@@ihavealife002 the mustang gtd is built by multimatic motorsports in canada. multimatic built the ford gt from 2015 onwards, both road and race cars. they build all the versions of the mustang race cars, a mazda race car and they worked on the amg one along with several aston martins. they're well known in f1 racing too, their suspension systems are top notch. it has a ford badge but it's built by a race car company.

If anything, they're being marketed at a higher price than the GTD, and that's a car that comes highly spec'd as standard and is being sold direct to customers by Ford (no market adjustments or upcharges by dealers).

@@CaseyCollier Ford has stated an "estimated" starting price of $325k which means it can still be lower or higher. You can order a 992 GT3RS for $240k direct from Porsche. My mistake. $85k less based on the GTD's estimated price.

Indeed, I'm a little worried that they will underperform, because front engine is just not rear engine.. But that power plant is probably one of the most exciting ones among the homologation cars. Mind you the Mercedes' engine is quite a bit away from the front axle, while this mustang doesn't seem to have the engine farther from the front axles.

The mustang doesnt really look like a Porsche GT2/3RS beater to me. Not even close. It still loses traction at speed around corners sometimes. Thats not going to cut it if you want to beat Porsche.

@@rns6889 The GTD weight distribution is as close to 50/50 as you can get, due in large part to the transaxle in the rear! The engine is set back and lowered with a dry sump lube setup and it has a carbon fiber driveshaft, saving a good deal of weight! Believe me, they built this Mustang to really handle incredibly well. Check out a few of the early runs around the Nurburgring recently put on KZbin. The car stays flat in hard cornering looking more like an F1 car than a production coupe.

"committed to do sub 7 mins" ... i thought it was aiming higher than that?. conservative deliverable?? 7:00 nordschleife is 1975 F1 speed, 488 pista. 6:45 is GT3 RS, Lambo SVJ (didnt know that was so fast), AMG black series, 6:30 AMG One.

Man... that GTD, it's got me. When the GT supercar first came out, then the gen2 arrived, I was in complete auto bliss. They are a masterpiece of American engineering. The European cars are also amazing, but the Fords have a different soul to them making them very special in their own way. The GTD is no exception to that rule. As far as the interior materials, looks and feel goes, who cares! It's still a Mustang, not GT supercar!

Just filling out the application doesn't guarantee you a car. You must be approved by Ford before you are allowed to order one. Same process as the 3rd generation Ford GT. Over 9,000 potential buyers completed applications, on that car, and just 1,500 were approved!

They are only making 2000 GTDs The R&D cost to build a homologated GT3 car for the street is very high. The GT3 version is like 600k 😅

I think you skipped the part where they said it’s originally a track car. And in track cars there’s literally nothing on the inside for comfort so why would they go for/carbon fiber on the inside? And at its core, it’s still a fucking Mustang. It’s not really a Porsche or a Lamborghini. You’re not spending half $1 million or $3 million. It’s just a piece of shit Mustang compared to the European luxury brands. Why make it what it’s never supposed to be? Now, if you’re going supercar, then you’re gonna pay over half $1 million.

They could have in-layed a reversed image of the information panel into the dash, then reflected the information on an enclosed reflector, which, when looking at the graphics from the drivers perspective, they float in a very pleasing holographic effect.

Yes it did. The Manthey Porsche finished first. Not that it matters...neither of those cars is the street version that's for sale by the manufacturer, and they're both subject to WEC's BOP ruleset. So using a LMGT3 race to guess which street car will be faster is silly. A Porsche GT3 R race car is not the same as a GT3 RS street car, and a Ford GT3 race car is not the same as a GTD street car. Now, both street cars do share a lot with their racing counterparts, but they are NOT the same thing.

As a mustang guy. I would never compare a NA GT3RS to a forced induction vehicle. The fact that the mustang needs more power and all the aero and all the suspension work. We should respect how good the Porsche is. GTD is a good first step, and Ford needs to learn from this car.
