@Justin Rivaldo Actually thats false. It would be 1.25x normal speed. Heres my math (Correct me if im wrong) -If Neil talks, its “2x” assuming “x” is the amount of time it takes a normal person to talk. If Ben talks, its “0.5x” with x being the same -So if they each talk once, it is “2x+0.5x” -If it was normal, it would be “2x” because its each person talking normally -If we simplify it to how much it takes for one person to talk compared to a normal person, it would be 1/2(2x+0.5x) -That means its “x+0.25x” or “1.25x” Sound right? 😂

What’s funny is that this might be true if 1. All religion is false or 2. Religion is not false but the same religious text is required to exist in its current form. If the Christian God exists, and all religious knowledge of Christianity is terminated, then definitely something divine would have to happen again to restore it. If religion is all false, this could be true. However, we’d end up with religions very similar to existing ones. At least in values of right and wrong. Over history we’ve seen many civilizations that have thrived share similar moral values. While some people believe morality can exist separate from religion (which is kinda true), the reality is morality requires transcendent belief. Morality is kind of a transcendent belief in itself. Tldr; if religion is false, we actually might see religions reform but with the same moral values. If history shows us anything about it. If it’s real, it would require different religious text to restore it anyways.
@masonrice14392 жыл бұрын
@@evanfischer5282 morality doesn’t require transcendent belief at all , someone who can’t imagine a world without religion might think that though. Religion while having some good values to learn from has done far more bad than good and that’s been proven from history. @@DanK123 Ben Shapiro is incredibly smart and is also a chameleon, tailoring his rhetoric for the current audience. When his audience is young and ignorant (think B.S. destroys college student), he speaks incredibly fast and uses specious arguments which sounds good to the acolytes while overwhelming the unprepared question asker. These arguments always ignore all subtleties of the issue and are obnoxious, disrespecting the position of those who disagree with him. He will make irreverent statements like, the left wants to make abortion legal up to the age of 7, implying through sarcasm that the opposition would casually abort a third term fetus. In reality, less than 1÷ of abortions happen in the third trimester and are typically because either the fetus or mother's life is in danger. With statements like that, the goal is not to come to an understanding, it's to demonize the opposition. When his audience is learned and not aligned ideologically, he is much more careful. He asks more thoughtful questions, and gives more reverence to the opposing opinion. He does a good job of highlighting the differences without being combative. He avoids his most evocative and shallow statements. This is how his Sunday conversation with ideologically opposed guests such as NDT goes. Then there was the Andrew Neil interview. He misjudged his guest and chose the irreverent style for a learned counterpart. He put on his cheap point fast talking hat and looked like a moron, because Andre Neil could easily parry his ridiculous statements. I think Ben Shapiro is well educated, speaks clearly, and is very funny. I very much appreciate the version like we saw tonight. Im sad that there is the second "leftist tears" version that tries to generate headlines to drive ad revenue. Unfortunately, thag version is a mirror for our uneducated populace which is not interested in evaluating subtleties of tough issues. Ben Shapiro is a talented chameleon who gives his audience exactly what they need in each situation in order to drive maximum ad revenue. I hope society wakes up and starts demanding conversations like this one more often and stops getting excited about making the opposition look foolish. If so, we will get only the good version of ben, because he will always give his audience whatever it needs so he can continue to sleep on his "bed full of money".
@DanK1232 жыл бұрын
@@ethanschreiber4153 Wow - that's a great analysis. Without knowing much about Ben, I see what you mean. He very carefully approaches each interview in a specific way, designed to achieve a certain goal. He must be "smart" to do what he does, even if he sounds like a moron half the time. I'll just never understand how somebody becomes so ideologically entrenched in Republican politics. Sometimes I wonder if all of these clowns know better but are simply doing it to enrich themselves at all costs, even our democracy. And yes with Neil, he can't help but revere him....so it's hard to attack and berate as he would to most others. Just pointing out the move Neil made (I think it's known as a phenomenological position) to consider a person's subjective reality fact because it's real enough to them. I think there are some advantages to that, but you have to draw a line somewhere. For example he isn't quite as considerate of the subjective reality of people who feel the earth is flat.
@firefalcoln5 жыл бұрын
Falcondark5 I think what matters is if the person arguing that they’re gender contradicts their sex thinks their gender is a literal description of reality, or their subjective perception of themself. Is their own label a literal description of their biology or a subjective description of their humanity. That’s the distinction where I will decide if I respect or won’t respect a trans person’s label. It can be impolite and awkward to get into those details with trans people. So I try to give them the benefit-of-the-doubt if I don’t know yet. As for the flat-earthers, I think that’s a poor analogy because there doesn’t seem to be a question over whether or not it’s a literal or subjective opinion if the earth is flat or an oblong sphere.

@Vichedges10 ай бұрын
He learned, we all did. We learned that if Tyson doesn’t like what scientific research says it’s fine to censor it. You know, to protect “feelings”. I find it interesting that he thinks the whole “trans” political movement doesn’t affect anyone outside of “trans” people. I mean if a white person “identifies” as black does he feel the same way? “Free country” right? If “Transracialism” is taught in schools is he OK with that? It’s a legit phenomena after all.

Neil fell all over himself when confronted with transgenderism and abortion, especially on transgenderism. NDT is confusing/ conflating personality/self-expression "spectrum" (neuro biology) with gender (physical, anatomy biology)...2 VERY different scientific disciplines. If he'd actually open-mindedly addressed this issue here, he'd see how he doesn't stand with science given his explanation to Ben. @NearLight Who are the radicals on the other side that I'm missing? I'd like to be fair, but I'm not going to pretend that radical social constructivists are balanced by some movement of radical biological essentialists. Can you give me an example? I don't understand the question of motivation driving the scientific classification... of something that is an ideological construction. I don't understand what it is that you want to classify scientifically. We already classify personalities on many spectra. If you are defining "gender" as a subjective feeling, or a social construct, then it doesn't have an objective element that really needs to be "classified". If you are talking about simply being _descriptive_ of self-made self-identity, then I don't understand why you would want to classify it really, definitely not how you would do so "scientifically"? Are you suggesting creating and/or codifying new social constructs, or investigating a new biological discovery? Or are you talking about very very rare chromosomal abnormalities? Because I think those are already classified by chromosome. Is there a movement not founded in radical social-constructivist ideology that wants to redefine gender? If I'm missing something I'll take a look...

@AN-it8dp5 жыл бұрын
Wombat Op Gender was never anything more than a synonym to sex in our society, or at least since around the 15th century when middle English was a lot more developed and French brought the Latin root “genus” with it, initially meaning type or genre which also uses this root. The verb of said root was generare, which I’m sure you can guess means generate, though the context was usually that of generating offspring. Even the word gender itself was used as a verb to mean procreate, which is why it’s meaning is so tied to different sexes Follow the diagnostic path, you are diagnosed as having gender dysphoria, a disorder which is treated by a relabeling as transgender which is not a disorder. The solution for which is the indulgence of the dissociative identity disorder of the patient through hormone therapy, and later a potential sexual reassignment surgery. Wow, if only they treated schizophrenics this way dinner parties would be far more interesting with my uncle Emperor Constantine the II riding his pet ship dog into the kitchen. Nevermind the parallels to transableism (voluntarily dismembering yourself/cutting off limbs because you feel like you were meant to be disable) which is NOT supported by the SJW 🏳️🌈 LGBTQ community at all. This is not because of it having no relation to sexual identity but rather because the idea that someone was meant to be born disabled is difficult to legislate on, even in progressive academia. So you were meant to be a women no problem, but if you were meant to be blind, have one leg, or paralyzed; this raises questions about mental health and the left has no interest in defending that position.
@iknown0thing5 жыл бұрын
Well, Neil has said in the past to not have role models. I can like parts of what Neil says and not all. But, yeah won't come to Neil when it comes to this gender/sex and gender spectrum thing. However, I do understand his argument that there might be scientific truths that if applied to law, can limit or completely take away people's freedoms. The problem is that if the majority decide that what's best for society is not to apply a scientific truth then where does it end? We will live in a society that does not value scientific truth and that contradicts Neil's outlook.

Neil would have to actually sacrifice something in order for him to be honest about gender. If he was, he would immediately be shunned by the twitter mob and the media, and he would lose all the notoriety he has gained over the years. He's not stupid. He knows what will happen to him if he steps out of line. He doesn't view the scientific reality about gender to be more important than his own fame. Before you berate him for that, consider the fact that it costs you nothing to speak the truth about these things. I mean, simply watch people like Amir Odom and Blaire White and see what they, and other LGBTQs, have to say about the Pride, BLM and LGBTQ+ movements and how far they've all fallen and instead use and abuse those foolish enough to support any of them. Children should make adult decisions when they *become adults.* Schools shouldn't teach sexuality until they're in the 6th grade and drag shows and Pride Parades shouldn't allow kids in until they are 18+. This is all just common sense. Again, watch as many videos from Amir and Blaire as you can about the BLM, LGBTQ, Pride and other Woke, Far-Left agendas and why they've strayed far, far away from it all and why they want the rest of us to do the same. There's many valid concerns to be shared here. We shouldn't dismiss it. It's all about hearing both sides of the argument before coming to a full and proper conclusion, right?

@@mags7054 But it isn't a contradiction. A person can care about scientific fact and the beliefs, feelings, and rights of others at the same time. From what i understood. his point was that science provides knowledge and information that can be used to inform policy decisions, but that *science shouldn't be used as a reason to take rights away from certain groups* as when this happens it usually is reeeeaaaallly bad. Thats not a contradiction, that's simply putting a reasonable boundary on the use of science in politics. In that quote he was saying that it is an interesting field of scientific inquiry, but not relevant to policy decisions because it is an issue of freedom. Science ALWAYS involves bias and values, it is never completely objective because humans are not objective. It is our best method for finding objective facts, but this means we have to be careful with it, placing boundaries on its use, examining it for bias, etc. Which is usually what the philosophy of science of scientific ethics does. A really good scientist always acknowledges this. It doesn't mean they are throwing science out of the window or contradicting themselves. NDT clearly has a good measured view of the issues discussed and is a very grounded scientist.
