Martin A my trans temp shows 75 while in idle. Is this bad? Cause I have done the service correctly and set the oil level just as explained in the video. What am I missing?
@cili75 жыл бұрын
Engineering mode temp is best because its taking the temp of the fluid inside the case. A digital thermometer is taking surface temp of the case, and this can vary greatly depending on whether it's cooling or warming up. Long story short, engineering mode temp only.

hi i have a 2008 6 litre l98 ve calais sedan with 160000kms and 6 speed auto, im not sure when the auto was serviced as i bought the car secondhand. The gearbox is hopeless with hesistation on kickdown, indecisiveness and like not being in gear when rolling through a corner or roundabout etc. I have read many things from it needing a flush to a tune to a new battery to it being just a horrible auto with torque management settings etc but it makes it horrible to drive , what would u recommend? will a service and flush make it better and how much should it cost or would it not change the bad characteristics of the box? thank you very much in advance
@YepThatsIt6 жыл бұрын
Hi, definitely start with basic checks first...especially correct fluid level and type. if it hasn`t been serviced in a while it could have partially blocked filter and/or contaminated solenoids. I wouldn`t completely flush out all the trans fluid ( unless it has coolant in there ) as it will thin out the fluid and then potentially run worse as the thinner new fluid will be able to run quicker through any worn sealing joints in the transmission and create low pressure problems. you may also need to take it to an automatic transmission specialist and see if any stored fault codes and maybe a pressure test. hope that helps cheers

Thanks for the video instructions. I have 10HBA auto transmission. When I ran scanner I get the error code: P0864-00 (Invalid Signal from TCM). When I inspected the transmission I can hear noise inside, something like engaging and disengaging every second or so. When I moved the car, I noticed the car feeling like it was auto switching from drive to park then to drive snd so on. On the cluster I can see when I change to any other gear the icon is displaying the gear I selected then keeps jumping to park and back to the gear selected. I can't seem to find anything with similar issues on any auto transmission models. Just trying to workout what could be causing this before i get it towed to someone. Cheers

I need some advice, I recently took my 2011 VE SV6 for a 150K service, a part of that service was to do the AutoTrans fluid and filter. I drove off after the service and returned the car because it was running rough plus hard shifting, they had the car for a day and couldn't work out the problem. I've since found out (by taking my car elsewhere) that a goo/silicon of some sort was put on the cork gasket and bled in to the AutoTrans fluid making the car run rough. I'm battling it out with the service provider because they are denying any maintenance errors, can you help me get some proof how the gasket should be installed as per the correct procedures to back up my case...
@YepThatsIt4 жыл бұрын
hi, they must`ve used an absolute excessive amount of silastic ! ( to cause restriction in filter flow ) and it baffles me why some mechanics use so much anyway ? we very rarely use it...only on housings that dont have gaskets or seals ( usually only fwd transmissions ), but they are precision flat surfaces anyway and we will only use a very very thin amount. can i ask if it was a transmission specialist? i would be surprised if it was..cheers

@@YepThatsIt No it was a local car service franchise, I won't mention them just in case it affects my dispute which is possibly going to end up in court after their refusal to compensate me for the repairs. I thought I did the right thing by giving them an opportunity to diagnose the problem but after having the car for another 4 hours they couldn't, so I got it diagnosed and fixed elsewhere, thanks for the reply...

@YepThatsIt5 жыл бұрын
hi, I'm guessing you mean how to warm up the trans fluid in cold climates or snow? ...you can run a transmission oil cooler right next to the exhaust manifold and utilize the heat from there. I'd probably also add a trans temperature gauge and also allow for the cooler to be attached to longer section of flexible hose, so you can move it away from the exhaust manifold in needed. cheers

Im not sure but some say that the system needs to be fully flushed because there's still fluid in the torque converter meaning you only get about half out if you don't flush it. Im no mechanic but that's what some say.
@YepThatsIt5 жыл бұрын
hi, from my experience people like to compare transmission fluid to engine oil. engine oil acts like a filter and absorbs carbon and needs to be fully replaced more regularly. in an automatic transmission the main function is hydraulic and also lubrication, it is used to move things hydraulically. in a general service on most transmissions, when you remove the pan/sump, about half the fluid will come out. if there is no problem or excessive contamination in the transmission fluid, then changing the amount that comes out when you remove the pan, will be sufficient to boost up the transmission fluid viscosity and desired properties. the problem arises when you have transmission problems, like pressure issues where this will burn the fluid...the burnt/contaminated fluid will be a little bit thicker than new fluid and thus, the thicker fluid will escape or travel much slower through any worn/leaking components. if your transmission has internal pressure leaks, replacing all the fluid with new fluid will only make things worse. if there is no problem with trans and it is a regular maintenance service, then replacing only the amount when you remove the pan is ample. some will argue that the pressure control solenoid and adaptive functions of transmissions will compensate for pressure losses/worn transmission internal sealing joints. some automotive garages will always push for a complete transmission fluid flush, but I reakon if trans is ok, then it is unnecessary and if transmission is worn then it will only make it run worse. having said all that, in my opinion you should always remove the trans pan and replace the filter, clean the trans pan and magnets and add magnets if you want an easy improvement. it is a waste of time to only drain the fluid without cleaning the pan and magnets and/or replacing filter. a transmission oil cooler added will also help keep the trans fluid cooler and help reduce the fluid quality breaking down and losing its properties from heat, as well as reducing the crystalizing ( hardening ) of rubber seals, that happens when you overheat the trans fluid. always use the best quality fluid suited to you transmission that you can afford as well. hope that makes sense and decision is always yours. cheers
@michcreach56355 жыл бұрын

filter service every 50Km up to 200Km then every 30Km after that to get max life. i only do full flush if coolant gets into trans fluid after adding a trans oil cooler and completely bypassing radiator/heat exchanger. coolant kills transmissions fairly quickly. cheers
