I am not so neat and have a tote bag on the back seat floor. My sister came to visit and saw my bag. She asked why do you have that in your car and what is in it. I told her to her disbelief that it is for everyday. Not an hour later her dog rolled in her poo. They washed her but she still stank and my parents didn't have anything for that so she came to me and asked if I had anything for the smell for a split second i almost said something not nice,but turned and got out two different kinds of hand wipes regular and lemon. She picked lemon. I am just saying this to show you never know what yiur "emergency " will be

As usual a very good presentation, maybe a small addition from me. In my vehicle i always keep one of my old cellphones, an old Siemens. It keeps the charge almost forever. And i can always use it for an emergency call ( ambulance or police) even without a simcard. I see that as a very cheap insurance if my smartphone is out of power, smashed in an accident or simply out of reach. I kerp it in the driver side door.

I keep an old phone too but it's new enough that it takes a mini sim card, same as my current phone so I could put my sim card in the old one to make a non-emergency call on the off chance that my phone is damaged but the sim is okay.

@@jessicacanfield5408 Common sense in this context means don’t make any sudden movements or movements of any kind really without communicating with the officer first. I recommend that you keep your hands on the steering wheel at all times unless complying with an officer’s instructions.

I've been meaning to make a video of my setup. Since I've outfitted my vehicle with some common sense preps, I find myself using them all the time. It's nice to be able to pull over and help a driver stopped on the side of the road!

I love the Organization sections that are color coded. In my big Camping Go Bag, a bag where I may have to bug out in the woods for who knows how long, I have cinched top nylon bags, and I too use the color system, Green = Food, Red = First Aid, Orange = warmth/Fire , black = tools, Light Blue = Water, ( sawyer mini and parts, Life Straw, Purifying tablets, water bottles. I’ve seen guys go out camping and setting up their camp almost at dark and they reach in their bag and pull something out and little things go flying everywhere, in tall grass! The only thing about this video is to cautious about having your name and address labeled, because if someone finds your keys or just breaks in to your car, and see that now they know your in the store, and they have your address and can use your car to go to your house and load up all you valuables, and haul away with your truck!!!

I would recommend keeping a hi-viz jacket in your drivers door incase you have to get out while on the motorway; keeping it there would mean that you could put it on before you exit, rather than getting out then having to go to where it is being stored.

Good video. I'm really enjoying this whole series. I live in the deep south and I always have a bottle of bug juice in the drivers door so I can grab it. I also have some leather work gloves in there too. That's about the only real differences. Keep up the great work.

+timokross I think the magnet might be, but the clip method into the air vent probably wouldn't be (at least in a major crash). It's definitely a risk. I have an alternative mount, but I don't enjoy it as much.

Good idea to have pens everywhere (!!) but in some parts of the world where the temperature goes down to minus 20 and the car is outside the ink tends to freeze up making them unusable. That's why we always keep a bog standard lead/graphite pencil in the glove box - always works!

I suggest the Skilcraft U.S. Government Retractable Ball Point Pen, Fine Point, Black Ink, Box of 12 (7520-00-935-7135) www.amazon.com/dp/B0055KSNYK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_0iCKEb91FQ6ZP. This is the pen that the US Military uses everywhere, and is one of the best things ever. For $10, you can get a box of 12 pens, that are reliable and can withstand extreme temps. Those cheap bic pens fail in no time. When my dad passed away, I found an old Skillcraft pen in his desk that probably had not been used in 30 years. It wrote perfectly.

My philosophy is....." if it can't fit in your pockets or in a bag you can quickly lift out of the car, don't store it". .or if you have it, be prepared to lose it. IMHO. Area 1 or Tier 1. Access to suitable eye goggles and a windowscreen seal cutter with a way to cover glass if your screen gets shattered. Reality is, the fist vulnerable thing to take out on a car is a screen, especially if you run into a mob of angry people or go off-road and have a branch whack the screen. Curious to see what sort of tools and vehicular equipment you're going to carry bud. Always interesting for others opinions. Like the idea of organising a tier system! 👍 🇬🇧

I keep meaning to buy a res-q-me keyring to always have it on me but for now I keep a flashlight/belt cutter/glass hammer in my driver's side door pocket.

Nice new series Cliff. How do you find time? I'm still catching up on BOB v3.0. Are you going to use the Colors of Prepping for your Vehicle preps or something related? I had expected the electronics module to be Yellow!! I use the BUBM Universal Cable Organizer Electronics Accessories Case USB Drive Shuttle with Cable Tie (Medium-Yellow) rather than the Amazon Tavel case. In Yellow of course!! Also have one for all my HAM cables and stuff in the center console. Too many black cases in a dark interior or dimly lit door pockets. I don't use the ResQme tool, but have given them to several family members. I encourage them to keep them on their key chain. I use a Tool Logic SL6 Rescue Tool With 1/2 Serrated Knife, LED Flashlight, Seatbelt Cutter and Window Breaking Punch, Black. Someone else raised a concern about the tool flying off the visor in a serious crash or roll-over. I use a piece of Velcro tape to attach my self-rescue tool to an open pocket in my central console (accessible by driver or passenger). Another great rescue tool is the Victorinox Rescue Tool Swiss Army Knife with Pouch (Tier 3 for rescuing others??), I use it as a duty tool. Any reason you don't have your HAM radio up front? great local traffic info and a backup to cell systems getting overloaded.

+Gerry Fitzpatrick LOL! Well, I don’t sleep much in order to continue cranking out new videos. Good point regarding the Colors. No, I wanted to keep the modules visible in the door panels fairly discrete, so I’m going with black. I’ve been worried about vehicle theft in regards to this project. However, I am using the Colors of Prepping when the modules are under the seats or better hidden in general. I should have mentioned that in the video. I may need to add a footnote. At the very least, I should add a colored keychain label to keep everything consistent. I am continuing to look for better options for securing the ResQMe. I didn’t go with one of the tools you mentioned because I was worried about them being too difficult to get to if they were in my pocket, for example. I wish the ResQMe clip was more of a clamp, similar to a GoPro clamp mount. I wasn’t originally planning on including anything HAM related in my vehicle until I could convince my wife to allow me to attach an antenna to the roof. Here’s hoping! My brother in law does semi-truck driving and relies on HAM heavily while driving. Looks like I may need to re-prioritize. Great comment, Gerry!

I have a question about the rescue me tool. I have been thinking about buying one but can't think of the best place to keep it. It seems like in any serious wreck where I would need it, the car would maybe flip or be partially crushed and I keep thinking that the tool would just fly off from wherever it was attached, becoming unreachable, in the event of a serious crash.

+neolithic3 Your keychain is probably the best place to store it if you can handle having a bulky keychain. I don't think it would fly off in a wreck. I am going to continue to research alternative methods. I wish they made something similar to a GoPro clamp mount that people attach when filming themselves driving.

Does the smaller Anker battery have any issues being inside a car and exposed to high heat or cold? Approx how long will it hold a charge between times it needs to be replenished? Weeks? Months?

+traderjoes I haven’t experienced any problems with temperature changes, although Washington doesn’t often get extreme temperatures. If I lived in Arizona or Alaska I would need to test this better. I have other batteries that last for months without a charge (e.g., the battery in my GHB), and I expect Anker to perform similarly. I will provide an update to this video after I’ve let it sit in the vehicle for a while.

+traderjoes Yes, I’ve been losing weight over the past 2 months. I finally have my prescription medications at a good state and made some minor adjustments to my diet (e.g., avoiding donuts at work). One or two more Emergency Food Ration Bar 72-Hour Challenges should help me get close to my goal weight.

Would suggest you swap out one of the backup usb/lightning cables to one of the combo cables with all the usbs/Apple 30 pin and lightning. Someone might be with you with an older or android phone. Plus you don't have a charger for the oldskool iPod.

Cliff, replace the alkaline batteries with Energizer Lithium batteries. They are a bit more expensive, but can handle the temperature extremes of a car better, and won’t leak like alkaline batteries.

I would switch my registration and insurance to the visor module because cops might still get antsy if you reach down to your,side for the information.

I totally agree. I got pulled over once and after handing the officer my license and registration, I pulled my left hand back in the window and put it on my lap close to the door. The officer tensed up, didn't say anything, came real close to the window, and made darn sure where my hand had went to. So now, if I get pulled over, I turn off the engine, keep the paperwork in the visor where I don't have to go reaching for it, and most importantly I keep my hands on the wheel.

+David York I'll look into making a tweak to this setup. I may include the proof of insurance and registration in the visor for the cops, and have a duplicate of the proof of insurance in the Vehicle Documents module for any unexpected auto accidents. I always enjoy being prepared in those situations to exchange info with the other driver, and show that I have everything nice and organized in a single folder.

I'm female so being such, I keep feminine products in my center console between the 2 front seats. I don't have a large enough door pocket so all my Tier 1 edc goes in that center console. Leather driving gloves, flashlight, screwdriver, bic lighters, paper, pens, highlighter, wet wipes, kleenex, etc. So many things... My cables and chargers are in the cubby under my radio. Along with a lighter, hand sanitizer, and pepper spray.

My city has a huge homeless population but they have this thing where they sell newspapers to help them get out of that situation. I try to keep dollars, lighters, and cliff bars within reach too because then I'm not reaching for my actual wallet and its not a lot of money left in the car if anyone is trying to case me instead of actually needing help. It lets me help but doesn't put me in danger of getting robbed.

I'd be concerned with my proof of insurance and all the being in the door pocket. If pulled over and needing those documents, I wouldn't want to have to put my hands out of sight of the police to get to it and risk some scared cop sticking a gun in my face. Maybe the visor organizer would be the safer place for it?

Something I've always remembered being told when I first started driving... Keep your hands on the steering wheel and in plain site. I always keep my registration and insurance and a copy of my drivers license in my visor.if the officer request a yo see my original license I will inform him it's in my wallet and ask permission to reach for my wallet to get it. You don't know the state of mind of the officer. Better safe than sorry imo

For your mileage for taxes I use an app called MileIQ it is awesome! You should check it out, it sure beats writing down mileage and keeping track of all that stuff!

never ever leave your car documents in the car. if someone steals your car and do you have the papers right there if they are quick enough they can register the car at their name before you even know the stealed your car

AAA is a good number to have but man they can take forever. Look around the areas you frequent most often or zones and research the best crane company with the best service and response times. Print a Cliff special mini map with all the numbers and viola. I'd rather pay $50 bucks for help in 30 minutes or less rather than waiting for 2 hours for a phone call to be told I have to wait another 45 minutes.

+gundog4314 In regards to AAA, if you know someone personally who tows get their direct phone number and AAA garage number. Give them a call, then AAA and give AAA the garage number of the particular company you want them to dispatch too. As a former tow truck driver, its important for people to understand that the drivers get paid hourly in addition to percentage of tow/roadside service. If someone tells AAA , I'll get this particular call. They may not be motivated to get to you ASAP as they may be comfortable with the hourly wage they earn and don't see the few dollars extra as a big incentive for them to rush out to you. This is a reason to tip drivers who do make it in a very reasonable time. There are ALOT of drivers who don't care how long it takes them to get to you. A few dollars to keep the quick drivers quick is well worth it.

Why a paper state map in the Seattle area ? I picked up a local state map B&N Book Store coated in plastic ! And have the local city map (paper?). For all the rain are you including the Blunt Umbrella reviewed by "Nutnfancy" that includes how to handle knives (+ & --).... Also I carry my tactical pen in my Shirt Pocket EDC to break the side window of a car or buss to evade the zombies. And have my Go Bag/Get Home Bag with me on short day trips with the car or city buss. Thank you for the video ! tjl

+Tim Lipinski I don't mind paper for inside my vehicle. They're more detailed than the plastic ones (at least the ones I've seen) and I will probably be reading it while inside the car and away from rain. I definitely like the laminated ones for a BOB though.

+TheUrbanPrepper Tim beat me to it! I use the Rand McNally laminated ones, very similar to their paper (I noticed that's also what you have). They make both a Seattle AND Tacoma laminated city maps, too. Fantastic video, I'm very organized as well and love seeing new ideas to make life easier and be better prepared. Keep up the great work!
