Done this on my Astravan today; thanks ever so much for making this video mate, helped a great deal and very easy to follow. I think I’d have struggled without it. Never had a warning light come up on mine but it was puffing smoke on start up and idling rough - when I opened the EGR up it was easy to see why - coked up solid..! Easy to see too why the garage used to charge me so much to do this, hell of a job trying to do some of those bolts.. All done now and the van runs like new, thanks again for the video!

@@mrfid72 Must be so many out there, mine’s had EGR trouble before but I’ve only really gotten into car mechanics fairly recently. My last garage bill to do the job you’ve done there was £338, and I’ve had that done twice..! Could kick myself twice now for paying it but that’s how we learn!

There is an easier way to do a half job on the egr valve. If you freeze the vid at 0:38 seconds you can see the solenoid removed from the egr valve body. This is fairly easy and is x3 torx bolts. Don’t forget to undo the electrical plug on the top of the solenoid when you remove it. This exposes the spring end of the egr, which is basically the back of it. On the couple of 1.3 cdtis I’ve done there is enough of the centre shaft sticking proud to get a pair of needle nose mole grips on it. Shoot some wd40 or similar through the spring into the shaft centre hole( it’s like a valve guide). Then work the mole grips until the spring is super smooth. May take a couple of minutes. Spin it round and work in and out. This is not as good as stripping the unit completely but will allow a vehicle to get back to working. Since it takes at least 6-7 years for an oe egr to stick completely this fix could last years 👍

I just had to do this job again! this time it was just the solenoid which was stuck, however it didn't let the car run. it started but only ran at half revs for a couple seconds then stopped.

@@mrfid72 you don’t hear of the solenoids failing that much, but it can’t do it much good pushing against a seized egr valve.

Interesting to know. Currently have a 1.3 astra J which isn't revving over 3500rpm..could this be a cause of that? Won't hurt to check I guess

If you search ebay for "egr astra 1.3" you should be able to find it, i believe the part number is 55192348, but i tend to go by the pictures. Or it might be part number 55184651?

Why didn't you just remove the lot with cooler. Then it's only 2 torx bolts once you have removed things out the way and took hose off

@skatepark02 Can the coolant line be bypassed with metal hose so coolant not circling in the egr? Will it have problems with engine or egr with coolant bypassed? I blanked the egr, the plate has hole in the middle, in the summer time no eml in the winter it occasionaly lights up, but only when its cold outside, cant figure out why it is like that :)

@@MrFaceonline Yes, I did that with mine. My EGR is completely removed and coded out. you just need to get two pieces of pipe to connect the feed and return coolant hoses directly to the engine. And then get a two really solid plates to blank off the hole in the engine block and the hole in the intake manifold. But you must get it remapped/coded out so it doesnt trigger a light.

Hello mate, just did the same job on my Astra and it was a nightmare with some of those bolts. But your video helped a lot so thanks! Just wondering if your engine light went out straight away? Mine is still on with the same error code in the system. Do you know if it will eventually clear automatically?

So far so good, mind you i haven't done many miles only 60 in the last two months with the lock down. The fault cleared straight away. Its an interesting question because for a whole year prior to me changing the EGR i had the new unit plugged into the wiring but not bolted into the system, this was an atempt to get it though an MOT with out having to change the whole thing. even then the management light came up, so i wonder if other items may cause the same fault?

Mine exactly same astra is loosing coolant about half liter per 20 000 km. Area of common trail pump is wet but also left and right up of radiator hoses is a bit wet. I never caught it wedding after heavy driving in motorway. Maybe those hoses are just sweating? its 14 years old car anyways. Anyways I will inspect those hoses and my idea was to clean throttle valve and intake manifold same time. I don't care about EGR since its turned off by programming.

Hi bud is this big job? As my engine light been on 2 hears saying egr valve now car completely losing power AA Man said valve seal gone leaking oil ok egr valve and needs cleaning as completely blocked would you recommend getting new egr valve? Or cleaning. Also is it big job? Thanks

changing the EGR valve wasn't too bad, it was the one awkward screw holding the hose clamp on the back of the EGR with the other 3 bolts which was had to get to. as long as you have the torque 45 fittings and 3/8 drive ratchet you should be ok. old unit should clean up ok, i bought a new one just incase. £35 seems to be an average price.

Hello, quietly harder you do the things happening, mean there will be a lot easier if coolant is drained from the point spec. designer onto radiator, and after removing the pipe from EGR to the Heather, then other pipe with coolant below from the vacuum pump and after the two bolts holding the EGR to the head. So you have the whole EGR OUT... ALSO you missed to show the other valve which is under the valve you showed... BECAUSE THE OTHER VALVE IS USED TO BE BLOCKED AND STAYS OPEN .... which lead to the bad engine work....

This engine is mounted in Fiat, Suzuki, Opel, Alfa... These are good engines. Last year used to make a 340 000 km Suzuki swift lll 1,3 ddis - still running good!

@@mrfid72 if you just blank it with a piece of plate yes it will give you fault in dash,if you delete via software from ecu no light no fault in dash..car needs to be remapped
