This is the 2nd time that I can welcome ‪@MarkWiens‬ and his family to my home in Chiang Mai - but this trip feels so different than the first!
Welcome everyone, to a week that is worth getting excited about!
This time, I feel much more at home here, and I feel infinitely better prepared to help this trip be all that it can be - hanging out with Mark, exploring all the FOOD and FUN that Northern Thailand's largest city has to offer.
Today, taking you to the far opposite ends of Chiang Mai's food spectrum, visiting first an amazing, wholesome, and ingenious creation of a restaurant - Meena "Rice Based Cuisine."
These ultra-healthy dishes, as well as being absolutely gorgeous to look at, are definitely worth the trip to visit San Kamphaeng. Although they are located well within the Chiang Mai city limits, you might never even know you were anywhere but the perfect green fields far off in the Northern Thai countryside.
This meal is truly amazing, and I hope you enjoy the look and feel of this amazing restaurant (which almost feels like eating in a delicious museum at times!), as well as the dishes we pick for today.
If you like this video, please come back for part 2 (again, the complete opposite end of Chiang Mai's food spectrum... trust me, its a fun one). Much love to everyone today, thanks for watching, for joining us - have a wonderful day!
-Joel

Coopdog, I love it, thank you for noticing :). Actually when I was growing up, aside from my school friends, when I was at home I spent at least a small part of every single day hanging out with the guys guarding our gate in Kenya. We lived on a compound (very normal for Nairobi, where break-ins are extremely common), and I always miss hanging out with those guys. Youre right, it is a hard and usually thankless job, I am very happy youve noticed this today :). God bless!

37.1 should be normal. When my surgery patient S get to 39+ we have to call the surgeons and do lots of tests. I’ve cared for open heart patients for almost 30 years. Love, love, love being a nurse. Lost a patient this week but know she is now a guardian angel for us all. Please always enjoy life the way you do and love humanity. Hope you don’t hate me because I really hate spicy foods. Grew up on more cheap foods like creamed meats and vegetables. I grew up in the highest point in the Appalachian mountains. Heavy foods that were cheap and kept your tummy full and warm. Never knew when you would be without power for a week or more at a time. I was one of those happy kids that had many snow days off in the almost 7-9 months of cold weather.

Awesome, thank you! Lewis thats a great message. Where did you visit when you were here? Happy to see you know about Thailand, and yes the countryside here.... SO thankful that its changing slowly, at least there are still many things that (probably) wont ever change here, least of all is the CHILL and calm spirit that Thai people seem to do so well :). Have a good one today, big high five across the ocean from Thailand to UK!!

Oh Joel! This place is gorgeous and serene. I live in the Mojave desert in Southern California and I can imagine staying here for a day or two or longer if they have accommodations. This is paradise!!! 💚💚💚 I love how rustic it is. The food looks amazing and that rice...whoa. the most colorful layers of yumminess!!!

Joel , I had an idea from watching you hand a durian to the guard , and to see how happy both of them were . The idea is maybe you and Mark and maybe some other known KZbin celebrities in Thailand could make some food for a local hospital and provide it for the staff ? One video you could have both you and mark making the food then a part 2 dishing it all out ? Of course in a Covid safe manner. What do you think ? I definitely think it’ll get lots of views , especially if you put it on both channels.
@JoelsTastyRide
@JoelsTastyRide 4 жыл бұрын
That is awesome :-) hey thank you for your other message as well, I did it, I appreciate the support. I also appreciate the idea!! I won’t go into detail but I can tell you honestly man, the amount of different ideas like this that Mark pays for it with his own money is gigantic. I’m his best friend and I don’t even know how much he does. He is more generous than anybody ever knows. And that is why he is the best
@indyw4304

Joel Bruner of course , no doubting both of you are gigantic in what you do, it comes across that both of you do lots for the community. I think it’ll be great for both your subscribers to see you both at work doing some awesome community stuff and allow us to see people enjoying what you do, if that makes sense ? It’s like when watching you give that durian to the guards , it’s heart warming , and watching Mark go to rural communities and give us an insight to others and we get to see them having a good time with Mark and share their life with Mark , it’s heart warming , if you know what I mean ?

another great video but i was confused with the five colour rice you mentioned that they were all natural so i was thinking that thats the way the rice looked but when i seen butterfly pea and saffron I thought wait those are natural dies with flavour . So my question is was the colours of the rice that way from harvest or did they just use peaflower and saffron to die them during cooking
@JoelsTastyRide
@JoelsTastyRide 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Yetti :). Always appreciate your questions, thanks for taking the time to watch closely! So with the rice, yes the colors are all-natural colors, and here they are used in 2 of these 5 rices. The yellow safflower imparts a little bit of aroma, and the butterfly pea (maybe someone else can taste it, but I cant) is just for the beautiful color. Yes, they get the color during the cooking, but the cream, brown, and black are like that from when the rice is harvested.

Today a friend shared some of her Bananas from the Banana tree she has at her other home in Texas. I’m not much of a banana person. But as my mom said when she shared the banana with me “ I could eat my weight in those bananas” they taste nothing like the ones you get at the supermarket. They taste sweet, creamy and don’t have that aftertaste that every banana I’ve had up until today has had. I could eat one of those bananas every day. Thank you for sharing your food journeys and showing that there are so many varieties of fruits and to be willing to try new things. I tried something new today and loved it! God bless Joel 😁

I love it, really, thank you so much :-) you are so right about the variety of bananas, I hope you do someday have a chance to visit and extremely tropical climate, you can see some pretty incredible colors in bananas, in Thailand I have even had a purple banana! And it had seeds too!! Have a wonderful day today Mary, thank you again for the great long comment today. Have a beautiful day, I hope it is full of fruit :-) God bless. All the best :-)
