Jackfruit in brine can be found in any asian food store. Not hard at all to find. Pretty clever to take young jack fruit for pulled pork. I grew up eating the organic fresh version right from the trees in Sri Lanka. Now it has become pulled pork! What a great world!!

We make this faux pulled pork all the time and it's fabulous! One thing we do that's different is that we spread it out on a baking pan (at the point where you loaded it onto the buns) and bake it to get it a bit crispier.

so since the jackfruit that you used came in a can, does that make the smell reduced since there is some of the fruit missing, or is the flesh from the can stinky as well?
@tamcon727 жыл бұрын
Are you thinking of durian? Jackfruit isn't really stinky. When ripe, it tastes like Juicy Fruit gum; apparently it was the inspiration for the flavor of the gum. The Happy Pear lads are using the unripe jackfruit commonly sold tinned, which has a very faint taste of lettuce and no real smell. Sometimes it can taste a bit tinny, if cheaply canned, but that's as stinky as it gets.
@mjs28s7 жыл бұрын
I was sort of thinking of durian so I did a little research on the jack fruit as well and some of the articles about it are that it smells of gum and onions. Thanks for clarifying with "The Happy Pear lads are using the unripe jackfruit commonly sold tinned, which has a very faint taste of lettuce and no real smell." Sounds like the BBQ sauce will easily add the right flavors. The gum and old onions that is out there regarding the smell of fresh jackfruit had me a bit alarmed as to how BBQ sauce would cover that up. Thanks and keep up the great vids!

It's a must try! You got to try anything at least once! #yoloswag I've had this kind of dish at a vegan restaurant and at home. I've also made a Thai curry with jackfruit too. However, I found it to be a bit rich/sickly if the portion size is too large. Although the ingredients I used for the sauce varied a bit. I would also recommend trying the jackfruit alone in syrup, not in brine to experience the fruit (based on my location). ** Jackfruit is the largest fruit in the world which makes it hard to export it in its wholesome form **

you guys are doing a great job. However, vegan food has its own identity and character we do not need to borrow names from meat eaters. Pork is not the word to use here.
@mikekuppen62567 жыл бұрын
... or maybe it is, because this is an imitation of a non-vegan dish. Make up a name at random and nobody will know what the video is about.
@hannahplas24957 жыл бұрын
Antoine Haddad yeah, but you can call it something like "pulled BBQ jackfruit" and make a reference to pork. But you just can't call pork vegan. It is meat. That is not vegan. And if you call a recipe vegan, it can't contain pork. Even in the name.
