Whenever you can turn the car off and turn it back on and it resets that means something is wrong don't let if fool you. If you haven't changed the plugs and the coils in a while definitely do so and that should fix the problem.

Had my 2014 BMW 328i serviced: Replace Fuel pump & fuel pump module / fuel tank cleanup plus ignition coils replaced / new battery. Driven 500 miles after service now, drivetrain malfunction has not reoccurred.

With my 2013 328i I'm getting no code errors even with DTMF warning and CE light on, my uncle and cousin both BMW Techs looked at it, said High Pressure Fuel Pump possible cause, timing chain looked good, thankfully the SULEV warranty can cover that, just need to find a stealership that would do it

If its a n20 engine , the most common thing is the waste gate actuator , I recommend getting an obd to read the error

Did your code pop up as misfire too or just malfuction? I had a bmw tech come out and run a diagnostics and tells me it's 2 problems. Need a new timing solenoid and camshaft position sensor. I didn't have a misfire code.

I drive a 2014 f34 335i. Coil packs are not always the cause. Always check the codes your car throws. It’s tells you what it needs people! I had a 1st and 3rd cylinder misfire. Bought all new step colder spark plugs. Then my car through codes p2122, p11ce, and u11e7. I have a new throttle body on the way because my position sensor went bad. Best of luck boys.

@@wesleyevans8368 I'm a Toyota fan as well, but Toyota is having problems with their turbocharged engine right now and recalled almost every one of them so this comment really didn't age well instantly. Also, many people with BMW's choose the wrong/worst platform and then don't use common sense like changing their oil every 10,000 plus miles and not keeping up with maintenance. Thinking because it's a European luxury car that it will take care of itself. Also, Toyota uses the BMW Z4 chassis and B58 engine in its new Supra which is their most popular car since the Toyota Camry, that can also go towards your comment about Toyota that's not going to age well. To conclude, no matter what car manufacturer you choose to buy a car from, every one of them has stains on their reputation and have had problems throughout the years directly from the factory. It's up to the consumer to use common sense and learn the way that cars work to make them last and extend reliability.

You get lifetime warranty on fluids as well. I have a 13 M5 and I use redline 5w50. Use the oil and buy new oil send back old oil and they refund you for the oil you bought. They just don’t warrant additives.

Usually tune-ups aren't very expensive if you buy your own parts and they're very easy to do. I don't know what someone would charge around your area but my mechanic charges about $150 if I bring my own parts.

I have an M8 Competition, 2020. It has 15k miles and I just had this issue come up. Waiting to hear back from the dealership. It's still under the original warranty for the next 3 weeks ironically. Lol! Hopefully the warranty covers whatever it is. I remember smelling gas whenever I started the car and first noticed the error. Think the warranty will cover the spark plugs or the fuel injector? I know it can't be the ECU since I've never gotten any mods or work done to the car. Only owned it for 6 months.

I keep getting this code as well on my son’s 328i F30. I recently changed the plugs and coils! I hope it’s not an injector! I’ll try a quality fuel treatment first to see if that helps any. Although I’ve instructed him to run 93 octane from quality stations I need to ask if he’s been doing either. And I certainly hope it’s not the ECU! I have also read it could be a turbo issue, such as a waste gate or actuator .

Man I'm sorry to hear that. At least it wasn't the ECU or a fuel injector. The purple M6 on my channel had to get a injector replaced and coded and it was $2,700 parts and labor from the dealer.

Yes - Changed the Aux battery with a new one from BMW - and thats done the trick (for the timebeing) - need to change the alternator at some point as that error is still showing on my scan and garage scan. Rubbish Cars though in my opinion!

Drivetrain error can appear for multiple things. I would say 95% you say is a bit overestimated. From my research and struggles with the car it could be as well: Fuel pump Whole air mass system (MAF + pressure tubes, whole air supply system) EGR and many many more.

@@oybekrakhimov936 This video was made for the "most common" DTM problems. Meaning 90% of the time when you get a DTM message "not" a special one off case with a personal BMW. I am sure your fuel pump caused a DTM, But a pump DTM is about 1 in 500 or more (500 people will have coil/plug problem before 1 has pump problem) when it comes to DTM plugs and coils will always be king of BMW DTM. My f15x5 had this happen. Turned out to be intake hose had blown off. Put it back and tightened clap. Voila, problem gone. Tip, always check the simple stuff first.

make sure all the coils are plugged in and pushed down correctly. Plugs and coils are the "most common" fix for drivetrain malfunction, but it could be other things as well. If any codes pop up put them in this website to see what they mean and help to fix them bmwfault.codes/

Honestly if you just drove off the lot and it's doing that I would definitely take it back and get it checked out immediately before any type of return window is over because it could be anything, but bad gas could cause a misfire problem to trigger a drivetrain malfunction.

Now comes the moment to go back to this video, cuase my 2015 X5 50i, has experienced the same as explained with the Drivetrain Malcfunction. Sad for me I'm in the other 5%. After changing Sparks and Coils it turn out that it has a bad injector. The issue now is that every coil is glued to the sparks and have been stugguling to lose them up,...do you have any tips on that? Or do you have a reliable shop that could have it done? I truly appreciate it 💯 you should use a little bit of dielectric grease when installing the coils but make sure you only use a little bit around the ceramic part of the spark plug so they slip on and slip off easy, but since they're already stuck try driving the car around until it heats up for the rubber to soften and then try pulling them off while it's still hot just be careful. I would recommend my mechanic since you're not far but he has covid. PSI Orlando and Euro charge Orlando are great shops that are very highly knowledgeable. They both do the same quality work just go with the one with the cheapest price. If you need any more help don't hesitate to DM me on Instagram. I have a stock 4 door 2013 328i. My drivetrain malfunction comes on if I floor the gas hard. It won't happen during but after the trip. If I kill the engine and start it right back up I'll get the message. I can drive at speed limit for DAYS & accelerate reasonably fast (highway/freeway). I won't get the message if I let the car "cool down" with engine off for 5 minutes after completing a trip that involved me flooring it. Either way the drivetrain malfunction has always cleared itself after 5 minutes of the engine being off. Like I said i can drive like a normal person on the road, and I won't ever get the message

That's a simple sign of bad coils or plugs. I had the same problem with my X5 as well and it would throw a DTM code whenever I will get heavy on the gas but when I drive normally the car will be fine I switched out the calls and the plugs and never had the problem again. You should start there especially if they've never been changed since you got the car then 9 times out of 10 those are the original coils and plugs in the engine and our past due time for change

You need to use real BMW code reading software. Like "Carly" for BMW or ISTA software. Once the car throws a drivetrain malfunction it's a code in the computer even if it's not a light on. The engine light just means that the problem is severe at this moment.

The same happened to me, I have an automatic 2011 328i I was in a little ramp parking and I was backing up and then when I put it in D it didn’t shift, If took my foot off the break the car rolled back, I had to turn it off and back on twice for it to go forward, how did you solve it?

Try this video it shows you how to reset the transmission and it works for a lot of people make sure you follow the video extremely close and do everything in order correctly the same way he says in the video. Check to make sure the plug that connects to each coil pack is pushed in and the clip is snapped down correctly if it's loose even a little bit it will/can throw a drivetrain malfunction.

I have a 2012 320d sport auto only bought the car not even a month ago kept getting the drive train message on the dash every time I put the foot down, I plugged in the scanner and got the code P0087 (Fuel rail/system pressure to low bank 1, do you know what this could be? , car seems to run fine when I’m driving easy but the minute I goto put the foot down and let the car go the message pops up everytime and is really getting annoying now I have replaced the fuel filter and hasn’t done a thing any ideas?

I have the same problem, did you figured this out? I've changed rail pressure sensor, error still occurs but only in random situations when I accelerate. Somethimes after 100km somethimes after 50km. I dont understand why it does that.

There's no such thing as a dumb question when it comes to a BMW DTM, but you will have to use a scanner to find out which cylinder the misfire is located in then you change the plug and the coil out of that cylinder into two different ones one cylinder has the plug out of the bad one and one cylinder has the coil out of the bad one and see if the misfire follows the coil or the plug whichever one the misfire follows change all of those, but I usually change the cause and plugs at the same time anyways especially if they haven't been changed since you've bought the car

@@carlwheeler2805 check to make sure you bought the correct plugs first and then check to make sure that the coil is pushed down all the way on top of the plug and that the harness for the coil is snapped in all the way you will hear it click when it snaps in.

@@robothieves Thanks for your response. If you understand BMW and the way its fault systems work then you understand that a simple misfire will not throw a "CEL". Coils and plugs are the most overlooked maintenance items on any BMW. So 95% of the time as a WHOLE meaning "ALL BMWS IN THE WORLD" whenever you see a drivetrain malfunction it's going to be coils and plugs causing it 95% of the time. People who comment the same comment as you just did are the "one person" or other 5% having a different problem, But when you take into account I said as a "whole" meaning every BMW on the planet that 5% is tremendous also. So it's a lot of different other problems that will cause a drivetrain malfunction other than plugs and coils, But plugs and coils cause so many more that the other 5% fails in comparison. Any dealership and any BMW technician that has had years in the business will tell you the same as I.

That's what I did today for my '11 535i xdrive. My battery was (according to the dealer) not firing enough voltage consistently to several modules. I did it So I guess We'll see.

You have to find the newest index number that fits your car I'm thinking index 12 injectors, but to be sure contact your dealership and ask them what's the newest version of injectors for your car or go to FCPeuro.com put in your car information and search for injectors and they will have the newest version

That's a very weird fault. I never heard of that one before. Take it to a European independent shop and have them read the code. If you're still able to drive moderately then it shouldn't be a big problem.

Thanks for supporting the channel fam. Getting a tune on your car will expose any weak link that the car had prior. If you haven't done a tune-up in a while I would look towards that first. Spark plugs then coils, because a tune wears on the ignition items twice as fast.

sounds like its a bad DME or the new DME was not programed correctly after installation.

@@akatuksta If the DME was not properly coded to the car then it will not work correctly. Makes sure whoever installed the DME has the correct software to code the new DME to work in the car. Usually only the dealership or and authorized BMW repair shop has the correct software to code the DME to work once its installed

DME cost less than $200 used and pay a shop $400 to install and code. Worst case scenario you ain’t spending more than $700. If you stay away from BMW dealer then you pay like $5k-6k

Its very possible because the battery needs to be at a certain voltage for full pump, injectors, coils and a lot of other things to work properly. So if the dynamo is not charging than it will cause a multitude of false codes to appear. Not using heated seats will help the dynamo last longer. Thanks for supporting the channel.

Hello they replaced the dynamo and it still shows drivetrain malfunction. Got to another garage and they say they have to replace the mechatronic. Is this possible? Because its expensive part i want to be sure.

@@RMxSonny That doesn't sound right, but I'm not a master BMW tech either. I would have the dealer put it on the computer because the system they use is far more intelligent than most private shops. Their system will be able to talk to the car directly. Then you can have the private shop fix the true problem.

99% of the time it will come back, but there's a very very small chance It was just a glitch as any computer is not perfect.
