Not really. If you are gonna use that argument the book of Genesis debunks that when God says that animals were put on this earth to serve us. I wouldn’t use that argument as a vegan. I would go with everything else. In the book, we are allowed to eat animals. That’s what they were put here for according to the Bible. However, it does encourage us to realize that you shouldn’t needlessly harm animals. If you absolutely don’t need animals then there is no reason to kill one for food , if you can avoid it. In this case, I would say yes. The world can, absolutely, cut their use of meat and fish down. It would be a good idea too because it would conserve a lot of resources. There is also a verse in the Bible that tells us to remember that just like animals we leave this earth the same way, so never tell yourself that you are better than them. So, it does say that animals are here to serve us, but it also encourages us not to take advantage. You know what I mean?

@@Ethan-ck6iz The whole point is that we don't need milk or "other materials" produced from cows. It's unhealthy, cruel and wasteful to continue to demand these products. Do you really think that all the waste that livestock produces is used for fertilizer? Are you aware of all the lagoons of waste that these animals produce? Are you aware that these lagoons overflow and contaminate our water? Or that people have fallen into them and died? There is more poop than we know what to do with. In some states, in order to get rid of all the poop, it is misted into the air causing all the nearby residents to have serious health problems like cancer and respiratory problems.

Why is is wasteful if we consume it? Can't just keep planting soybeans over and over again to make substitutes. Everybody in my family drank lots of milk when they were little and never broke anything... Except for my little brother who didn't and he broke an arm by tripping over a sandbox. A sandbox! And I took a beating when I was little. I fell down through a hole in a barn to the ground floor And yes, I am aware of the waste these animals produce. I work on a dairy farm here in Ontario every day. And also, I have never seen or heard of a lagoon overflowing. And before you say it, in my area, it is law for the lagoons to have a cement "casing" And yes, we use all of the manure, plus other fertilizer. Every year we suck the pit completely dry and spread all of the manure without issue. The only manure lagoon/pit that I've ever heard overflow is a sewage pit. Toilet paper and all. But I'm sure you'll still cowardly blame the problem on people you don't have to talk to. Anybody who falls into the pit is doing something wrong. There's a fence around all of them in my area. I have never heard of the manure being misted into the air. Sounds like a waste. And I do know lots and lots of people in my rural area and not one complains about the smell. Not one falls ill because of the smell. I live right next to multiple farms; turkey, pig, dairy, you name it. And I never smell anything. Nobody does. It is not a problem.
@TinaTastic36 жыл бұрын
It’s wasteful because IT TAKES 16 KG OF PLANTS TO MAKE 1 KG OF MEAT. Seriously, how many times does that need to be said for people to understand it? 16 kg of plants can feed more people for a longer period of time than 1 kg of meat can. You realize that over 90% of the soybeans currently grown are fed to cattle, right? That means less than 10% of those crops are used to feed human beings. We’re already planting tons of soybeans to feed cattle; why can’t we use it to make substitutes? And who said all we needed was soybean substitutes anyway? So you think that because your family members drank milk and never broke any bones means that milk is healthy for you? There are tons of chain smokers out in the world that live to be 80+ years old. Does that mean chain smoking is healthy? Your way of thinking is antiquated. Research a scientific paper for crying out loud! There is no evidence that dairy is good for bone strength. In fact, it’s the opposite! You are living in a bubble if you think that because you haven’t heard of something, it can’t be true. While there very well may be laws in your area to contain lagoons, that doesn’t mean those laws exist elsewhere. Have you heard of the hog industry in North Carolina? Billions of gallons of waste is produced annually and when their cesspool lagoons reach capacity, the poop is sprayed into the atmosphere 200 feet away from people’s homes. Just because lagoons aren’t a problem for you, doesn’t mean they are not a problem for people across the country. Do you read the news? All of North Carolina’s manure lagoons are currently overflowing after Hurricane Florence, which will bring in a host of health problems for the people. If most of the population were vegan, this wouldn’t be a problem. Get online and Google some scientific papers, man. Educate yourself!
@Ethan-ck6iz6 жыл бұрын
So what scientific paper did you read to find out that it takes 16kg of plants to create 1kg of meat? And yes, we could create substitutes with the soybeans but the problem is you cannot just keep growing soybeans over and over again. You have to rotate crops. In my area it's primarily alternating soybeans and corn, and sometimes wheat. I do not think that people could eat enough corn. Another issue is that farmers would have to purchase another extremely expensive piece of machinery, known as the sweet corn harvester.... There are two types of corn. There is the corn which is fed to the cows and it is hard... Proper corn, and then there is sweet corn which is chewable. This part I'm unsure about, because I was looking online to convert everything and find statistics and stuff. But here I go. One cow produces around 21 tons of manure per year, which dramatically helps the growth of the crops they eat. A Dairy cow can eat around 18 tons of feed per year. they also produce around 10 tons of milk per year. And ontop of that, the meat. So is there really an issue? North Carolina is one out of 50 states. You know how close manure is spread to my home? 40 feet. And there is no problem! Of course North Carolina's lagoons are overflowing... because of a hurricane. Nothing you can do about that. I'm sure it happened to every sewage treatment plant nearby too.

She also made undeniable arguments about the unreality of veganism because consuming plants have direct effects to animals and Ed can only agree with it. The point here is that there is no such thing as real veganism, plants and animals are interlinked to each other you can't say you're avoiding animal products or you're not affecting animal life in general just because you're consuming solely plant products because it's impossible.

Why is no one talking about how unproffesional this interviewer was. She didn't let Ed interrupt (which, he tried not to most of the time) but when Ed was making a good point against what she was saying, she interrupted him more than a few times. This is why Ed had to, the few times he did, interrupt to speak and educate. When debating with someone, its only to fair to not inturupt what the other party is saying. Another thing is the interviewer was just trying to 'win' the debate, where Ed was actually trying to educate her and the viewers.

@Kat To a degree yes, but also not really. The conservative framework for viewing the world has not really changed much in the past 60+ years. They still don’t really accept gay people or ESPECIALLY trans people for example while liberals have evolved a lot when it comes to identity politics and culture war issues. Liberals are much more able to adapt with the times in many regards and address emergent issues as they come, whereas conservatives are stuck in the 1950’s in terms of their ideals. I’ll agree that libs are pretty dogmatically pro capitalist even though they know it’s flawed, they think it just needs to be reeled in a little bit and aren’t usually willing to challenge their preconceptions there but overall they tend to be much more open minded. I think with politics it’s good to be like a scientist. You have to do research and come up with hypothesis and test these against other ideas to kind of figure out the best path. Most leftists were not born that way like conservatives are. Most were born into pretty status quo households but it took lots of education and deprogramming to move onto pursuing more ethical frameworks and systems. Once you get to a certain point you have to be able to assert why your ideology is better, without turning so dogmatic that you blind yourself to the faults/bad ideas of some of the worst aspects of your own community. Many people take up politics as an extension of identity or religious thinking. It becomes tribalistic or college/sports like, when it should just be pursuit of that which provides the maximum amount of good and human happiness regardless of your previous biases

As made clear in the interview much of the land today growing cereal grains to feed livestock is not suitable land to grow other options. All land is not created equal. Unless you're suggesting vegans can survive solely on corn and soybeans like cattle do..? Which I don't think any vegans only eat those two options. I'm a vegan since my childhood and i was very sensitive towards animals. one day my friend asked me why I don't eat meat as your family members are non vegetarians. I simply said because I love animals that's why I can't eat them as i love my parents and i will never hurt them in anyway. Being vegan i feel myself more human.
@davidcambrosio6 жыл бұрын
OMG...did she say Veganism is a developed world luxury!!! She talks about history, but clearly she doesn't know her history. Poor cultures never were able to eat meat historically.

@Max Gron bruh what? Vegans can still be assholes. Hes selfish or justified idk, in not lending his guitar but that has nothing to do with him being vegan? Like next time you shout at someone im gonna call all meat eaters unstomachable and assholes. Lol no.

StickMan0k And what about them? I’m not sure how that question relates to developed and and underdeveloped countries eating habits/privilege in civilized/industrialized society?
@davidcambrosio5 жыл бұрын
Undarl Mexican, Eastern European and basically all peasants and people who were not the most wealthy or royalty in all cultures. Their diets were mainly vegetable and grain based.
@davidcambrosio5 жыл бұрын
Undarl doesn’t sound like a back pedal to me, but you’re entitled to your opinion. I can tell you one thing about the world that you and I live in now.....while those like us who are privileged to have the choice to essentially eat what ever we want, there are more underprivileged people who are starving to death because the privileged are using those crops and it’s land to feed the livestock to gorge and excessively eat only the finest cuts at the cheapest price. Not even out of necessity, but just because we like it. Before it was the few wealthy and the nobility, but now it’s all in the developed nations. So getting back on point to my original rebuttal of the woman in the Video saying a vegan lifestyle is for the privileged, it is just the opposite. While typical of our society to capitalize on what is “in” now (aka Vegan restaurants and fancy processed vegan food) the bottom line is choosing a plant based diet is not only the compassionate choice for the animals but also our fellow human beings on the planet. Especially when you consider that the underprivileged also are the ones to suffer from the environmental damage done by the developed worlds excessive use of animal agriculture. It is the “choice” to be carnivorous in the present that is a privilege, and definitely not the other way around. I love animal products as much as anyone, but you just have to do your research to see what the “privileged” choice is...
@davidcambrosio5 жыл бұрын
Undarl to me that is not a sensible argument on many levels but again ur entitled to ur opinions.. And actually I’m not the one who was whining, it was the woman on the video who claimed that the idea of choosing to eat a plant based diet is a developed world privilege...which it is just the opposite. Also to say that we shouldn’t change the things that we have complete control over just because some of the same things are used for things that we don’t have as much control over(even though we should be trying to change those things too, which those who have adopted the mindset of non exploitation, empathy and compassion would be more inclined to do) doesn’t make sense. This notion that it’s pervasive in our culture so why bother to try changing any of it is the reason the planet is in the state that it is in. So the guy that drives an electric car but chooses to fly on plane that uses fossil fuels bc it’s his only choice if he wants to fly is also a hypocrite and should just not care and just buy the cheaper easier to deal with gasoline car?? Animals and animal projects used in most of our everyday products are mostly only economically viable because animals are slaughtered on such a mass scale for food and their byproducts are available as a cheap alternatives to more sustainable ethical choices. And even animals that are used for testing is something that is only considered acceptable because we are a society that doesn’t value life equally and creates economic hierarchies based on the same mentality that allows us to exploit other living beings when it’s absolutely not necessary or because we just want to.

I lost it at two points- 1) that 2) when she suddenly brought up abortion
@koalsa41205 жыл бұрын
@Undarl Abortion in this context of the video was not relevant. The reporter had suddenly spurred up the topic. She failed to do her job as a journalist/interviewer. The main argument was, "Is it sustainable to be vegan?" I apologize, but your argument has no context here. People who are vegan or plant-based are not liars, nor hypocrites. It is simply a matter of opinion. To be quite frank and remind you, someone may be vegan but still have various viewpoints on other stances.
@koalsa41205 жыл бұрын
Undarl Veganism, in its rawest definition, means to not directly or intentionally contribute or advocate for the use of animal products nor their exploitation. Vegans do, for the majority, eat an entire plant-based diet. They do not, to the best of their capability, buy products (ex. body wellness, furniture, clothes) that contain to animal product nor contribute to their suffering. They, for the most part, refuse to participate or support the industries in which exploit animals for entertainment and enslavement. Veganism is about the stuff that we can control. The stuff that we can change. The stuff that we can do. Not about the stuff that we can’t do. It’s much less about things like buying that come with tires- that is *not* something we can control. Because that - an industry that has become ingrained into the system - is not something we can control. What we can do is expose that industry. Reveal the horrors and atrocities that happen in order for people to eat what they want, wear what they want, and do what they want. We have that power to create an audience and show them the truth. With that truth - with that power - we can change the system. So that way, veganism won’t be so hard. So, your argument is invalid. Veganism isn’t about being 100%. What “we do” that makes us not entirely vegan. It’s about doing what we can do now.
@koalsa41205 жыл бұрын
Undarl I do ask that you sit on that. Instead of trying to rebuttal. You’ll be amazed at what new information may start coming your way.

I have to admit, I was a vegan hater and a hardcore conservative. I lost some of my friends due to my violent perspective and conservatism-driven hatred for those people who want to change the "status quo". Until I learned through experience and not through Ben Shapiro's opinions that animals really have consciousness, emotions, and feelings. They really have and science also tells that they do have. They can feel fear, anxiety, and helplessness- similar to what I just recently experienced. Maybe some of you will laugh at me but I can relate to these animals who are always subjected to cruelty and abuse. I know the feeling of being hopeless and helpless- that no matter how weak and melancholic you already look, no one is there to listen to you, to save you, and to help you. I know the feeling, and animals do also feel those. They may not be able to speak the human language, but they are conscious and have emotions. Thank you for letting me share this and to those who think that I am ridiculous, god forbid you won't experience all the things that I experienced and witnessed that pushed me to change my overall perspective in life.

Beautifully put. I'm actually of the opinion that human beings are not really very fundamentally different from other species. Rather, I think human civilization has evolved and that creates the illusion of humanity having a sort of superiorIty when all we are is an advanced society of social primates who dresses up and gives themselves airs. I just thought of this today and it made me really curious to investigate the factors which influence a young human's development into a functional member of society and try to copy those factors in raising a number of different animals from babyhood. Basically provide human parenting for infants of other species and see how civilized and "intelligent" they will turn out. Also I'll have them as my family even if they don't prove that people aren't superior to other animals as I hope they will.

The truth about the virtue signalling of cancel culture. One way of attempting to elevate your reputation is to claim unearned moral virtue, and so a huge part of what makes the woke nonsense that insists that the mere reflexive act of feeling sorry for someone or something constitutes a moral virtue os an attempt to claim a reputation status without any of the effort required to be a genuinely good person. To be a good person you have to be productive and generous. Nothing but diligent upward oriented work over the course of years puts you in that position.

@Ratikant Sharma I get everything vegans have to fight for but some of the things you do is ridiculous I get animals shouldn't suffer and from a vegans point no animal should die needlessly but there are insects that most vegans kill on a daily basis without knowing I know it sounds stupid but some insects have a nervous system and probably can feel empathy and sadness all the things that come with a brain which some insects do have and harvesting crops insects die ie when fields are plowed they die through people driving cars from and the polution from them and planes, reforestation which you will use something which a animal died for no good reason i bet there are more innocent creatures that die for no reason but from a vegan there is no mention of that, all life should be precious in my eyes. i dont eat meat as a luxury like most do I have very little meat in my diet, from my point of view it looks like vegan are mostly rich kids but I could be wrong on that. Ps I don't want to get into another online debate it's my opinion and I know yours I respect it i wasn't saying meat eaters don't repeat themselves I would be wrong do you get me now as my name is thetruth I like to know both sides of every argument. But we do come from this earth as the animals do we all evolved some kill some don't who has the right to say what anybody or anything does is right or wrong your faith may decide or you might be blind but what I say is who has right and who doesn't are we all not eqaul to ourselves?

@@sabrinasegal4518 Where, exactly, does Ed say we should live exclusively off of corn and soy? I've never heard him say that. Plus, the negative health effects you may find from these are from genetically modified versions saturated with glyphosphate, to which I'll say that Ed has explicitly said that the soy people eat in his country is organic and from Europe (not from the Amazon like a lot of mainstream media outlets seem to assume), which would negate any claim that he's promoting a food that is inherently unhealthy. I'm not insinuating that that's what you're claiming, but your comment seems to imply that corn and soy are inherently unhealthy, and/or that Ed suggests people live off them exclusively. But anyway, you've made a positive claim, so the burden of proof is on you.

Major respect my dude. Handled yourself like a champ. Didn't have to yell or engage in any adhominems or strawmen. You actually even agreed with many of her points but came to a different conclusion based on different morals and even additional evidence she hadn't factored in. This is why I love many vegans because they are used to being the minority opinion, they are used to having most people disagreeing with them and living a different lifestyle and YOUR calm and charismatic approach is how you gain coverts or at the very least sympathizers. It was very obvious that you are not insecure or uninformed in your beliefs based on how you handled yourself. Those who yell, engage in adhominems and strawmen and red herrings are typically insecure and uninformed of their position. Bravo
