i live in cornwall so spend a lot of time on country roads and have been so far unsuccessfully trying to chase down a clunking noise on my astra j, for the price and ease i might give this a go, thanks

Need to do my Daughters Corsa so this is a godsend! Excellent tuition there for me as the local garage want £180 per corner! So we can save £240 now😊😊😊

Had the same problem 40 years ago on a Capri 3 litre. Nobody could solve it until a good friend of mine at the time said front shocks. He was right now sadly departed. It is an odd noise as you don’t think shocks would make it and still appear to function in every other way.

Exactly…! I even had them off to do the top mounts….!

Great job mate - a quick question, should I have the car on the ground before tightening the strut top bolt ??
@Roverturbo Жыл бұрын
I’ve never done that, the tops coned, so should self centre.

I have exactly the same problem with my Astra estate front shocks doing that 👍👍👍👍

Hello. Do the front struts on the Opel Astra fit the American Chevrolet Cruze? They struts look identical. The GM part number is 19471415 and 19471416. Is there a conversion chart to convert GM to OPEL parts? I know the 2.0 Engine is identical. I am looking for the "quick strut" as I want new springs.

Sorry I don’t know, quick google on part number comes up all over seas, so I doubt they are the same.

Done this to my car. And couldn't get the nut back on, its like the spring is too long, the shaft just sucks back in, is that normal ? The parts places says i got the correct spring

Pull the shock as far out as you can and clamp it with mole grips and rag or something and try again. Sometimes you have to compress the spring a scary amount, especially a new one, or reposition the clamps.

Thanks that's what I did. But the ride height is 12mm higher now, is that because I've only done 1 spring and the other side is old, I felt like a cowboy dogging it back together

Forgot to also say. That on fall lock it makes like a grinding clunk noise 😢😢

@RAZEROFFICIAL2024 old springs do sag.

Did you check the old spring against the new one? I know it’s hard if it’s snapped, but you can still get an idea if you have the broken bit.
