Does scuba diving make you a snob?

I agree there are a few snobs out there ….maybe things came easy, family owned a dive shop or they just came from money, some are insecure and they need to project that. For the most part the “silent “ majority are just regular people just trying to get some dives in have a great time.

someone who has driven cars for years, and is really skilled at it, doesnt want to ride around with people who have only just passed their test. Same applies to diving.

I do think or suspect that they're just not as confident as they can be, shying away from other people and are hesitant to be in leadership positions. Likely it's also a proficiency issue, on their part. Who's to say their habits aren't up to par when there's nobody to opine or scrutinize their maybe less than optimal habits? Without a dive master or instructor, how will they get better and improve their skills? Not that a newbie should recklessly go diving beyond their capabilities and certifications just to hang out with the "pros," so it's a matter of properly weighing ⚖️ that buddy weight belt. So maybe they just don't want to deal with that uncertainty, being set in their ways. Its just that the intro to scuba diving mantra that i went into and ingrained in me early on is to dive always dive with a buddy or at least it's best to dive with a buddy, and where you're both capable and invested in each other's thriving and surviving from nein to dive!

Depends on who is doing it. I know of one young lady. She posts videos advertising on Patreon. She gets these young men to basically pay her way. One video she claimed to only have $10 or so in an account. 2 weeks later, She's in Mexico for a month. She tells people she is "Religious". Then post provocative videos.

Nah most divers are cool, but rock climbers though..
