Eggplant (also known as aubergine or brinjal) is a popular vegetable eaten all over the world, including here in Zambia, where our local variety is called impwa. This video shares how and why Mondo Farms has chosen eggplant as our major vegetable crop that we grow all year round.
It dives into our current crop on Dubai 1 and 2, and starts with how we sow seeds in an open field nursery. We then moved onto preparation of beds, before transplanting the ready seedlings in a series of batches. After setting up the drip irrigation on the beds, we then carry out various steps in crop husbandry, leading up the time we start harvesting from each block.
The video also discusses the benefits of succession planting strategy for vegetable farming success.

Interesting comment. On our farms, we name our fields according to the way we want to. The names have meanings and contexts that matter to us. Its sad that some of these names seem to trigger you. All the best.

Hello, sir, I always watch your video for inspiration about my own project in Liberia, especially your video about the water dam. I was wondering if you could tell me how you transfer the water from the dam to the drip irrigation system. Do you use a booster pump and if yes, what's the capacity?

@mondofarms4343
@mondofarms4343 11 ай бұрын
Thanks. Glad it's helpful. Farming visits are a challenge for us. Our priority is to do farming tasks and programmes. When we have visitors, a lot of our attention has to go to them, which is not positive for our outcomes. And you can only imagine how many visit requests webget each week. We are working to start having formal Farmers Days like other farms do, when various people can come and see what we do in a structured manner. We will advertise on our channels when we do.

Hi Mervin. I always appreciate your support and I'm so glad to be a positive force in your life. I'm humbled by your request. Sadly, there is a limit to our ability to interact with other farmers outside of these KZbin videos, which take a lot of time and effort to film and produce. You can only imagine how much we are contacted each day by people asking for advice. We need to make sure that attending to them doesn't affect our ability to perform our day jobs and meet our deliverables. All the best.

I am confident you will find what you're looking for on another video. There are plenty of such on KZbin. Some are produced by NGOs, agrochem companies, Govt ministries, etc. We dont want to down that route yet. The Mondo Farms channel is about sharing our farming journey and inspiring others. All the best.

How many days is between the drenching beds and the transplanting
@mondofarms4343
@mondofarms4343 Жыл бұрын
Interesting question. In the textbooks and guidebooks, they say drench 2-3 days before transplanting. When you're farming in the real world, you sometimes drench and transplant the same day. (Especially with biological fungicides and insecticides, there is reduced danger to the workers coming in to transplant.)

I am guessing whoever would ask about numbers is needing to answer the fundamental question of whether the venture would be profitable for them, if they worked from a smaller capital layout and smaller budget , that sort of thing. Clearly yours is a fairly large capital input , which might not be so for everyone.
@mondofarms4343

I was always brought up to believe that asking people about their business details is inappropriate in most contexts. But you wouldn't believe how many questions we get about our business details. Of course, we share business numbers with those that we should like bankers, shareholders, the taxman of course, and other stakeholders. But not with strangers and not on social media. Other people do share their numbers and costs on various fora. But that is their choice. My approach to business requires a level of confidentiality. Anyway, it triggers me. I will reflect further.

Indeed. Yes, I understand. We are getting on working more mechanization soonest, but your suggestion of waggons and carts one we will keep in mind. Speaking of prison wardens, sometimes our supervisor has to be very harsh when keeping the team going. That is something that some people find hard.

Why is your staff ,so mob rule ,there heavy handed with using fertilisers, pesticides , insecticides their wearing PPE but on one of the videos he’s spraying with his colleague just feet in front on another planting row ,the residue is catching his collar - health problems for him down the road ,your over staffed ,not coordinated with each other. You should be using compost bins and leaving the roots in the ground - go no till and leave cover crops in the ground plant into the fallen ground crops ,bringing life back to the soil - maintaining soil PH level at (6.5-7.5 ) I admire what your doing ,your videos are great but so much messed up crops by the staff problems
