I live in LA County and discovered mangosteen at an Asian Night market they usually have it imported here in the summers. It’s my favorite fruit and so so good. It’s so expensive here, usually $5-$8/lb. I usually treat myself and some friends to some every summer. I hope to travel to Thailand one day and explore this beautiful country and try all of the amazing fruit and vegetables!

What parts of the US have you been in? I’m from the Appalachian mountains. I grew up near the highest point called back bone mountain. Up above the clouds with snows that no one could ever believe. I could because my dad plowed that snow on that mountain for 40 years. He would take us out on bad nights to help or just keep him awake cause he would work more than 24 hours in a row. Just as you see majesty in the Forest I saw it in that crisp new snow. Even if the power was out for more than a week at a time, we always had warmth, food, and love.we never needed for all those fancy things in life. Watching you so enjoy even a beautiful sunrise or set, brings me back to those wonderful simple times. I think I connect with you because you remind me so much of the wonderful awww of life we found as youngsters. Of all the great lessons learned and taught to respect our elders no matter what. I went into nursing 28 years ago after being a volunteer EMT for 12 years in a very small tight knit community that included Amish people. You had to know how to respect people. I so hate that kids these days have no respect. I blame the parents. I just cringe when anyone says I want my children to have better than I did. What was so wrong with what we had. I had chores, respect my elders, and got my ass whooped if I didn’t. And that wasn’t even by my parents cause I used to stay on my cousins farm in the summers. Sorry to blabber on you just gave me some wonderful memories and some thoughts of how kids these days need sent off to be taught those lessons. Thank you for sharing a small piece of your world. Stay pure and may God always bless you for the wonderful joy you bring to others!

What an awesome post. I really MISS eating durians and mangosteens living in Canada. Both are super expensive if you can FIND them. This post brings back so many happy delicious memories growing up in Penang, Malaysia. Sadly NONE of my current circle of friends eat durians and are turned off by the smell. I usually end up eating it by myself in a park, which attracts racoons who are my dining buddies. I would LOVE to treat you guys when I visit Thailand again after this pandemic. Thanks for this post, I will join you guys in spirit... Cheers

I think Thais responded more maturely to the virus and restrictions than some other countries in the West and the fact we can open up without sparking an outbreak is a relief. As far as durian goes, I have lived in Asia since 2012, several girlfriends and acquaintances like durian but I have thus far not tried it. My biggest challenge to date was Indonesian Eyeball Soup.
