just bought the hammer drill and impact set today, i’m a 2nd year carpenter apprentice i’ve used dewalt, makitta and milwaukee i gotta say this isn’t bad.. a lot of journeymen are surprised by it. I’m going to start my tool line up with this brand through the rest of my apprenticeship and see what it does. I gotta say being the only one in field with this brand haha i’m not confused on who’s are who’s tools and battery’s.

I’ve got the 1/2” hammer drill as well, and love it. That thing is a beast. It has taken everything I’ve thrown at it without any problems. I accidentally broke the chuck on the first unit I bought by doing something stupid, but I reached out to FLEX and they sent me a replacement without any hassles. I told them all I needed was the drill itself, not the rest of the kit, but they went ahead and sent me the whole kit anyway, so now I have 2 of the crazy fast chargers and 2 extra batteries for free. I just ordered the 1/2” impact wrench (tool- only model) yesterday, because I don’t need the extra charger or batteries (as I mentioned above), so I can’t wait to give that a go on my truck. I reached out to support again to ask if I can buy just the hard case since the tool-only model is just that (tool-only), and I want to keep it nice and safe. I haven’t heard back yet, but it’s only been 1 day.

What if.... FLEX ran a promotion that provided a consumer a free battery swap for a spent competitor battery of the same amperage while running a graduated price discount for acquiring new FLEX "tool only" deals. Would this inspire people to switch brands and start accumulating FLEX batteries? This would also be an environmentally responsible way of disposing of batteries which FLEX as a brand can advertise.
@thehourglasswithaman
@thehourglasswithaman 3 жыл бұрын
That would be genius, that would be a good incentive for people to switch because like he said people who are already in a battery system are not the target demographic there could become a point where if Milwaukee doesn’t step up their game or anyone else for that matter you could sell all of your used tools and buy brand new flex and not be out any money but that is slim to none odds that that is actually going to happen from Milwaukee just rolling over like a dead horse. But on a sidenote as someone who isn’t in to a battery system yet I am definitely keeping my eye on flex especially if they bring back the table top wet tile saw that they had in their 2019 tool calendar if that actually works as well as a regular tile saw and you can do plunge cuts that would be revolutionary to an aspiring carpenter like myself

Been a devoted Makita, DeWalt, and Bosch user. Lowe's recent sales promos helped me purchase my first FLEX, the rear handle 7 1/4 circular saw with DUST PORT! Awesome power, ergonomics, and absolute performance second to none . The variable speed grinder ( at the price of a single speed tool) knocked it out of the park. The 6 1/2 INLINE Circular Saw was quiet, powerful, and great line of sight on either side of the saw + a dust port! The new 18 gauge brad nailer is half the size of the DeWalt. The turbo hammer drill is awesome. More torque than my big DeWalt or Makita. Now I have made the switch. All the tools have better features and performance than the competitors. (Not on the Milwaukee 18v platform so I don't know how they compare.) The better features, performance, and power have inspired me to switch. Can't wait for the 10 inch 24v table saw with the corded option. The blower is also better than Makita, DeWalt, or Bosch. I was amazed at how good these tools really are.

I just recently switched over since I started back up in the construction field. They are a little heavy but if you remember when tools were meant to last they had a little more weight to them. So it seems like these might actually hold on in the long run. XTR v FLEX! I love my Kobalt 24V MAX XTR tools. I've got everything but the 1/2" impact wrench (still, not a lot of XTR tools, though a new gen is supposed to be coming out). I've got a few other Kobalt 24V tools (belt sander, fans, etc.) and most all of the 80V MAX outdoor tools which are fantastic. But I really like the FLEX tool differences for a few key reasons: - Definitely more performance. - Battery cooling technology (though same company is making Kobalt batteries without this technology thus far). - Anti-vibration feature is great for all-day use and trades. Also, where FLEX is taking note from Kobalt, they are supposedly coming out with 100 tools this year to build the line quickly to give more of a reason to buy in. Kobalt, as great as the XTR line is, is really lagging behind in tool selection. I hope it's all development and worth the wait. FLEX is definitely what I would buy into if I were to switch from XTR. I do hope Lowes ramps up their Kobalt 24V line, especially the new gen XTR tools. Really, they should just make everything XTR.
@preston1614
@preston1614 2 жыл бұрын
The torque test channel actually has the XTR impact as their most powerful, Flex is number 2 and Milwaukee 3. The turbo mode on the flex seems way more powerful than my xtr though but maybe it just has more rpm, is the only difference? I bought into the kobalt line as a cheap alternative to get me by when my dewalt broke again and took months to get warranty repaired. Now I have most of the kobalt tools and xtr series, been very happy with them, much better than my unreliable dewalts and the XTR has an amazing trigger on their impact, I love the precision. I think dewalt has the best trigger followed by kobalt xtr, over all other manufacturers.

I totally agree with the collet. If it works, it works. Never had a problem with the old manual style collet but the quick insert is a welcome addition. The quick eject on the flex might be an effort to shorten the tool by a quarter inch but it isn’t enough of a reason to choose it over another brand IMO.

I was going to buy Flex, but then I noticed Makita's 40v line and saw that they had outdoor power equipment so I chose to go with Makita. I've got some Bosch stuff now, but maybe as time goes on and those tools wear out, I'll consider going with Flex. At least the Makita 40v line is going to be expanding too so my toolbox can grow with it slowly rather than have me playing a game of catch up.

Vince, awesome work, I just bought the Flex FX1351 kit at Lowe’s today. They are on sale for $99 bucks for at least another month or so. 99 bucks for a brushless impact, two 2.5 amp batts, 160w charger, bag, clip, and bit holder with a T25 and PH2 bit, all with a lifetime warranty. I know it’s not the sleek and sexy “quick eject”, just your finger on a variable speed trigger connected to a 24v brushless motor. I gotta say , I think it’s the best bang for buck and most well thought out kit anywhere atm. Would love to see hear thoughts on it

Sooooo I know this is an older video. But I’ll just put this out here. I was all dewalt. Everything I had was dewalt. And just recently someone walked off. Job site with about all my battery powered tools. Still love dewalt. But this wasn’t the first time my dewalts walked off a site. So I decided to switch to flex cause I almost never see them in a site. And I still have my dewalt chop saw and table saw and shop vac ( basically what the perps couldn’t walk away with) but I decided to switch to flex because they are pushing the limits and putting out what appears to be good tools. Time will definitely have to tell. But so far I absolutely love their tools. There’s some learning curve cause when you’ve ran an 887 for years the other impacts are just different. But the quality and the efficiency of flex is amazing from what I can see. Again time will tell. But if your started out (or starting over 🙄) I’d give em a shot

I am very much out of their demographic. I'm in the Ryobi line and am perfectly happy with it as a DIY'er. Mine mostly sit on the shelf and when they are used they get used heavily. Also with my being relatively cheap, I don't see them coming after me. Don't get me wrong, it's one hell of a tool, but unless I have a special, specific need, it's too much too for my limited needs. If I have a need to run lag bolts through something like putting in a deck? I have my corded driver and if I need really heavy duty, I have air tools. Beyond that? I'm hiring a contractor.

My practical use for it is for drilling holes in Tile. This morning at the jobsite the carpenter's had to drill a bunch of holes in 1/4 inch or 3/16 angle Steel. I told them about the anti kick back feature and said put it to the test. They drilled a 3/8 pilot hole then finished it off with a 1 inch bit. Everyone that used it was impressed. It was faster than the Dewalt they had,and plus nobody broke a wrist.

It’s not quite as powerful as the m18 but it’s a night and day difference in how my wrist feels after using the two. I agree with Vince that flex is a competitor to the other big names. It’s not necessarily better, but its not worse either. As a career mechanic, I will be replacing a lot of my tools with flex because The impact impressed me a lot and I’m in need of a new driver, drill, and reciprocating saw. I also have Ryobi home tools that I really can’t justify keeping, since I’ve started a lot of serious projects lately. Flex will be my platform for home and work by the end of 2022

I like the push-button bit release. It's easier use one hand to release the bit while using the other hand to remove the bit. With other designs, you have to release and remove the bit with the same hand. The nice thing is, this drill has both.

I am surprised at how many people are buying it on top of already being in a battery system that just shows how good their tools actually are. Up untill I found this video (which I knew this video would be good and unbiased considering he promotes Milwaukee so heavily and it seems like that is flexes main competition) all the people who I’ve seen complain about flex and sit there and say they’re no good are the same people who are already in a battery system which to me no offense but who cares and that just seems like pure jealousy to me that now somebody else came along and done exactly what your tools can do but slightly better and more importantly a lot cheaper. I am so excited to see where flex goes and as soon as I have the opportunity to invest into them I will

I didn't have a platform, so I went with this one. We'll see how it goes over time, but gotta say a lifetime warranty is pretty appealing and the thing seems to work pretty well? It's not like the company is new, either... Just new to the US market. Price seemed really reasonable, considering it came with a decent fast charger and two batteries.

Work at Lowes, they put a flex display down at the pro end where you can drive long wood screws into 2x4s. They are definitely marketing towards pros only. I was impressed but that was coming from my bottom of the barrel Craftsman Brushed combo kit lmao.

I tend to agree on gizmos are just more things to fail, but one thing I can see about the quick release is that the collet is pushed back hidden a bit, which keeps it from being engaged when using and dropping the bit like say inside a wall cavity. of course if you push the tool deep enough, the quick release will be engaged and could do the same thing. but from experience ive had a driver bit come out from an extension with a lock release that way inside the wall and it sucked.

But why would you need to buy anything else? Reality is if you buy into a quality platform from the big 3(Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee) you should be all set. All 3 brands make just about every tool imaginable, all are high quality and will get the job done. Performance is so close that arguing about it is like arguing ford/chevy or coke vs pepsi. Its a useless argument. Myself i'm pretty heavily invested in Dewalt both 20v and 60vflex stuff. I have never once thought i needed a different brand because of some gimmicky feature or performance.

Been on the 20 volt DeWalt platform, but have also been building up a Milwaukee 12 volt collection just because of all the compact offerings. Despite this I think I'm going to at least get the flagship Flex hammer drill and possible their 1" SDS plus rotary hammer and use them for more taxing projects for two reasons. First, they do appear to be really good products, and also because if you register your products any time during the 2021 calendar year you get a lifetime warranty as part of their founder program. That's pretty solid. Vince, how about a Flex rotary hammer review?

I have multiple tool lines. Makita DeWalt Porter-Cable Ryobi and I use battery adapters so I only need to carry DeWalt and Makita batteries and can run all my tools. I have a flex tool set and I will use it more if they make a battery adapter so I don't have to buy batteries for flex. So far the flex set is pretty decent.

I am currently on the Dewalt battery platform, Although the flex system is more powerful I don’t see it as a night and day difference to add a second battery platform. In my opinion they came out too soon. The Dewalt DCF887 is my current impact driver (yes the one that blew up 3 times on TTR) it isn’t the fastest or most hard hitting impact on the market but It is on a proven battery platform. I think flex is going to need 3-4 years to prove its reliability at least. At that point the big 3 (Milwaukee Makita and dewalt) would have new flag ship impacts that could possibly out preform the new flex seeing how close they actually are in performance. At that point it’s a choice of battery platform and the options they have on it. If that’s the case I think people will stick with what they already have. I also could be 100% wrong but this is my personal opinion

The quick release button seems interesting! 🤔 At least for me! The impact driver is my daily bread and butter and I use it 95% of the time for my tasks. There are some tasks that I do for my build everyday where I need my left hand holding something and my right hand hold my impact driver at the same time. I use my impact driver for pre/drilling and lagging right after the pre-drilling. So I would have to take my left hand the off the other item to remove drill bill and insert the driver bit. The quick release button is not for everyone, but might work for some people. To bad I can’t seem to go any any FLEX impact drivers at my local LOWES. I wish I get my hand on a FLEX impact driver now and to take it for 1 month test drive 😄. And definitely would give the quick release button a real world trial.

i used to work at a Home Depot and got started collecting Ryobi tools. i have probably 20 different Ryobi tools and they all work well. i flip houses and we use all the Ryobi tools for everything. i am always buying a new Ryobi tool that looks helpful. however, i do have some other battery tools, Dewalt, Milwaulkee, and Kobalt. when i was an associate in the tool dept. at HD i would tell every guy asking about battery tools the same thing - look at the entire line of tools each company makes to see if they have all the tools you need or have something unique that someone else doesn't have. then pick that line because once you get "wedded" to a particular battery line, that's it because NONE of the major brands batteries are interchangeable. the second thing i would advise is for someone purchasing their first battery tool, ALWAYS buy the "kit" with the tool, battery and charger because ALL the lines sell some of the tools as "tool only" which means you have to already have a battery and charger. i have found that the major battery tool brands - Ryobi, Kobalt, Dewalt, Ridged, Makita, and Bosch perform at very similar levels. there are other brands that Lowes sells like Craftsman and Mutabo, but i have no experience with them. i buy mostly Home Depot stuff. yes, there are certain tools by certain brands that seem to be "the best." i purchased a Milwaulkee battery chain saw because after a lot of research, that saw performed the best out of all brands but i purchased the saw "kit" which was the saw, battery and charger. it has never made sense to me to chase "the next shinny thing" that comes out. if the tool i have performs well for me, i STAY with that brand. i only buy "new brands" when there is a "unique" tool that is designed to do a particular task that i am faced with that my existing tools can't do or will take too long to do. a final "warning" i would offer is to look at the cost of the BATTERIES for whatever line you are interested in. battery costs have risen dramatically over the last year and it is now not uncommon to have to spend $100 to $150 dollars JUST FOR A BATTERY!

@@mgmproductionz1641 that’s nice. Don’t forget to register for the lifetime warranty. It’s only offered till the end of this year. Would be nice if the lifetime warranty was the standard. Now that would make a statement. But just like the most companies who choose to use planned obsolescence. It appears the tools that are turbo are the ones that I believe I’m interested in. It’s only a matter of time till the other major tool brands catch’s up to FLEX Turbo. Then flex with introduce a 2gen. It’s a very frustrating tactic any manufacturers tend to practice. It’s like I’m compensating them (any manufacturers) to bata test there products, when it turn it should be the other way around. My issue is the commitment to the batteries. Each manufacturers have different form/fitmet of the batteries. Once you made up your mind on what brand, then your commitment to the particular manufacturer. Ie taking a dewalt battery to use on a Milwaukee. Doesn’t work that way.
@Greg....

Do flex offer more then just drills and impacts? Dewalt/Milwaukee/makita etc all have a big range of different skins for the same battery platform which is why i stick to one brand. Dont need different batteries or chargers for different tools. Same batteries, 1 charger, and multiple tools. It also saves space when you work out of a van or ute not having un nessisary clutter.

I saw in their 2019 tool calendar which I hope they bring it back at some point or another they had a table top what tile saw that hooked up to a garden hose and if that works as well as an actual tile Saul does and you can do plunge cuts that is going to be revolutionary for anyone who does home-improvement war someone who is even a professional carpenter like I’m trying to be to literally just be able to walk outsideTurn on the hose turn on the salt and to be able to cut whatever hole you need to in a piece of tile would be revolutionary for home-improvement and someone who is a professional carpenter like I’m trying to get into

I actually work for Lowe's, in "Tool World", so my personal opinion might be biased. But we do have a Flex demo up, and I got to play with the impact driver. Frankly, I'm impressed with it. I point home owners at Craftsman and Kobalt. I push pros to Dewalt, but I also say "try out this Flex driver, it's pretty cool."

I also work in Tool World at Lowe's. Our demo impact driver died after three weeks of driving 2-1/2" screws into pine 2x4s. The tool just beeps when the trigger is pulled, even with fully charged batteries. Our demo station wasn't even heavily used as there were less than fifty screws driven before it crapped out. Probably an aberration, but I don't have enough of this model on hand at the moment to set up a replacement demo unit.
