Hi Madeleine, despite being an avid youtuber watcher for years now I think this is actually the first comment I've ever left on a video. I'm not sure if you'll see this, but on the off chance you do I just wanted to say how much you have helped me over the past year. I bought your e-book and have pre-ordered your new one. I love how accessible your recipes are, I've never yet found someone who makes vegan recipes that aren't super fancy and uses exotic ingredients except for you. I was veggie for years, then dairy free for a year or so, but finding your channel helped me take the plunge into cruelty-free eating because I was able to learn so much from you about how to cook easily and cheaply as a vegan. Also, your disclaimers around disordered eating are an absolute breath of fresh air. I used to stress so much about food because every recipe online is calorie counted and tells you how many portions it is. Hearing someone say, simply, that everyone's appetites are different, eat consciously but eat til you're full, and all that other good stuff you promote, I honestly think it saved me. Especially as a fellow tall girl I used to always feel self conscious about how much I ate, despite never really being overweight. I'd never even considered that hey maybe my body is bigger so I need more fuel. Anyway I've rambled, but I've been wanting to say this for a while now. So thank you for all you do, you help me so much. Peace and love

Frankly, it isn't cheap, buying food. After the pandemic, lots of foods became more expensive due to transportation. It's hard for me, a single person to not spend around $100 for a few bags of groceries. So I can't judge the two of you for what you spent. :D
@misspeaches11443 жыл бұрын
Buying as a single person can actually be more expensive than buying for a couple or a family, because you don’t go through stuff quick enough to justify buying the bigger value pack and end up paying more for the same amount, so shopping for one or two people is about the same cost from my experience
@bangturden70703 жыл бұрын
brexit won't make it cheaper, either :-/ greetings from austria

Actually coming from a different country and going back home 2x a year I can tell you that food in England is cheap!! I'm always so shocked how expensive food is in my country.People in Austria earn 3x as much as people in Slovakia and yet it's cheaper to shop there.but it is what it is. The only thing I find is that buying vegan food is very expensive (I'm not talking about fruit and veg.)and I feel that people with allergies or different dietary preferences have to pay more.

Love this video! Always a fan of your budget videos and it great to see a shop where because you have the means you spend you £ intentionally and with purpose with who you support. This is usually how I try to shop, weekly riverford box, refill store and the local small businesses, due to the pandemic and lockdowns ive had to close my business, I'm just making ends meet if the lockdown is extended I fear we may be at the food bank. I've been feeling awful for not supporting other people in the way i would like but you reminded me that sometimes you just don't have the means to do so and that's ok. You're videos always calm me and help me see that doing you lr best at the time is OK. Thank you xx

Oh wow please do not beat yourself up at all for not being able to support local business if you have been through everything you have been through! The onus is not on us to change the food systems. Yes we can do our bit, but honestly those with money are usually the ones who are causing the most harm. If you’re struggling the last thing you need to be thinking about is your food footprint or reducing waste etc. Your priority is taking care of you! This is not your responsibility. Completely off the “shopping” topic, I’ve been struggling with my mental health and your videos lift me up.... so, I’m re-watching your videos from the beginning. Organic farming is a debatable topic. I do agree with you that is more environmentally friendly in the pesticide, herbicide area but they do still use them, it's not like they ditch it all together and only use manure, compost and so on. You definitely need to check UK's guidelines to organic farming as the amounts of pesticides are different in every country, but it definitely doesn't mean they are ditching it all together. Also they usefar more land than conventional farming in order to make comparable amounts since the land isn't as productive. And there is loads of more aspects to it, I am actually studying agronomy so I know a few bits about it. I am not suggesting you should stop buying organic, definitely not, just be mindful and know it's not all that great and sometimes paying such a higher price just isn't worth it.

About the rude comments: people tend to forget that you also have to include staples in your shopping. Also, you're in lockdown, you're going to get food for everyday and a treat to break the monotony. Everybody does it and nobody should make anyone feel bad for doing so. With that said, LOVED the grocery haul. Unfortunately, I am in the Appalachian region and some of these things are not available to me but it is good to know that there are a lot more companies willing to go organic, ethical, and sustainable. Looking forward to more videos supporting local shops.

Me to I always get carried away shopping in those shops and when I have to pay my husband is like 😳 😂.... I've been shopping locally for so long, and it's great because you get to know the owners and its like creating a great community ❤️

Enjoyed this! I too feel like a kid in the candy shop/ Harry Potter when at the Natural food shoppes.

Gosh do so good to see the two of u. U did really good in shopping. Do u still make videos on ur other channel? Love u both. I was vegan for 8 months and now I do vegan/ vegetarian. Depends on what meal I eat. U have inspired me to eat healthier and I will be vegan one day.

I can do relate to your way of shopping 😁 if I haven't been out in a while, I'll just go for it! It's just the way us foodies are 😂xxxxxxx

I love this video!! It's so important to try support small local business where you can. It can definitely add up, but I know where I am it's actually cheaper a lot of the time to buy fresh produce local. Amazing to see all the cool things you found! Congrats on the eBook as well, so excited for it to be released.

You shouldn't feel guilty or be shamed for how much you've spent or bought. That's what I keep telling myself too, everything got more expensive, plus we can't go outside whenever we want, of course we'll spend more in one trip. I hope you'll get through this lockdown safely. 🤗
