@stray cat Unlike the CAV or delphi pumps, it is different for VE's. The driveshaft sits on a camplate, countered by springs. You would definitely have some resistance turning it. The fuel itself lubricates the parts. But sitting for 10 years, it might already have some problems internally. Corrosion from rust and parts seizing might also be a possibility (if you can't turn the gear by hand).

Yes, it's possible. However, you must check for bearing play between the pump's housing and the driveshaft. Too much play can also lead to fuel leaking from the seal.

Hi, great video! I have a 1982 Volvo with a VW D24 and Bosch VE pump. The car has been sitting for over 10 years. The shaft will not easily rotate when I try to turn the sprocket. Should the shaft turn easily by hand? I'm wondering if something is seized up in there and what would be the best way to get lube in there?
@webslinger201111 жыл бұрын
@Erich Be careful installing the cover. You must loosen the full load screw before re-installing or else it will hit the governor lever.
@fackspadan4 жыл бұрын
Managed to break the govenor lever when putting the cover back on. Do you think it is possible to change the lever without removing the pump from the vehicle?
@webslinger20114 жыл бұрын
Pump needs to be removed from the vehicle.

The hydraulic head on my zexel pump is leaking. Do I need to remove the governor before I pull the hydraulic head off? Or is it possible to pull the head of by itself
@webslinger20114 жыл бұрын
Governor needs to be off before removing the rotor head. Best to replace the seals with new ones before assembling it back. If you're gonna DIY, be very careful putting it all back together. Parts are very sensitive to dirt and must be put back correctly. Inspect parts for wear.

Im confused my pump is similar but not the same as yours. I have a 82 rabbit and the injection pump was leaking started disassembly and got to the governor and cant get it to move. Tip would be great. My pump also has a slot on either side of the governor screw and not hex shaped

I rebuild a bosch VE pump, is an axial deviation on the main shaft normal?
@webslinger20114 жыл бұрын
DIY repair? What was the initial problem with the pump? Some minimal play parallel to the axis cause the driveshaft sits on the cam plate. Parts get checked if sent to a qualified repair center.

@@webslinger2011 thank you for the answer. Basically I have a lucas pump on my 205 except that it makes filings. I found a bosch pump reputed to be more reliable except that it was stopped since 13 years. I am in France, 2 dieselists in the sector and 800 € to watch without going to the bench
@webslinger20114 жыл бұрын
@@JEROMEGORDINI Oops, lucas CAV pump's internals are completely different from VE pumps. Also, parts are definitely more expensive. There shouldn't be much axial play on the driveshaft.

@@JEROMEGORDINI May want to inquire how much for a new pump.
@JEROMEGORDINI4 жыл бұрын
@@webslinger2011 Yes that's what i noticed, the parts are more expensive. On the bosch pump I have less than 1mm of play on the axle. To replace the lucas I found a bosch 425 pump Which country are you from ? it's nice and how much for a repair in case?

I have published a book. If you want more clear detailed instructions. About that voice over. As soon as I get the chance to do another pump. Last one I overhauled was too rusty and had a lot of broken parts. Who knows, maybe I'll show that as well. Hope you see my other videos.

hello and thankx about this video, im portuguese and i have something i would like to ask you : i will change my hydraulic head oring in my pump but i bought too a oil seal , however i need to ask you if its possible i change this oil seal whitout open the pump like you do in video ? well might be little difficult because you have the shaft there ( in my case) but what do you think , might be this possible? thank you

At the beginning where he mounted the pump to the vice what is that threaded hole above the driveshaft do? My dodge leaks right at that bolt and was just wanting to try and replace a possible gasket or o-ring that may be bad
@webslinger20116 жыл бұрын
John Smith That holds the flyweight assembly. There is indeed an o-ring on the shaft but you cannot remove it unless you know what you're doing. General pump overhaul is advisable. Seals might have become brittle and may need to be replaced.

On some zexel and denso ve pumps, the governor shaft has an adjustment the affects injection timing.
@webslinger201111 жыл бұрын
@Joe You have no choice but to take out the pump. It would be dangerous to have loose parts inside.

How much do you charge to rebuild pumps? I have a 3 cylinder bosch ve for my 05 new holland tractor that i ran out of fuel.
@webslinger20116 жыл бұрын
If it's just to repair leaky gaskets, it would be cheap. But if there's some parts to replace I'd say around 1000-2500 AUD. I've changed career in IOT and Mechatronics.
