I used to work at Cummins. I remember walking back to shipping & receiving. FedEx had dropped off a turbo box minus the turbo. The whole bottom of the box was blown out. How do you lose a 50 lb turbo?😂

I'm an industrial mechanic at ethanol plant and when UPS brings bearings anything over 50 lb it looks like they rolled them I've had many of bearing I've had to send back because it was damaged and shipping.

A LOT of plastic and small screws. When I was working at the city fleet, I had to install roof mounted light bars with traffic advisors in several Ford Expeditions, Ford Vans, F Series trucks and other vehicles. Headliners were always fun. A through D plastic pillars covers likewise. Good work, but sometimes a real pita. The car is coming together. I always like the way you video the completed vehicle at the end.

Really smart thinking, cutting out that microphone from the headliner to see how it installs. Having been designed to not come back out, almost anyone would have certainly broke it. I'm guessing you broke a few on the road to learing that? lol. That's how I learn everything.

This was the first one I had ever tried taking out, which is why I had to figure it out. I used to just break stuff and figure it out after, which is great for the next time but you still have a broken part this time. I learned being patient and spending a couple extra minutes can save time and money in the long run.

When you do a car for the first time, where do you get the information on how to remove things? Such as the visors. I would think that is not a common installation/removal method or maybe it is. Do you have access to service data for all of the different type of vehicles that you work on?

Pretty much all Honda visors are like that. I do have service data but it takes me longer to look it up and read than just to figure it out. Service data will not tell you things like how to save the microphone covers. It also tells you how the engineers want you to do it, which can be way more difficult than it needs to be. Perfect example GMT800 heater cores!

As you watch the very tedious process of doing what sounds like a simple process of replacing the side curtain airbags you realize why even a “small” accident that triggers the airbags totals a modern vehicle. Even if the parts were very reasonably priced, which they often aren’t, the labor costs have to be a fortune. I remember replacing the interior of my 60s era car back in the early 80s. What seemed like a pain in the ass then would be like a relaxing walk in the park today. It’s also further proof why there won’t be many “classic” 2020 cars on the road in 2070. There is just no way all those small bits and bobs survive 50 years. The plastics just won’t survive like 1960s and 70s steel and aluminum did. Hell, they’re brittle and fragile in ten years much less 50.

They do sell aftermarket kits and I believe the plain RDX still has them. Those a pretty rare, most are at least Tech packages.

Salvage yards have them often but these came from the dealer. Bigger dealers buy parts in large quantities at a steep discount.

The parts wouldn't have had boxes but it might also have been outside the supply contract with parts maker. That is why I asked. I worked for a Euro mfr and Honda/Acura is a different culture
