Vehicle Fire Extinguisher Install (Universal Mount) | AnthonyJ350

We install a Fire Extinguisher rated A,B and C into the Interceptor for added safety using a universal mount.
I'm not sure why I've driven my vehicle for so long without having a fire extinguisher installed. Vehicle fires are very rare but if they happen you are pretty helpless to do anything about it without the proper safety equipment.
Plus they look cool when they're installed.

Nice install. My only feedback is that there is the possibility that in a collision, the driver and/or suicide door are crushed in a way that you can't open them or your legs are injured and you can't exit easily. I think having it mounted at the front base or rear base of the passenger seat gives better access if you have to stay in your seat and the fire is on the interior.

tbh idk why cars do not come equipped with fire extinguishers and seat belts cutters.

That's a good question. Probably cost and people don't value safety items like that.

Loctite Red might work if you can't access the bolt side. It'll also keep vibration from unscrewing them.

Just got a 5 pounder to put in the trunk of the Focus and I'm trying to talk myself into drilling the spare tire cover to mount it down. I don't want to put holes in my car, buuuuuut a secure mount is pretty good.

You can make a bracket that used the factory hole in the spare tire mount so you don't make a hole.

I think it looks pretty good, it's a logical and good place. I wouldn't put it outside either. I have an old soviet all-road decommissioned military truck, what I use in the woods and such. They are diesels and prone to run away, I just thought about installing fire extinguisher a few days ago. Very good and informative vid. I have one question, is mounting the fire extinguisher overhead in the cab is a bad idea?

Beni Thank you! I think it depends on what and where. Those older truck's on the cab are mostly sheet metal since all the strength is in the frame underneath. What do you plan to mount it to? Is the first question. Also will it be far from your head to when you go offroad you don't accidently swing your head into it. Is there enough room beside the seat between the door on the side as an alternative mounting area?

If u four wheel. N it and it comes loose and hits u or the passenger in the head then u have a run away truck with am unconscious driver or passenger

Is BC fire extinguishers good for car or should I get ABC for the car

I would get ABC. Stay tuned as I will be covering MAUS, very effective and comes in a small package.

Old comment but BC is better for cars because BC extinguishers are less damaging/corrosive for cleanup. I was going to get a ABC to until I learned BC usually have sodium bicarbonate which is better for cleanup.

You really must have a Halotron fire extinguisher in the car and not the dry chemical type which is extremely messy and highly corrosive. If dry chemical powder is used in the engine compartment it will not only damage and destroy electrical wires, but if not washed off engine components immediately and thoroughly, it can become nearly impossible to remove. Whereby Halotron is a clean gas which makes no mess whatsoever, and is highly effective in extinguishing liquid/fuel and electrical fires. Also, extinguishers need to be stored vertically and not horizontally. Halotron, being in constant contact with the valve assembly, will corrode it to the point that it will not operate when needed. For dry chemical extinguishers, the powder will eventually cake along the whole length of its side and then it will not be pushed out of the valve properly.

I wondered that myself because I've seen companies suggesting horizontal installs (under seat was popular).... I checked on car fire extinguishers installed horizontally and this is what I got. "A modern fire extinguisher can be stored horizontally. The contents are under pressure, and the angle of storage will not cause the system to leak. Proper fire extinguisher storage includes using the appropriate mounting brackets, and being sure that you do not allow your extinguishers to freeze". (-40 F to 120 F is what I read).
