem. I followed every step twice but my character starts grabbing the wall and then freezes for like a second and stops vaulting. Not sure if it is a fault of UE5 but I have no idea what would cause this.

If you are using the third person character, you should be able to go to the folders "mannequin>animations" and open the "third person anim bp"
