Do not pull the thread back through the machine tension system. You are risking putting fluff and stuff where only the mechanic can clean. Cut thread before the tension discs and pull through the needle end. The intro classes at your sewing machine shop should have told you that when you bought your 770.

I would lower your presser foot slightly so it’s not pulling the fabric. Great machine!
