I love vauxhalls, especially the cavalier models. Beautiful cars remind me of my childhood along with the mk3 supra with the 7mgte engine and ford sierras xr4i 4x4 my favourite cosworth is the sapphire rwd and 4x4 beautiful they don't make cars like they used to most cars these day's look boring and lack character etc

I used to own a Carlton GSi 3000 24v in Anthracite Black from 1999 to 2006. Was a beast of a car and always attracted a comment or two at traffic lights. Super smooth straight 6 which went on forever. Apparently the Lotus Carlton had just as much torque on tick over than the 3000 GSi had at 7000rpm. I had mine do 150mph (clock) with three mates on board...private road of course ;) By far the best car I'll ever have owned and dearly missed.

I've got a guy local to me in North Essex with a nice Lotus Carlton! It's clearly his pride and joy and I'm guessing that he's owned it from when the prices were more reasonable as there's only flats or small houses nearby. I remember there being a brand new Lotus Carlton in town back in the day along with a couple of RS500s, Escort Cosworths, normal Sierra Cosworths. Essex has always been big on fast cars!

Nice. I had a 12v back in 2003. It was a great car but not actually that fast I suppose by modern standards. However I was 19 and it felt like a rocket ship to me!
@mcmondo4 ай бұрын
@stewartjmurray you're correct when comparing to modern day motors but it's still quick for what it is, a big four door family saloon. I was 27 when I had mine and I don't know about you, but driving something that size with that grunt made me a far better driver. As I recall mine had green injectors fitted, not sure how much they gave it but it was enough. It demanded a lot of respect especially in wet conditions. Mine was a J plate so amongst the last to be produced, although you might find one or two on a K.

The rounded rear wheel arches where only used on the Lotus Carlton or Omega and Opel Omega EVO 500 DTM race car and homologation street cars. The GSI 3000 had straight rear wheel arches. All very cool cars though 👍🏻

Hello mate, good to see you on form. I had a Carlton back in the day, only a 2 litre but I had it years and learnt quite a lot about all Carltons. The battery on all of them lived under the bonnet, I can't speak for the lotus, but all the standard GSIs 12 and 24v had the battery under the bonnet. The dash is an interesting one, a lot of the GSIs and almost all the 24v senators had the digital dash, but not all. Being an earlier 12v GSI, that analogue clock 160mph dash could be original. The engine has obviously had a lot more surgery than it says in the description, a rebore at least. From memory, the standard 3 litre 12v was around 168 bhp, I don't know what it will be with the turbo conversion, depends on the mapping and boost pressure. I would be nervous about rot under all that body kit as well! 10 grand for a very niche track car for someone reliving the thunder saloon days? Yeah, I agree mate, bit strong.

@@grahamwalton7154 Yes, you can butt. The FWD XE20s were way better, I had 2 and my mate had the 4x4. He was a minor object in my mirrors. He got me back, though. He got a Turbo engine & 'box, converted the box to 2wd. When is wasn't dumping 'box oil it was immense (if you could hold on), but my std GSi just kept running until the head went and went mixing oil and coolant. One of my best cars. Long missed.

I wonder if part of the reason, other the Lotus Carlton of course, the Carltons have not taken off is because of the availability of the imported Commodores which share a similar body but have more power and a bigger motor?
