Leche flan is the Filipino version of crème caramel. I’ve found a way to make leche flan completely vegan. It tastes just as rich and silky smooth as the original, but without the added cholesterol! Not only is this non-dairy and egg-free, but it is also free from gelatin. (Yes, gelatin is not vegan).

There are almost no leche flan recipes, so thank you for this! My friend recommended it to me a couple years ago and I'm finally about to make it! Do you have any notes about differences from the non-vegan version? I went vegan before I could try it, so if you have any thoughts I'd love to hear them! Oh, and this video is very well done! Love the way you filmed it, and the editing and music really give it the feel I think you were going for! :)

Can use different vegan milks and at different proportions? Particular reason 50% of soy and coconut milks?

Can I use erythritol or monfruit sugar

You can try to use those sweeteners for the flan itself. Just keep in mind that I have not tested this recipe with sugar substitutes, so it might or might not affect the texture. Unfortunately, monk fruit and erythritol do not caramelize as real sugar does. So it will difficult to create the hard caramel for the flan.

Vegan milk is healthy,,, but white sugar?? 😲 omg! Not good.. better to use 0 calorie sweetener..

Hi there! So my recipes are not meant to be "healthy". I made these recipes for those who are vegan/plant-based/those who have dietary restrictions to dairy or eggs. You can most certainly use 0 calorie sweeteners if you choose, but I think that we can both agree that we should have a healthy and balanced lifestyle. That means treating ourselves to a nice dessert every once in awhile! 😄

How is it healthy to use a sugar that your body has no enzymes to break down? 😳 it’s better to use simple sugars if you’re trying to be healthy; that gives your body energy it needs & it can break it down into usable energy.
