My wife has had one of these from new, I really rate it tbh. Runs on fresh air and the engine like you say sounds better than other 3 cylinders. We almost traded it in last year but were going to give us pittance for it so we hung onto it. Think vauxhall missed a trick stopping making these.

Great little car packed with a decent level of safety features. Bought mine because it was one of the few small cars on the market that has a flat rear floor once the rear seat base is removed (just a couple of clips). This enabled me to carry a full sized dog crate with ease. I could even leave the crate door open without having to worry about accidentally smashing the rear hatch glass when closing the boot!

I have a 2018 SE. It's brilliant little car & surprisingly good on motorways for a 1.0L. Runs on fumes, cheap to tax/insure, cheap to fix/MOT. Once you've learned the power band it's like a go kart. There's also an SL Nav spec which comes with a 7" info screen & stop/start. One additional thing to add is they're built in South Korea so will be reliable.

These are quite popular with the elderly on the 1960’s estate where my mam lives, ideal for the 1960s narrow drives & garages. Ironically I remember a lot of old viva’s on the same drives when I was a kid

I bought a one-year old original Viva , in the early sixties, as a young family man. the three box design had a good boot . It performed very well against its competitors, in those days reaching 80mph. The modern cars are all designed with CAD systems ( Catia ? ) , which is why they are similar looking. Am I ancient ? You bet.

Yes , for all of us who spent far too long ramming filler in to the rotten body work of 1970 era Vivas they should have let that name die , then burned it , and buried again , Have to say however it's name sake is rather nice, just wished they'd called it something else

I take the opposite view. Viva is a celebratory , cheerful , name. These days, names can be awful, like the one beginning with a Q ; and the stupidly thought up Ka. Then there are some German ones, which can cause pensioners false-teeth to shoot out. Mazda have got it right , most having numbers.

My granddad had a ‘72 HC 2-door. He had it until eventually rust had completely destroyed the front inner wings - in the early 90s. I was always going with him to scrapyards to find parts for it! I hit 50 next month, and will be booking a drive in the ‘72 Viva they have at the Great British Car Experience - they have an almost identical one to a car my dad bought new in 1971! As for the new one? A bit meh!! 😂🤣

I have a friend who's had two of these from new. I'm surprised Vauxhall don't still do it. It's nicely equipped and the 3 cylinder engine is eager and even quite rorty at the speeds you can do on motorways nowadays (it does take a bit of effort over about 80, but who can do that nowadays with smart motorway monitoring everywhere?). It's also nicely equipped inside. Overall, I think it's been overlooked, possibly just because Vauxhall is not perceived as being as desirable as other brands. It's actually a really competent, pleasant and quite a fun small car, that may be a bargain in future because people obsess about other brands they perceive as being more desirable.

Interesting video James, not a car I would have considered given its name, due to remembering people who had Vivas in the 70s with rot around the headlights and bodged up over sills, but this Viva looks much better, but would have to be cheap, I could imagine spares may be a problem in the future as not many around.

These were launched when I still worked for Vauxhall - I still really rate them! Better than a i10, far more solid and the early models had DAB, Cruise etc. They started stripping spec toward the end of the run. The engine was great to rev through. Still get them as courtesy cars when my Insignia work car goes in for service. I'd genuinely have this over an equivelent i10, Picanto etc.
@scottboof
@scottboof 2 жыл бұрын
Also to add - when Vauxhall trained us to sell these cars, they taught us to stick your thumb and finger around the door frame - on a Viva, you can't meet them. On an i10 - you can! Better thickness on a Viva apparently!

It's the same as the Opel Karl, Chevy/Holden Spark and also the VinFast Fadil ( vietnamese ) but not the Celerio from Suzuki. Vauxhall have sold rebadged Suzuki in the past but the Viva is South Korean in origin. I wonder if it was something left over from the old Daewoo connection? It got dropped because it's not a PSA product and possibly ( only a theory ) emissions ( a lot of city cars got axed because of emissions )

Great to see and hear a favourable vauxhall review. Due to having to spend out on the house unexpectedly I had to aim low for the expected new car after ten year love affair with a mazda 2 and ended up with a corsa which to my surprise has so many excellent features and frankly does everything just as well as all the "superior' cars test driven before the cash strapping, ! Very underrated marque in my humble opinion. Sadly the new Peugeot based model is much worse to drive, is cramped and plastic inside and has a truly crap gearbox! Great videos !

That's not to say it isn't a good little car, just that Vauxhall haven't really done much with the styling to give it some identity, unlike the Up!/Mii/Citigo range. Also, James... Not that it's anything that I'm looking at now, but what would be a great first classic to buy? Cheap to buy/ easy and cheap to fix/ one for the future? Got one as our second car had it three years brilliant as a city car been reliable and economical good value too. Korean built so bullet proof. Sadly Vauxhall no longer offer a value product so leaving the market to Fiat and Citroen. Sadly the future looks depressing as car prices will rocket as we all go electric and as the next emission targets arrive expect £4000 increase on petrol and diesel cars according to some motor industry moguls. All fuel including electric will also continue to rise considerably , basically we’re going back to the birth of the car where it will be for the rich.

Would this be a HD following the old viva models then? If you are old enough to remember the previous 3 viva models. People moan about low horsepower, my first car a mini had about 47 horsepower! Good little car, better than pug 108 etc or other small similar cars! Always best getting highest spec for the money and this has low miles too. Should be a good profit in it for you here.

It looks very similar to the Hyundai i10 and Kia Picanto, anyone know if its the same car badged as a Vauxhall ?? Vinyl seating "Genuine imitation leather " for that Premium car feel !!!!

It's South Korean in origin but isn't related to either the Hyundai or Kia. It's sold as both the Opel Karl and VinFast Fadil ( vietnamese ) as well as the Chevy and Holden Spark. I theorise that it may be the last of the Daewoo connection. It got axed because it's not a PSA product

I had one as a courtesy car once. It was a new model at the time and the salesman asked me what I thought and I couldn't really give an answer as after 3 days I'd come close to forgetting I even had it - Which some people will like. It's not a bad car, as such, but it's a very bland, generic one.

"Vauxhall" lol....what you've got there is a Daewoo, not built in Ellesmere or Longbridge, but in S Korea. They were alright I suppose, but nothing compared to a Honda, Toyota, or even Hyundai. They held up reasonably well, but they were a bit crude

Yes but that's not apples for apples. You would be lucky to buy a 2012 Jazz with these miles at £7k in current market!

Is it just me or is there a shift happening away from just documenting your day to day life as a trader to these being sales videos for your cars coming in. Maybe it’s just these few whilst you go through the big recent purchase spree, I hope so.

I think this is the model that shared the platform with the Chevy Spark, and they were terrible. Hope this is better than the Chevy! Good first car for someone though.

Maybe a next generation, it's world's apart from the spark. In Europe its marketed as an Opel Karl. Badly under promoted by GM. They missed a great opportunity.

@@gerryattrickbiker Yes, next gen. Much better car... wiki: "The Opel Karl is a city car hatchback manufactured by GM Korea and marketed by Opel as a rebadged and restyled variant of the fourth-generation Chevrolet Spark, replacing the Suzuki-sourced Agila in Opel's range. The city car was discontinued following the sale of Opel to PSA Group in 2019, the same year production in Vietnam started under license of a rebadged variant, the VinFast Fadil. General Motors marketed a rebadged variant in the United Kingdom as the Vauxhall Viva."

@ChopsGarage
@ChopsGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Your best better is an older car with a proper old torque convertor auto not a modern hydraulically operated manual as they are unreliable. Toyota will be most reliable. So a Yaris 1.33 Auto would prob be my recommendation. 2010, 2011 with say 60-80k miles is where you will be for 5k. Go for history over mileage/age every time!

Isn’t the new Viva basically a Chevrolet Spark? Presumably most mechanical’s are same on a shared wheelbase. Now Vauxhall Opel are owned by PSA Group, they are switching all models over to their own platforms. Therefore new Vauxhall cars from now on will be rebadged Peugeot or Citroen vehicle designs.
