Many of you have asked me to assist you with learning how to program your Federal Signal Vision lightbar. Some of you I've been able to help, but many of you I haven't had time to reach out to. Adam -- I got my Vision programmed last night thanks to your video -- thank you! I only had one issue come up that I can't figure out. I made pods 2 and 6 the alley lights. When I press "Jog left" or "Jog right" the alley light doesn't move a little bit like it's supposed to. Instead, it starts spinning all the way around. Is there a program number to just make it move a little bit so you can aim them a certain direction? I put in pattern # 86 for jog left and # 87 for jog right. Everything else programmed without a problem. Since I couldn't figure it out I just used those two button for other flash patterns for now. You're a great teacher and I'm glad you had the patience to figure out this light bar programming for everyone else! This video is such awesome help!!

Hi Douglas- That's weird... the jog should make them only move in small increments... it sounds like there is a bug in your system. What happens when you use full flood? You can jog that as well... does it jog in small increments, or does it do a full spin? I'm really glad the video helped you!

Adam, I reprogrammed the Jog left button with 86 (jog left)...when the alley lights or the full flood is on, they all spin (pretty slowly) in a full circle. You're right -- must have a bug in it somewhere. I posted a video of it doing this on my page so you can see if you'd like. The full flood going in circles is pretty neat though! I didn't keep the jog left programmed as jog, I put it back to another function. I don't want to risk something going wrong with it in the "jog" mode.

Adam, thank you for this video! It's a lot easier to watch this and follow along. I tried to make sense out of the manual a few years ago and was pretty confused. I haven't messed with my "newer" Vision in three or so years, but I hope to get it programmed better now. I have an older style Vision controller also, do you know you how to program the older controllers as well? I think somewhere in one of your videos you said you had a question about a LP6000 light bar? I have one of those bars and don't know everything about them, but what were you wondering about it? The least I can try to do is help since you've helped so many people with the Vision. I may not know the correct answer though.

Thanks Douglas! To answer your question, I do not know how to program the older version controllers, although if you know Sean Sutherland, I think he has one. To be honest, I don't remember having a question about an LP bar. I have one in my collection, and it was probably the simplest bar out of the whole rig. Thanks for watching!!

Sorry, Adam, must have been someone else talking about the LP6000. I've watched a million light bar videos. I was going to try and post a picture of a "newer" Vision controller and the older one I have, side by side, so people can see just in case they haven't seen the older version. I'll try to figure out how to do that. I don't know Sean Sutherland, is he on KZbin? I will try to look just in case.

So I bought one of these just for the siren functions but can't get them to play. It just blinks reset. You don't need to have a light bar plugged in to use the siren functions do you ? Thanks.

Actually, you do. The Brain and lightbar have two-way communication, and the system will not work if it doesn't get a "ping" from the lightbar. HOWEVER, you can buy the SmartSiren controller (looks just like the Vision controller, without the V-shaped indicator lights), and you can use IT without a lightbar attached... it has the same siren sounds as the Vision brain.

@@bakerXderek I'm not familiar enough with the circuitry to know if you can modify it to work without the bar. I know for certain that the SM version will work without any lighting attached.

I have a few questions on basic set up. 1. Does the phone cable need to be a 6p4c or a 6p6c? 2. If I'm not using the aux ports on the amplifier, the only things that needs to be connected are; bar to box, controller to box, and positive and negative on bar to battery? 3. If I do use the aux ports, where do the ground wires go? To chassis? Thank you in advance, your videos have been educational.

Hey Austin, thanks for watching my videos! Here are the answers to your questions!! 1. It's a 6p4c cable- in other words, its a 4-conductor cable. 2. Not quite. If you are NOT using the Aux Ports, you need to connect the + and - of the bar directly to your power source, as well as the + and - from the BRAIN to the power source. NOTE: the + and - from the brain are located on the wiring hareness, NOT the big red wire that is separate- that's only for the Auxes. Lastly, you would connect bar to brain via Cat5, and brain to keypad via phone cable (as mentioned above). 3. If you DO use the Aux ports, you must connect the LARGE red wire from the brain to your power source. and then connect each aux + to whatever you are powering. And then yes- you would connect the ground wire of whatever you are powering via the Aux to the negative and/or chassis of the power source. I hope this helps!

@@AdamsLights Thank you very much. It does help a lot. Does the contorller not use 2 of its connectors? Mine has 6 metal tabs, but it should be the same as yours. Mine is also a vision. The connector I got with the bar is complete spaghetti of 10 different wires, none of which look like theyre original. Hopefully i can get thus thing tested soon. Mine is just going to be a prop for car shows but a working one is cooler.

Thanks for the compliment! I would suggest a Federal Signal SW300. It's a 5-switch simple box that you can usually find on eBay for $35-40.

will the smart siren work with the vision or is the vision controller the only one for this bar? i have a great deal waiting on a vision but it doesnt have the control panel or siren amp box...

You have to have the specific Vision controller/brain. It will not work with a SmartSiren.

great Video. I hope I get Level 4 done how I want it.... Because when i switch back the shifter from 3 to 1 (or off) the siren goes on automatically…. I just ordered some new clear domes and will use ist as "searchlight" on my RAM in Germany...

Hello again, is there a way to program the man button to be off like you can with a smart siren so that way it won't do the man tone when you hit the button? All I want is the air horn and I was able to disable the rest of the tones just not man it seems. Maybe I'm missing something?

Hi, i have the fed sig brain, controller ect,, but lightbar doesnt work, someone on the fed sig forums said my vision is too old for the current gen brain i have "platinum smart siren/brain/controller - current spec NYPD) - is there a way to test to make sure the lightbar works? surely, if i power live,neutral and earth it should light them all u and not spin, just so i can see power getting there?

@@AdamsLights Hi, yea i had to order a different brain, have it all flashing now thankyou, but have an issue with saving, its like no matter what i do, it doesnt save, and im trying to get the 2 back lights to come on only on code1, but doesnt save for me. But the strangest thing is, when the bar resets, all the bulbs face foward expect the two domes at each end. when i press RIGHT ALLY , the pod C turns and points RIGHT but doesnt light up, but the POD B powers on looking right light up.

Hey Gary! I do not have a video for the SM- however it is almost identical to the programming of the Vision controller. The only difference are button placement, and the fact that you have dedicated Aux buttons. That's pretty much the only difference in programming (and of course, not having to program Vision flash pattern).

How can I get the relays to work with the slide switch. Example. I have strobes and headlight flashers. Let's say I want my rear strobes (relay A) to turn on with position 1 then position 2 to then activate front strobes and headlight flashers on relay B. Right now everything comes on on position 2. If it helps my vision is from metro

Do you know how to get into programming mode? If you do, go into programming mode, and enter Level 2 programming. Press Button 9 to get into Slide Switch 1 position programming (dont move the slide switch itself). Once you are in "position 1", Use Button 19 to scroll through the relays until you get the one you want. So. In Position 1 on the slide switch, you should have Relay A on.... in Position 2, you should have Relay A & B. Dont forget to hit save!

Adam great video. Do you know if you are able to have any of the aux keys latch on with the slide switch. Like you can with the smart siren.?

It's won't technically latch on another button, however it can latch on whatever function you want. The only automatic function that i know of, is that it will automatically fire the siren on either position 2 or 3 if you want it to (that's how mine is set up).

Chris Heller gotcha. Let me ask you this- why would you want them on push button? Is there actually ever s time that you would want to turn them on by themselves? However, it is possible to assign an aux button to turn on relay output 1 (for example), and also tell relay output 1 to turn on with position 3 of the slide as well.

Adam Ogden a lot of customers what to just throw the slide all the way on bri aging strobes wig wags ect on with the bar. But want to be able to turn like the wig wags off if need be.

Hey Adam I was wondering can I run that bar off a 12volt car battery charger. The unit has 3 settings 2amp 30amp 60amp. Just so I can program it with having to hook it up to my suv

Robert Tanner hi! Is it possible? Yes. I would definitely recommend using it in the 60amp mode. I wouldn’t use that as the primary source of power for an extended period of time- but just to use for programming, you should be fine.

Robert this is Tish. We bought a REAL NICE USED Federal Signal Smart vision SL from Mike Rogers Southwest Public Safety Products of Arizona at 602-583-9010. He recommended a TRIPP LITE PR60. The price was a little more than We wanted to spend but after we purchased it knowing we could plug in up to 60 amps! The Tripp Lite DID NOT DRAG DOWN while I was programming it! Highly recommend a Tripp Lite PR60 Power converter! On other notes I want everyone who reads this is that We purchased the Halogen Vision SL completely Turn-Key. Adam, I have a federal signal vision controller and amplifier but do not have a vision lightbar. Am I able to use the siren function without the lightbar?

Garrett G. Hi Garrett! Technically no, you cannot. The Vision and the controller/amp have two-way communication- the amp "checks" for the Vision to make sure it's connected. If it's not, the keypad will simply flash and beep rapidly to let you know there is an error. Without the Vision connected, there is no way to bypass that. Sorry man!

One more question, I've seen the compete control boards for the vision for sale on ebay (without the lightbar just the boards) ... if I were to plug that into the amplifier would it then let me? Or is it smart enough to know that the boards aren't in a lightbar.

I've had people ask me that question before.... While I haven't actually tried it myself, I THINK that just having the board connected would do the trick... it's smart.... but I don't think it's smart enough to know if the actual bar is physically there, as long as it THINKS it's there. Good luck!

Hi Adam, i have this lightbar, have the smart controller and also the vision controller, but no siren, ive tried to attach the cables but i get no power, have you a video how to set it up? The plastic earth net end doesn't seem to fit the controllers, unless im missing something

So there are 4 main pieces to this complete system: 1. The lightbar. 2. The brain. 3. The keypad. 4. The Speaker. 1. The lightbar attaches to the brain via a standard RJ45 Cat5 cable, just like your computer uses. The Lightbar also has to connect to the Power source, via the Red and Black power wires. 2. The brain connects to power via the 12-pin mass connector (pin 4 and 6), AND the large RED wire that comes out of the hole in the back, labeled "+BAT". The brain connects to the speaker via the two brown wires on the 12-pin mass connector as well, via pins 1 and 3. 3. The keypad connects to the brain via a standard RJ11 phone cable, just like for a regular telephone. This MUST be a 4-conductor cable, NOT a 2-conductor cable. 4. The speaker connects to the brain via the two brown wires on the 12-pin mass connector as well, via pins 1 and 3. So all-in-all, your wiring should look like this: Lightbar: 1 red cable, 1 black cable, 1 CAT5 cable. Brain: 4 wires in the mass connector used, 1 large red power, 1 RJ45, 1 RJ11. Keypad: 1 RJ11 Speaker: 2 brown wires from mass connector. If that still doesn't work, you have a programming issue. Good luck!

Hi Adam, so i have it all connected but nothing on my vision lightbar. The cables are connected via BRAIN > LIGHTBAR with a standard CAT6 ethernet cable. Then, BRAIN TO CONTROLLER with the same cable (not RJ11 ) but, when i unplug the lightbar via the ethernet, the siren works fine, when i plug the lightbar back in, nothing works, just allows me to press the buttons and makes beep.

@@Banifieque02 You have to use the RJ11 Phone Cable, NOT a Cat6 cable for the brain-to-keypad connection.... A cat6 plug doesn't even fit into the hole, so I'm not sure how you are using a Cat6 cable for that connection.

But, i have it all connected fine i think and when i load the program on windows it finds the controller head too, but, i go into the next room, turn the sirens on ect and all is great, but soon as i plug the lightbar in, the sirens no longer work, nor does the lightbar.

The system will not work unless everything is connected. The system uses 2-way communication, and if it doesn't "sense" each part of the system, it will not work.

I've programmed a smart siren; I really don't like FS's programming interface. Comparing it with Whelen's Wecan software, FS is way behind in terms of user interface and ease of programming. Not only is a Whelen Cencom easier to program, but it also offers more user programmable outputs.

This means that the controller, amp, and lightbar are not talking to each other correctly. Make sure you have all three items connected properly, using the correct cables.

I think its in the way I have the red wire coming out of the lightbar itself wired incorrectly. What should be between the bar and the battery? Relays, fuses, flashers?

it goes like this: Battery is connected to both the amp box and the lightbar, via red and black cables. Then amp box connects to lightbar via cat5, and to the keypad via 4-conductor phone cable.
