My boyfriend is from France and absolutely loves cheese and meat. I never thought he would go vegan but I didn’t mind because he still loves vegan cuisine and enjoyed vegan restaurants with me. Last week, after listening to podcasts and documentaries by himself, he told me he just turn vegan! Everything is possible giiiiirls!!!

Noemie Beland Do you mean plant-based rather than vegan? As veganism covers a lot more than just food? From the clothes you wear, to makeup and beauty products to mouthwash and car you drive to condoms. Since most condoms contains casein, a milk product derived from animals! Saying you're vegan but you drive a car with leather seats or leather steering wheels, as most cars do, or use toothpastes like Crest that do animal testing or use cleaning products that also do animal testing. Even Earth Balance vegan butter has Palm oil, which is highly detrimental to the environment and animals so Most definitely NOT vegan. Same goes for some Daiya products. Majority of shampoos contain Palm Oil. Put it all together, you're really not Vegan. But plant-based. Let's be honest.

I let my boyfriend make his own choice to be vegan. If he had any questions about the industry I would fill him in. (He is very passionate about the environment) and once he watched cowspiracy he realized the environmental impact and that’s what did it for him. He went vegetarian for 4 months and eventually went vegan for his health!

When my boyfriend and I met, I was already vegan and he a meat eater. Once I learned of his laundry list of health conditions and autoimmune diseases, I tried super strongly to convince him to go vegan. It took 2 years! He was super argumentative too and also had a comeback for everything. I kept trying to convince him via the health argument because he's so sick, but it wasn't until he watched What the Health that was the tipping point for him. He's interested in the conspiracy aspect of it and somehow that spoke to him more than anything. Well, after 2 months of being vegan the health conditions made no change. lol! However, due to him trying to be vegan and it not curing anything, that's when I figured out it was Celiac disease. Once he stopped the gluten everything got better for his health. Honestly though no one would have figured out he was suffering of Celiac disease for 12 years if it wasn't for that. The really interesting thing though is that now that he is a vegan, he likes being a vegan and wants to continue doing it despite it not being the cause of his health issues. The other day we were at the grocery store and there was a sign at the meat section that said "humanely raised." He was like, "Humanely raised, and then they KILLED them?" It's such a 180 from how he used to be. :)

I can totally relate to your frustrations, Nikki! My boyfriend of 2 years (when we met, I was already vegan) and I always have conversations about the ethical, health, philosophical, moral, and environmental sides of going vegan, and he always says that he agrees with me.... but then he goes and eats a chicken quesadilla. To give him credit, he eats WAY less meat than he use to before we started dating, and he absolutely loves most things I cook for him (I only cook vegan/plant based food). It's great to keep that hope and know that change is still possible!! :) Thanks girls!! Love your videos!!!

I firmly believe that my ex's main reason for breaking up with me was because I am vegan....he took my warnings against eating animal products as personal attacks when all I wanted was for him to feel better. He even told me he'd rather die at 60 from heart disease than "restrict" what he could eat! The lesson I got out of that break up was that it's more important to me than I thought that my next boyfriend is vegan, vegetarian, or at least open minded. It was a hard lesson to learn but an important one nonetheless! Also I just found your channel today and I already love it! New sub :-)

I went vegan about two years ago and was already dating my boyfriend at the time who was a huge meat eater. After a year he began to understand how much it meant to me and would ask me questions so we watched forks over knives and he went vegetarian right on the spot. A few months later I asked him to watch Gary yourofsky's speech because I wanted to be able to have mutual understanding with him. After that video it all made sense to him and he's been vegan ever since. I feel so at ease in our relationship and our bond is stronger than ever.

My SO is not vegan and so argumentative and I find it so hard to approach it without getting really emotional. He is normally the one who starts the fights and gets super defensive (for example when he heard this video he started getting angry and saying how we are not herbivores and meant to eat meat.) I think some people are just so set in their ways they need to come to a wake up call on their own time.

oh no! my SO was like that too when I started. He still refuses to watch any documentary or engage in any conversation about it but the more and more I just live this lifestyle and he watches me the more willing he is to listen and try (even though he still eats meat - he thinks about it more and that is a win I will take) - it just takes patience!

It might be helpful to just ask them to watch 1 video. I highly recommend what the health because all of their sources are available on their website. That's exactly how my bf ended up going vegan. He just needed to realize how disgusting animal agriculture is, how unnatural it is, and that he won't be tiny and skinny if he goes vegan.

My wife dropped the info she was going vegan at dinner one evening. I never saw it coming. It didn't create any weird reaction in me at the time. I had already made a biggish diet change years earlier due to reflux so this new change was just another one to adopt. I cut certain foods immediately and went full vegan around 4-6 weeks later. There wasn't much I missed, just the odd foods here and there, and eventually several months later, just seeing meat repulsed me. Gardein has been a good friend.

When I went vegan while I was already in a relationship my boyfriend of 4 years dumped me soon after. It was such a low thing to do. Some people are just very closed minded and self-centered. His addictions and cravings were more important than staying commited to a good relationship and growing together. Some people rather leave than face the denial they'll feal when eating meat next to a vegan meal. It's a stark contrast that makes them have to think about their unethical food choices. They're too lazy to do that. It's very sad and frustrating. But now I guess this has opened new doors for me and I'm happy to one day be happy with a vegan spouse where we can share these interests and love of animals/health/environment together. Being left probably turns out to be better for me in the long run. I really dream for that to become reality

My boyfriend became vegetarian about 3 months before we started dating. Over the past 1.5 years, he has mostly cut out animal products at home but will still eat a few animal items like cheese and fast food products that may contain milk. I am so proud of him for how far he has come, and I know we will only continue to grow in our veg journeys as our relationships continue. I try to never pressure him into moving faster than he is ready for, and I think it is so important to encourage their personal jkourney rather than try to force them onto your journey.

I told him that I will not cook animals for him but he's free to cook them himself. He eats a lot of my meals, sometimes if he can be bothered he will add cooked chicken or fish to it, but most of the time his main meal is whatever I make.

So this is my and my boyfriend's vegan origin story... My boyfriend actually went vegan first. He told me he was going to go completely vegan after talking with a couple of friends we have who are also vegan in December. I was totally supportive and told him that's completely fine and to just do your thing. But about a week or two after that, it just kept coming up in my mind, he didn't even say anything to me or try to convert me, everything I did was fully my choice. I just started watching vegan videos on KZbin, Mic the Vegan, Bitesized Vegan, Those Annoying Vegans, etc. And I got educated about it, and I decided to go vegan as well! He was very happy that I was going to be a part of his vegan journey. He did say now that if I hadn't gone vegan after a few months that he would have been uncomfortable with it, but at the time he was still new to it himself, so he didn't mind as much. 9 months vegan for both of us and we plan to keep going! :)

I’m vegan. My significant other is not, but is supportive and respects my POV. I think it’s super important to allow individuals autonomy and to allow others to make decisions for themselves. If it were the other way around and your omnivore partner pressured you to eat animal products it would be hugely offensive. It’s best to allow others to be inspired by your lifestyle and desire to emulate you organically.

My partner wasn't Vegan for the first 7 or so months that I was, I never pressured him to change and he supported my decision to be Vegan and he eventually came to his own reasons and went vegan himself. He ate mostly plant based because I do the majority of the cooking, but we've always loved having nights where we cook together so he started looking up recipes and doing his own research. He totally watched Gary's speech and Mic the Vegan and I think those things combined flipped the switch for him 😊.

I have been vegan since before I met my SO and he was not even close. I have told him from very early on that when I have children one day they will be vegan and he will have to at least eat plant based around them. We have had many discussions about why/how he isn’t vegan, he basically cares about upsetting me but hasn’t really made any real connection about the ethical side of things. A few months ago we watched what the health and after we watched it i just told him that i hoped he would consider it because I didn’t want to outlive him, the next day he told me he was going to cut back on meat and dairy. Now we live together and he buys 99.9% vegan groceries for the house but if we eat out at a place that has meat options he will almost always choose that over veg options (ex chipotle). The other problem is that we now live very close to his huge hispanic family and they are constantly making him tons of food so that’s the only time we have non vegan food in our house. He always said that even if he were to be plant based he would never not eat something his mom made him so he’s always going to eat meat when he is with his family which is just further proof he hasn’t made any ethical/emotional connection to veganism. Next year we are moving to a different state and I am hoping being away from those family dinners will make it easier for him. Any advice on documentaries or videos that mostly touch on the ethical/emotional side?

I just have to say I love watching these videos. I have no vegan friends in real life so I feel alone a lot which is why I turn to IG and youtube. I have been vegan for almost 2 years and my husband is not vegan (I wasn't vegan when we got married). He has always been supportive and backed me up when other people have negative things to say about it by saying how great my food is. Thankfully, he is 100% vegan in our house. I am the cook and I told him the day I went vegan that there would be no animal products in my kitchen lol and now when we go out to eat he tends to eat what I order. He agrees with everything I say about why I'm vegan. We went to Farm Sanctuary in NY and he loved it. But he refuses to watch any documentaries with me. Sometimes I do get frustrated but then I look back and see the changes he's made over time so I am hopeful he will get there. He even said one time "if I'm going to be vegan one day..." (I didn't hear how that sentence ended because I was so excited to hear those words lol). Love this video. So glad to know there's other couples that went through this and have a successful story to tell!

I became a vegetarian in my mid 20's because of my then boyfriend's influence it took me about 2 years to totally transition to that lifestyle and still many more years to transition to a somewhat healthier vegetarian. My then boyfriend became my husband last year and he challenged me once again to join him by eating vegan for three months before our wedding last year. We both really love cheese and I didn't think we could make it and was seriously having doubts about keeping it up because of my love for cheese. We both watched documentaries online about veganism & he would often tell me about some posts he would see on Instagram about the cruelties of dairy farming & well any animal farming. I don't know why but the movie that clicked the most with me wasn't some truth bomb filled documentary it was watching Okja on Netflix. It really made me feel so much empathy for what animals have to go through that I made the commitment to myself to stay vegan. I'm happy we both went vegan together.

Great episode girls! I totally agree with the having patience and trying to be nice method.. however I gotta admit I wasn't like that😂 When I met my boyfriend 6 years ago I was only vegetarian but I was very passionate about the topic and often got into confrontation with his family. He not always defended me and we got into many arguments. But for him, what totally changed his mind was also Gary Yourofsky! A couple years ago it was him who pushed us into finally cutting out the occasional dairy that we were having, he became very conscious about ingredients (we dont even buy anything with palm oil because of him, he looks at me weird whenever I want to buy a pack of oreos😂), but I totally appreciate it! It made me love him more. So yeah, I do think that patience is nice but sometimes we have to confront the other person so they will maybe analyze the situation differently. Hope we all can bring many to the "dark side"❤️❤️

Just found this channel and I love it! I feel like there's nothing else like this on youtube at the moment! :) My boyfriend has always been a massive meat eater before he met me and I've been vegetarian since I was fourteen years old and vegan for four years now. We've been together for 7 months and he's watched Cowspiracy and What the Health with me and sees the merit in the arguments but doesn't really end up changing his habits. He really wants to lose weight and I've tried to tell him going vegan is the way to go but he thinks he'll get fat from having too much sugar. But on the other hand he's taken friends out to vegan restaurants when I haven't been there and he eats vegan food when we go out to vegan restaurants so he's clearly open to the idea. He seems to be convinced with the documentaries then one week later he'll say he read how it was debunked and he still thinks meat is healthy. I really want him to go vegan cause I know he'll feel soo much better (especially because he is lactose intolerant and still eats dairy). But I don't know how to make the steps a lot smaller than mine. His family LOVES eating heaps of steak and seafood and I'm the kind of lazy vegan that eats migoreng noodles, toast, smoothies and bowls of fruit. So I'm hoping if I get into cooking (and do it well) then maybe he'll come around to it. I think I just needed to talk about it with other girls who understand the frustration of having a loved one that has different beliefs Xx

Thanks for the interesting video. Like you guys, my husband and I both ate meat when we started dating. A few years into our relationship we started watching a few documentaries and made the decision together to cut down our meat and dairy intake. Cowspiracy was the main motivator for both of us. We were always totally on the same page, which was awesome. We are now 100% vegan after a few years of 'mostly plant-based', triggered to go all-in by What the Health, and getting there was definitely a team effort.

Hi ladies! Love you guys. I actually grew up in farm long area in Michigan and we grew up eating just like everyone. My husband (whom I met in my early 20s, now 31) had a typical meat diet as well. I never liked red meat or pork because of the animals were so sweet. Fast foreword to getting healthy for baby one I ate a Whole Foods diet thinking it was the best and my toddler later needed organic full fat cows milk ect. Then I stumbled across the food babe and it started my journey towards vegetarian then plant based. My husband said my cooking was so good that he'd eat this way at home and only ate Omni when at work, a restaurant (which has vegan food on the menu at our local farmers market). He has since came over to the light side when ailments and my children's chronic allergies have pretty much disappeared.

I wouldn't throw a "but" into this unless I really wanted you guys to continue to improve (as I already think you have) but something you could try focusing on is your faces when you are listening to each other. Less RBF, furrowed brows, and bored looks when you listen to each other mainly. You are all obviously friends and when you do taste test videos you guys are all smiles all the time and that is easier to watch. Not to say that you can't show a negative or sad expression when you feel that way but sometimes it looks like you guys are glaring at each other when you are probably just thinking/listening. Something to keep in mind. Always look forward to seeing more videos.

I went vegan 4 months ago, and it completely changed my life. I don´t know why it took me so long, my family is totally cool with it, but honestly it´s been so hard with my non vegan husband who complains all the time that we no longer share the foods we used to love, that it´s always so difficult when it comes to go out to eat, and he always asks me when am I going back to eat meat again (and I´m like Never!! duh). It´s also been so difficult with his family, since I always have to brig my own food, and even my own wine, so they are always questioning me and challenging me (and they even make fun of me, which is not cool), it´s been really hard, but I have never felt so good in my life... So I don´t care!!!

Cecilia Bueso Do you mean plant-based rather than vegan?

Jason Lam Dude give her a little slack she's only been vegan for 4 months. She will get there and how do you know what she does and doesn't buy and use? Attacking people like this is not helpful. Educating is good but be cool about it.

I went vegan a year and a half ago after watching Forks Over Knives, and like Dani, I asked my girlfriend to watch documentaries with me just so she could understand and half way through Cowspiracy she made the decision to be vegan too!! It is so undeniable when you learn the truth I don't know how you could continue living a way that you know hurts the world.

This has been SO hard! I like to teach people, but at the same time, having someone in your life with the same values is SO important. Just like religion, etc, you want like minded people. I would never cook it for a spouse, my baby is vegan, I just don't support it, so I don't know if I could date a non vegan. I don't like when people are so closed off or joke about it. This is a core value... it has gotten really hard. I've questioned before if I am being too crazy, but I just don't know how it can work!

ive tried to date women who live a vegan lifestyle is pretty difficult. I personally don't mind how people eat.. but i do not like others to dictate to me how my lifestyle is.. I have great health i love animals and i go out of my way for health reasons and humane reasons to get mostly fish and grass feed meats and butter. I go to local ranches fish hunt etc- i EAT clean and my blood work shows it . To each is there own PEACE & LOVE and the best of luck for everyone! :)

I am so thankful for my husband. We developed in the same direction in the same time. We watched documentaries together, we listened to speeches from physicians and became vegan allies. We reduced meat radically and after one year we went vegan together 😍.
@sidilicious116 жыл бұрын
I was lucky that my boyfriend and I were already vegetarian at home so when I went vegan it wasn't so radical. I just quit buying cheese and eggs. And I do all the cooking, and he likes most vegetables and whole grains and loves salads. I never wanted to have to convince him and it's been a smooth transition. He doesn't call himself a vegan. On the rare occasion when we go out to eat he orders chicken. I don't bug him about it. He knows how I feel. But he's a grown adult and I don't give him a hard time. And most of the time he totally goes along with my vegan cooking.

I'm glad my husband went vegan, it took 10 months after me being vegan but i let him do it on his own time. I went vegan in January 2013 and then he went vegan in October 2013. When i went vegan he pretty much ate vegan majority of the time since he did all the cooking. We went vegan while dating so i blatantly told him i would not marry him if he weren't vegan. I made him watch documentaries with me and i shared a ton of info with him. Luckily it clicked in his mind that what we do to animals is wrong. He was very willing to understand more and i never really had to force it too much. It makes it so much easier since we will be raising our son and other future children vegan.

I was the catalyst for us beginning to transition, was always ruining both our nights with awful stories, and replacing all of our cruel crap with vegan and cruelty free stuff! But it was actually my husband who actually pushed us over the hump to veganism. We worked backwards in a way; beginning our transition with cruelty free products. However, researching cruelty free products led to learning the horrible truths of how humans exploit and torture the animals for so many other things. We had worked our way to vegetarianism, only eating cheese, but using all vegan and cruelty free products and had donated or given away all animal products like leather shoes, etc. We were on our way to the farmer's market where we normally bought cheese from a "humane" dairy....I know there is no such thing now of course! I had not gotten into the dairy or egg industry at this point. He said let's just stop with all the animal stuff and that was it, we were vegan. I then dove into dairy and egg industry as I looked for vegan replacements...added many horrific images to my bank of why I am vegan! On another note, our son moved out when he was 18 yo and one of the reasons was that we had gone vegan and would not allow animal products in the house. Anyway he is now vegan and has been for 5 years now, he has actually apologized for some of the not so nice things he said, and "did not say", about our decision to become vegan haha!

I just converted my ex boyfriend of 2 years into being vegan, slowly dropped little facts everywhere about veganism, pointed out other vegan men and gave him heaps of delicious food. He fell in love with vegan cooking and would cook vegan for me every night. He loved the experimentation and we would feed his kids vegan too it was fun for all of us and very healthy because at the end of the day if its all vegetables i guess even the burgers are salads ;P Anyways, I wouldn't date a man from this point onwards who didn't eat plant based the thought of kissing a meat mouth would just be like... I can't go back, I've been living my best life XD. It's a very important part of my life and I tend to only talk to vegan guys anyway. Thats just me. However, the new problem is that just because someone is a vegan doesn't mean I'm going to be attracted to them ad it gives me a smaller pool of people to connect with and find a true attraction in all aspects. ya feel? lol

LOVED this video!!! My boyfriend has never eaten meat (he just doesn't like it) he's vegetarian but will never say that. In his mind he just doesn't like meat. He loved when I went vegan because then he wasn't the only one getting asked what he eats all the time haha. You never realize how many animal products are at the dinner table until you stop eating them.

I have 3 ex boyfriends who after watching me go vegetarian then vegan all are aware/cut out some products/ are trying to go vegan/ say it just sounds healthier to eat vegan when they cook for themselves. So that's kinda worked for me leading by example. However I do share new information about veganism when I learn more. I am currently single and just make it aware upfront I am a vegan and animal lover. It seems to go okay. However none have made it to boyfriend level in years.

My boyfriend and I are Malaysians, but I’m a vegan since I was in my mom’s womb. When I got into a relationship with my boyfriend, Lucas. He shows that he’s doesn’t like vegan indirectly. You know.. Asian people are more likely close minded and we can’t get vegan food that easily and it’s expensive. So it’s hard to convince them. Also, whenever I talked about veganism, I’ll get emotional and aggressive, and this is my weaknesses, it’s hard for me to control my emotion and talk to him. But I do really hope they will understand what’s so important on vegan.

I was kind of surprised that no one brought up just letting your SO be and not try and convert them. My boyfriend eats everything including animal products but we cook together all the time and it's always vegan. I have no plans to convert him or make him watch documentaries. If he chose to be vegan that would be awesome but I'm not going to push him. I'll just keep making him amazing vegan food.
@xtinkerbellax37 жыл бұрын
I think that's fine for some people but with others there will come a point where it comes to a head, such as moving in together and not wanting animal products in the house or having kids and choosing how to raise them diet wise. I think some people are not willing to compromise on things like that.
@mollyepstein61637 жыл бұрын
I guess it's not a dealbreaker for me. We plan to move in together next year and while I don't love that there will be animal products in our fridge, I love him to pieces and it's a compromise I'm willing to make. I just won't spend my money on animal products.
@kirky93477 жыл бұрын
Molly Epstein as a vegan doesn’t it bother you that someone you love supports something so cruel? As vegans we have the duty to educate others and do our best to make change for the animals and for this planet. It is not about pushing our opinions on others but educating others so that they can understand the truth. We need people to go vegan for this planet to survive. It is also a health concern for loved ones. Don’t you want your SO to live a long life and fill their body with vitality instead of death? I think this is how a lot of people feel with their partners and that’s who they are making the video for.
@mollyepstein61637 жыл бұрын
I don't love it, but everyone is on their own journey. I don't see it as my duty to educate others, being vegan is a personal decision for me. He eats vegan about 80% of the time, so I'm not too concerned about his health, and even if I was, it's not up to me to make decisions for another adult. I appreciate and respect your perspective.

I love the story about the friwnd who asks if the boyfriend "even has a soul" - it's completely relatable because it's almost exactly how I would be. I'm single and a newbie-baby-vegan and honestly I'd rather stay single than be willing to kiss a mouth that's been consuming animals or their products! Being a Christian, I believe in no marriage = no sex and now being vegan I'm employing no vegan = no kiss 😘

But when does it come off as your trying to change someone when they don't want to make the change? I'm trying to transition myself to a vegan diet, but a part of me is held back by him and our families. I've been 95% plant based, but whenever it comes to family dinners, or him not being serious about it I crack! Its been two years and I don't think ill ever be able to convince him to be 100% there with me. (although he is very open and eats all my food, but when I'm not around he chooses the non vegan options)

Same, but.... with my parents. The problem is that I live with them and I’m underage. It’s not that I want to go vegan (I’ve just told them I want to go vegetarian and for them it’s bad enough) to their eyes, i’m just crazy. I’m out of my mind. Vegetarian? Yo’ll die. I explain them that i won’t. i can get protein from other sources. Eitherways,all I’m eating right now is crap. I’m soure I’ll be eating better and nourishing better my body.They don’t want to hear that. -“But... what about the animals? They.......” •I don’t mind. I don’t want to hear that. That won’t change anything. They are just excuses. I have hope. I have been INSISTING for 4 years i think, and thinking about it for 10 years!! They also say It’s very expensive, and they won’t stop eating animals. I’m not asking them to stop eating meat... if they can live with it....🤷🏻♀️ Because I can’t. For them, they are eating a lasagna. For me? There is the corpse of a pig that has lived a horrible live and they have artificially made a cow pregnant to then separate her from her baby and this one has followed the same steps or gone to the slaughterhouse. JUST FOR A LASAGNA that I won’t even enjoy!!!

I tried slowly convincing my last boyfriend to go vegan, try some food I made. But he would even try my vegan food. I wasn't pushing him not to eat meat or dairy but anything I had he already knew was vegan he wouldn't eat it. It felt pretty insulting especially bc he was lactose intolerant and he wasn't supposed to be eating any dairy but he made a point of not wanting anything I made. Needless to say we broke up. Now I don't want to date anyone unless they are okay with my lifestyle and at least want to try the food I make.

Does anyone have any advice for a SO with a really fast metabolism who struggles to get enough calories in on an omnivore diet anyway. One of his main arguments is that he would have to eat a huge volume of plant based food and he also really dislike things like tofu and lentils and most meat replacements. I know that his palate would change over time but how do you get past that initial phase?
@caitlin_thayer7 жыл бұрын
Find a vegan protein powder that tastes good to you(/your SO)! And consider Nisha's advice to keep fats in your meals. Fats have higher caloric density. You can do this with whole foods as well as some more indulgent meals with added oils (Nuts, seeds, hemp hearts, flax seeds, avacados, tahini). My husband has a high metabolism as well!
@HannahWeseloh7 жыл бұрын
Hey Helen! I kind of mentioned it but my bf is slim with a fast metabolism as well. He eats a ton of potatoes and he actually does really well on a high fat diet! I don’t, but it works for him. He also drinks a protein shake every day with banana and almond milk. There are a lot of great vegan guys who lift weights here on KZbin, might be worth showing him some of their videos of what they eat. Brian Turner and Vegan Gains come to mind, as well as vegan bros on insta.
@helenmcintosh99047 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice! It's tough when someone says they understand the logic behind veganism but isn't quite prepared to make changes that they see as being inconvenient for themselves. Can only hope to keep showing how easy it is and eventually it'll click!

i got married with my husband before being becoming vegan. He agrees with the vegan lifestyle and even thinks we should raise our future children as vegans but he doesn't become vegan.
