Time for Part 2 of the series we started last week on metabolic slowdown! In Part 1 I told you about the new cause of metabolic slowdown that was recently discovered, and today I’m bringing you studies with solutions. There are hardly any that have been discovered yet, so this list is pretty exhaustive. (Study links below)

It’s pretty difficult to afford conventional veggies where I live, let alone organic. I do grow some veggies, mainly lettuce and silver beet, but any others are really difficult to grow. We suffer from temperature fluctuations which cause bolting in so many types of vegetables. But I am very nearly vegan. Thanks for your channel; it’s really interesting.

Can you elaborate on the pesticides in animal meat please? Indeed, animals eat a lot of pesticides, but that is not by itself enough to prove that they retain all of them. What does science say about the amount of pesticides per gram of protein in meat vs milk vs protein veggies like chickpeas

I've seen farmers who plant in a secondary crop like type of grass such as triticale, inside of corn already growing corn. This crowds out weeds. Tritcale will be shorter than the corn at that point and it apparently doesn't steal resources like water and nutrients from the corn, the primary crop. I believe they can even get a secondary harvest on the triticale. I don't know how this would be done in home farming.

I just found you and love your research-based information. I started A very strict 100% WFPB no SOS diet 9 months ago and nearly everything is wonderful in every way. I had a recent blood test which indicated Hypothyroidism. I have no symptoms and was interested in your pesticides in blood info. I'm also wondering if I could be low on iodine because of no iodized salt, and very low sodium diet although I eat some nori and dulse sea vegetables and my sodium levels are normal and unchanged in years. Please post more information when available on Hypothyroidism. Thanks, I love and appreciate your research. @6:20 the study you posted refers to great lakes fish. It doesn't say anything about salt water fish? Also the great lakes region has many PCB chemicals from companies like Du Point and Scotchguard etc that dumped PCBs into the great lakes in the 60s,70s,80s, and into the 90s I think. Fresh water fish from the great lakes should totally be avoided, but what about salt water fish?

I track my calories consistently over long periods and noticed that I can easily overeat by 400 calories and maintain weight. Above that and I start to gain. I eat a whole food-plant based diet. It is possible there is some errors in the nutrition information for the foods, plus I am one person and to get the most accurate information there'd need to be lot more in study. This video is very useful. I looked at all the foods I regularly eat and the availability and cost of alternatives. The only somewhat tricky one that I eat a lot is whole wheat pasta. Whole foods has it but I'm not always near whole foods. The price is 25% higher which is tolerable since whole wheat pasta itself is low cost compared to many foods. Black tea is considerably more expensive as organic. The rest of my foods are higher but good prices. It's easier for a person such as myself being single to take the price hit, and it's probably worth it.

Have you heard of the clean 15 and dirty dozen? The clean 15 are produce items that don't tend to have a lot of pesticides to begin with so you could avoid eating organic for those. Dirty dozen is a produce that is high in pesticides. Also, GMOs are typically genetically modified to resist pesticide or to make their own pesticide.

Fresh water fish would get pesticides from farm runoff. Would ocean fish? The large size of the ocean would dilute the pesticides. Large ocean fish that live long accumulate heavy metals. Would ocean fish low on the food chain like short lived filter feeding sardines have many pesticides or heavy metals?

Did you not mention washing/peeling your veggies/fruits? Even if there's some pesticides in the soil etc. I think most of the pesticides is on the surface of the plant. So peeling gets rid of most pesticides. But since the peel is often the healthiest part I've heard best method is to soak plants in water with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). They did a test on apples and iirc around 80% of pesticides from the skin were removed by just 10 mins of soaking

for those who can't afford to eat organic or are ethically against it because it is carnist, could you do a short follow-up video or segment showing the best methods of washing and/or soaking conventional produce to remove the majority of pesticides? also, which conventionally-grown fruits and vegetables are typically heavily/ minimally pesticided?
@MichePhD
@MichePhD 2 жыл бұрын
I will look into that. A lot of systemic pesticides are now used though, which permeate the produce and can't be washed off sadly. And I do want to add, not all organic produce is carnist--I only use vegan (+ organic) inputs in my garden. You may be able to find farmers market vendors who do the same. Sadly, technically all the produce you buy at the grocery store involves killing a lot of animals... for example, rodenticides are ubiquitous in conventional farming. Not to mention the pesticides from conventional are decimating wildlife and will continue to do so for decades even after pesticides are phased out. Organic uses animal ag waste byproducts that are being generated regardless, and the worst it's doing by using them is helping animal ag's bottom line a bit. So I'd argue the only truly ethical thing is to grow your own, and it seems like conventional actually contributes more to actually killing animals.
@taintmueslix
@taintmueslix 2 жыл бұрын
@@MichePhD the vast majority of certified organic uses animal ag waste and blood and bone meal. not only does this raise animal ag's bottom line, it makes the vast majority of organic _reliant_ upon animal ag, and thus, carnist. and since animal ag is reliant upon conventional farming for animal feed, more intentional animal deaths can be accounted for under the organically-grown produce supply chain than that of conventionally grown. I agree that conventional is unethical, but it's clearly the lesser of two evils

What about omega 3 supplements? So I'm assuming there must be a lot of toxins in those right? Depending on where they come from. I previously took flaxseed oil as an alternative but now I'm trying to conceive and I have dangerously low cholesterol levels (but healthy HDL levels) so I obviously need to be getting some more sources of healthy fats besides the flax seed, chia seed, avocados, etc I consume daily. I don't consume seafood normally and meat mostly grosses me out although I'm not vegetarian. I have a Nordic Naturals prenatal DHA from "purified deep sea fish such as anchovies and sardines." And the popular Ritual prenatal has omega 3 DHA from microalgae. The only issue is that with the micro algae supplement, my LDL is still 17 after a year of taking it. So I guess my question is whether there's a fish source of Omega 3 DHA that may not be soaked in toxins?
