Vehicle Bugout Kit POU by Nutnfancy

With bad changes in society, talked about here, and some experiences I had this year, maybe it's time to integrate a BOK in my vehicle. TNPrs have been wanting this Nutnfancy Kit Build for a long time but I just wasn't feeling it. Now I am.
Here I lay down the all important PHILOSOPHY behind a VBOK. It's substantial actually and necessary commentary on ROL conflicts will be made. But this Part 1 is made to keep you focused on your objective in your VBOK and it's a simple one. Things will quickly arise however to distract and derail you in your progress towards it. All this is covered.
Several key concepts such as travel method, fitness, conflict avoidance, SAWC, distances, urban vs rural will be covered.

I've been running a vehicle bok for a long time. I found that a ton of stuff doesn't work. I just put in my normal BOK and add a case of water and a couple 3 day survival food buckets and a level 2 med kit. I won't carry all that if I have to bug out but chances are I'll use the food and stick with my car. Love your work buddy. God bless

I’m 75, wife is 77. I graduated from the same survival school Nutin went through. My pack has gotten smaller over the years however I just added an Inreach Mini 2. We still walk 2-3 miles daily, lift some light weights and stay busy everyday. Watching this video is a great refresher.

A few years ago I got stuck with 4 small kids for 12 hours in Alaska because of fires crossing the road, & then again 5 years ago because of an earthquake I was stopped for three hours. I had kits but I keep adding to it every year.

I personally love the CMMG kits. Almost all my friends have them. They are reliable for us with most types of ammo, work in any barrel length just the same, and are affordable as well as fun. Zeroing between 5.56 and the .22 is good enough for the run n gun plinking we do. Nice not needing a completely separate rifle with 2x the optics and all to outfit both.

I prefer a separate .22. I jabe the Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22. It’s an excellent choice for practice or hunting. All of the controls are exactly like an AR, 25 round mags. I’d rather have two rifles than one.

I see a VBK as being two parts: 1.) Bug Out Bag 2.) Vehicle Specific Items (items that you would use if stuck WITH your vehicle: extra water, extra food, more equipment, more ammo/magazines, etc.). If you have to go man-portable and cross-country then you take your BOB.

That's exactly how I have mine set up. I have several bins with tools and stuff for the vehicle, winter clothing, food, water, survival items, etc. Then I have a backpack with emergency medical and a few more crucial items, and plenty of extra space. My theory is if I have to jump out in a hurry I can just grab the backpack and have the basics covered, but if I have time I can select the mission-specific items from the bins to load the bag out before departing on foot. It all lives in my trunk but if I have to ride with someone else for some reason I just grab the backpack and keep it in their vehicle while we're out. It's like a vehicle-based extension of my EDC.

That's a sweet coat! My rig of choice is a 91 dodge w250 4x4 with the 12v cummins had it since I was 16 and has proved itself to me over the last 300k+ thousand miles, have held it to the floor for hours in that truck and it doesn't brake a sweat. Have been getting 20-24 average miles per gallon in the mountains

I would say the problem with the 12 valve is the nose its like ring a dinner bell my neighbor has one and I can hear it over a mile away in my house i real like the 300 ford its even simpler and you can get 17 mpg with them plus its quiet with a good muffler

By the grace of God nothing happened during the last summer of love, but during those times i found myself having to drive through some of the most dangerous parts of this country and ill tell you a low-pro plate carrier under a hoodie was the body armor choice for me, out of sight out of mind. Also it might have been some of my fud upbringing but when presented with a threat in armor, a 12ga slug may not penetrate 3a but a 3" slug is still gonna collapse a lung through level 4

In most situations, people will be fairly chilled-out for the first 48 hours (since we are conditioned to be in that mode (rule of law)). After that, when people realize no one is coming to save them that is when panic will set in. Combine that with a lack of supplies and readiness, that is when bad things start popping off. If you go mobile, you've got to move and get to your objective inside 48 hours if at all possible.

My decision to carry the vbok is distance determined. Normal ops, just hanging around town and commuting to work is the same as my “get home bag.” If I can make the walk in less than one day, I don’t put the kit in my car. I scale it from there for distance and season. That being said, during the “protests” I had pretty much everything in my truck. I appreciate the philosophy of this vid. Lists of goods are interesting but also a dime a dozen on this platform

Exactly. I have one sling bag which stays in my vehicle, and my get home bag that goes in and out of the house with me every work day, and any time I'll be more than 10 miles from home. If I get a longer trip, I toss in another small pack which runs heavy to food, but also has redundancy for me or others.

@@not1word331 Yeah, sling bags are a great idea for a mini bug-out system that you can always have with you. Although I conceal my main bugout pack inside my vehicle, a smash and grab is always possible, and it could happen at the worst time when everything is going haywire. With a smaller shoulder pack, you can take it when you're shopping, at work etc so that at least you have a backup. Inside the small pack, just keep the absolute essentials- Shelter (an SOL reflective rain poncho is tiny but excellent), Water- (Filled water bottle plus an Aquamira Frontier Emergency Water Filtration/Straw is about perfect for a shoulder kit along with a couple of zip locks and purification tablets as a backup), First Aid and Trauma Kit, Duck Tape for shelter building and repairs, spare mags, portable/sealed Wipes for cleaning, emergency SERE fishing/snare/fire making kit, tiny portable radio, trail bars, etc. With this should kit, you could potentially make it a long ways to home assuming you already have a reliable and sturdy pocket knife and CCW concealed pistol assuming it's not the middle of winter. During winter, if things get really bad, plan on wearing long johns under your pants and wearing a heavy coat/down jacket along with hat and gloves and a vapor barrier liner for your feet (a bread bag wrapped around each foot and then you put your sock on over it an then into your shoe/boot will prevent frostbite). This way if you come out from shopping and your car is stolen or broken into, you won't freeze to death while getting home. Throw your SOL reflective poncho over all of this and you can survive some pretty crazy temperatures until you find shelter or get home.

After Hurricane Katrina large numbers of people from Louisiana evacuated to our area. Due to the extent of the devastation in Louisiana they never left. It’s never been the same here since, their culture of crime, violence road rage, robbery,rape, drugs, alcohol homelessness, etc. etc. They brought it with all with them. Our crime stats went through the roof. Those road rage incidents sound like your state is having the same problems and I imagine a lot of it is from some of those people fleeing California. I’ve seen the same things happening in Idaho where some of my family lives.

Recently drove across country, and a handheld CB radio was invaluable. Cheap as chips, reception inside the car sucked with the rubber ducky, but that same ducky attached to a roof with a magnetic roof adapter and it was a game changer. You'll hear truckers relaying information about what's ahead, what lane to get into, etc way before anyone else.

The main point that sticks out to me in this conversation is the idea of - for lack of a better term - "slipping away". Most people picture a scenario where we band together, travel as a pack, make it out as a unit. However, the problem is, eventually those people that "latched onto you" out of fear or whatever, are going to become desperate. it's only a matter of time, and they are going to turn on you. History shows us time and again. You have to come to grips with the idea that there is no such thing as (in practice in real life) as a hero. Make the hard decision, if SHTF, slip out of there with the supplies you have and increase your chances of making it to your destination. you CAN NOT save everyone. That is the scenario that is most likely to happen in the current state of our society. Come to terms with it and do what you need to do.

I did a 22 mile veteran suicide awareness hike a couple years ago and thought it would be a good idea to bring my dogs with me. I figured on 7 miles per dog with a relative meeting me at different mile markers to swap dogs with me and all 3 on the last mile. My dogs were not sedentary animals as I took them out with me on walks regularly and they have open fields they can run in and I've taken them on obstacle course mud runs with me in the past. But I learned then that my dogs would limit how far I could go as none of my dogs made it 4 miles away a time with as hot as it was that day. Fortunately I was able to change plans on the fly but it's too think about any pets you may have with you in a VBO scenario

I see to many instances where folks advocate different bags for different but specific uses. We need to advocate a basic every day BOK and then add on items to the specific duty BOKs. Start with the basic BOK inventory and add on the addendum for the new specific functions. This may include add on's like additional medical supplies...the same with water, food, ammo, etc. And consider all this dressed down to the GRAY MAN script. By the way, the lack on social consideration I see today is at lower level than you have discussed...it is at, "I am inconvenienced...I demand you help me. " And remember that about 50%+ of our public takes mood modifiers daily and don't react to well in disorder situations. You mention injury issues. Add age issues. It gets more difficult as you get older. Great topic.

Great video. I have an extra 4x4 2003 Ranger with a 4.10 limited slip diff that used to be my work vehicle that was used to always tow a treatment boat for lakes and ponds 1300lbs and we never have boat ramps so 4x4 is crucial because we want to get out and not destroy the customer's lawn. I estimated that the 4x4 system has been engaged at least 13k times. 251k miles, I've changed all fluids and she runs like a charm. I just haven't had the motivation to put the plans in motion to set it up for bugging out because my prepping is for bugging in....but the what if's start in my mind and I'd at least like to get her set up for a just in case scenario because you never know.

If you look tactical you will attract unwated attention because people assume you have things and know things. If you look lost, or confused people will assume you are a weak target and you will attract unwanted attention. Yeah, aside from that excellent GarandThumb video, as the old saying goes, "Walk softly but carry a big stick." Assuming you are armed with a legal concealed pistol, carry yourself in a confident but not overly-confident manner. Avoid all trouble. But if you are still confronted by thugs who intend to rob or harm you, that's when your "stick" will come out and address the situation. Until then, blend in totally. If this means wearing a Bob Marley t-shirt, weed shirt, then do what you have to even if you don't normally dress that way. As another saying goes, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

Long time TNP'er here. I moved to Utah in 2021. I was headed to Oregon and found myself in Utah County. AF. I had always wondered how Utah would be and settled there with some expectations. I mostly wanted to see the terrain. I spent a lot of time around the cities. The people of Utah are tense and unpredictable. As prepared civilians all we are trying to do is consider likely scenerios and have kit and tools to over come them. Car kits are extremely important in my opinion. I'm talking chest rigs, mags, firearms, ways to make shelter, cook, keep warm, apply aid, etc. Etc. With alot of thought and considerations... all these things and more can be condensed into functional sized kit to keep in a suv or truck and be prepared for natural disaster, active shooter situations or whatever. Piece of mind is what we really aim for I think. Tools are nice. I've used my car kit many times... and even the chest rig and loadout for un expected range trips with the bros. Win win.

I'm only a few minutes in, so I apologize if you covered this bro. I'm going to finish the video, but I had a definite reason for a couple of vehicle bug out kits. Why? California. I maintained vehicle kits for both of our hybrid vehicles, including fuel loadouts. Hybrid? Yes. My Prius was capable of 40mpg+ at normal speeds, and it could carry more than you'd think. With two people, that is. My Nissan Pathfinder hybrid was more than able to do 35mpg (I have videos on it) and it was a seven seater with roof racks and a tow receiver. The five of us could flee California (CCP invasion?) and we didn't have to stop for fuel until Texas. A vehicle bug out means you are more capable, but you need to have that "on foot escape pod" built in. If that vehicle dies, or fuel is too difficult to aquire, or your... whatever. Be able to bug out from your vehicle bug out. Be prepared enough that you shouldn't have to. Your luggage on a two wheel dolly was always part of that. We had a collapsing two wheel before you shared that. I was so happy to see you do that. Now that we moved to central Kansas? I'm scoping out where I would bug out to, from here. Honestly? I feel like I've done all the bugging out that I need to. Ok, back to the video! Can't wait.

Just a tip from a thought you spurred up If travelling with suitcases obviously not hand carrying them Cut seatbelts and make back pack . Car is dead to you when you leave anyway. Road flares etc could be used to scare off animals.start fires. Tire iron better than a stick. Lay out everything and take your time making it work with what you got. This is only one scenario of many. Assess situation and if you carry binoculars like me for wildlife viewing ( hunter) I would get to high ground and assess then decide next step. Best to be ready for anything.

I think the philosophy of use he's driving at is to have your vehicle prepared in advance for an overland departure from your stuff. You're not going to be hauling all your va-cay luggage along on this hike. We're talking about a separate backpack type system that is already prepared to move with. If you have a decent roller bag/duffle that you're traveling with, you might use it as an additional thing, but anything more than that defeats the purpose of get to your destination.

The first type of vehicle that rolls after any natural disaster is the bicycle. Walking is 3mph, cycling is 10mph. Take your walkhome time and divide by 3, maybe 4. Ice and heavy snow may stop you even walking. If you have big rivers without bridges, a pakraft will do. Often, damaged bridges are passable on foot and bike.

For years I have had at least a good pair of hiking boots, socks and some warm clothing as well as a few large bottles of water in the car, last year I added a camping stove that burns gas and kerosene with some basic food for a few days as well as hypochlorite to make water drinkable (at least kill biological stuff). I really need to add a tarp. Firearms is a bit more complex here in Europe, I need to get a new 'firearms passport' to at least be able to transport a few across border. 4X4 with clearance and off road tires. Tire repair kit, compressor, bolt cutters, map, a credit card and cash. 99.99% of all emergencies are isolated and can be solved by leaving the area. Dont be afraid to think when driving how you would escape in any given scenario while driving. If you have NODs, get used to driving lights off at night.

Don't leave out: First aid kit, fire extinguisher, hand tools, hose clamps/extra oil/coolant, jumper cables/jump-start battery pack, small shovel (used to many times to dig people out of snow/gain traction/poop shovel here in CO), etc.

Dude , I always carry my beavertail pack with me to work because I drive a lot during those hours and in my car around town ritualistically, it has my ifak , TP, radio, fire kit, even NODS, etc. , just basically all the essential tools for doing the things , I never leave home without it

Man I am sitting here laughing cause I keep picturing Tim Mcgraw in 1893. He didn't want to lead that group of pioneers but was talked into it and half of em died otw. So the moral of the story is once you realize you gotta move then get going otherwise you might have a whole group following you. Looking forward to part 2. Looking forward to this whole series. I'm switching vehicles from sedan to SUV so no trunk concealment. I have a huge stash of emergency supplies and tools but now I'm more concerned about vehicle break-ins just leaving it in the back. Thinking about getting a metal locker thing and chaining it to the vehicle and padlocking it to slow thieves down instead of using plastic bins. Any ideas TNPers?

Installing an in-car camera with a wi-fi alert system is an option so that at least if you're not too far from your vehicle, you could stop them/get the police rolling your way as soon as they trigger the alarm. .
