Vegeta actually did that by the way. Goku and Vegeta aren't HEROES. Vegeta is worse in some ways, and Goku is generally a "good" person, but in the source material, neither of them are ever all about justice and goodness and saving people. Goku blatantly gets many people killed MANY times because he wants the best fight possible, even if it means he could lose and cause the world or more to be destroyed. You'll see one of the most egregious examples of this later.

Why you paraphrase all this in more negative way than it really is? If Goku priorities best fight over anything. Then why was Goku helping supreme kai to stop Buu resurrection? Or even ask Majin Vegeta to stop fighting because they need to stop Buu first? Why does He as SSJ3 fight Buu only to stall Buu and Babidi and then stop and instantaneous transported away from there? Sure. Goku made some misjudgement. He spare life of Vegeta and Piccolo. But Goku 100% thought He will be stronger than them. Maybe someone die because of Goku's negligence. Maybe Goku overestimate himself or something unexpected happens. But Goku intentionally not choose a good fight over life of other people. I didn't watch full Dragon ball Super. But read and watch Dragon ball and Z.

@@helloasa9296 It comes from Toriyama himself that Goku was never meant to be a hero; he's a selfish challenge-seeker who cares more about getting a good fight than anything else. He'll protect those close to him, but even they can fall victim to his challenge-seeker mentality (such as giving Cell a Senzu bean before fighting Gohan). He sees villains primarily as competing fighters for him to overcome on the path to becoming stronger, like when he spared Vegeta not because it was "the right thing", but because he couldn't beat him alone (as it was actually Gohan, Krillin, & Yajirobe that did most of that; Goku did little except give Krillin the Spirit Bomb and redirected Oozaru Gohan at Vegeta) and wanted to fight him again later when they were both stronger. That Vegeta went on to become one of their most powerful allies was pure dumb luck, born out of selfishness. Toriyama was reportedly rather disappointed by the anime and _especially_ the dub turning Goku into "warrior Superman", with Super making him less heroic and often more concerned with having a good fight than the well-being of Earth or universe at large specifically to bring Goku back to the way he was in the original manga. TLDR; the Goku from the English manga and both the English & Japanese anime were actually a case of "Adaptational Nice Guy", and does not represent Goku as he was originally written by Toriyama.

To answer the question of "was vegeta that strong" yeah he was. He could have killed cell within a few minutes if he'd actually wanted too. Cell was the equivalent of super saiyan goku and krillin in power difference here. Like vegeta is my favorite dragonball character but he plays with his food too much Also the sure you can line is followed up by a Shoryuken, one of the most iconic Street fighter moves behind tbe Hadoken

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Goku is an all arounder. He lives for a good fight. He doesn't really care how he fights so long as it's a good fight. Vegeta on the other hand is much more prideful and grew up on Vegeta in the height of sayian culture. He lives to satisfy that sayian itch of honorable combat and bloodlust. He lives to get his hands dirty and to win without fists is a cowards victory to him. At least that's my take on them
