A team is "cap strapped" when they need to do any of the following. Cost-cutting trades (e.i. including picks as sweetness) or buy out a player's contract (often bad contracts). Shed salary via offseason trades including picks (e.i. Fabbri) and finally when a team has less than 5/Mil left in cap space to spend at the upcoming TDL. Veleno - Who would we replace him with if we don't re-sign him? The cost is a bit too much and the length a bit too short. What no one is talking about is the length of the contract, as more years would mean that Velano & RW have a long-term plan for the player (the value). Is Velano a core player in future RW? My answer is No he is not this and for those reasons this was a contract (the right to his contract) we could refrain from signing. So Raz, Mo & Burger and it already smells bad for Burger to stay long term in RW. I have already said that he will not stay long-term and his upcoming contract will lead to what he does long-term. I'm not worried about Raz & MO contracts, they get done when they get done. Bayout off Husso? Sounds and looks like a bad idea at this time of the year.

Sprong had 43 points and a -5. Veleno had 28 points and was a -16.

Sprong played 3/4 of the minutes Veleno did and was on ice for 48 goals against to Veleno's 44. Plus he was never trusted with high danger defensive minutes which I'm sure Veleno faced against much harder to defend competition. Goals and points are nice but if you can't be trusted to help defend more than you are putting out then it really isn't a mystery why the guy is 27 and already on his 6th team for less than a mill. Every team is like that woman from a lifetime movie. They allll think they are going to be the one to change him. Good luck nucks! 😂

​@@davidlaffin5747 Veleno was on the ice a lot more than Sprong meaning there was much more time for the opposition to score and make his plus/minus worse. More time meant Veleno was trusted with tougher minutes than Sprong and he clearly did better with those minutes than Sprong would have. The fact that Sprong is a minus with the limited ice time he had and the points he put up is beyond a joke. It is no surprise to me why he is 27 on to his 6th team. Good Luck with all that Canucks!

If Sprong put up that many points for but cost even more in such short on ice time, he is a bum defensively and is going to have to sheltered so much that isn't worth it to have a guy like that on your team. I'm not trying to be a champion for Veleno but plus minus is a shit stat that doesn't actually show you the quality in those minutes played. Veleno played a lot more than Sprong and against tougher competition and yah his plus minus is worse but it doesn't tell the actual story. The long and short of it is 5 NHL teams have passed on the guy for these reasons and it doesn't shock me that this is kind of his last make it or break it chance. I wanted the guy to work in Detroit but it is fully understandable why he is gone.

This team will be mediocre for a long time. Team is too small to work in the playoffs. We dont have the skill yet and we are maxed out in cap. Larkin is a question mark health wise, and seems to be unable to take hits without getting severely injured. Defense isnt good, center depth isnt there. How do we even proceed other than scrapping all of this and starting over again with Raymond and Seider?

i mean maybe mediocre this year & next, but over half the team u see now are 1-2 year bridge players until our prospects are ready. and that’s ok literally all those problems u talked about with skill & defense will be solved with in - house guys coming up. especially at goalie

With the cap going up A LOT for the next few years, there is no way Seider and Raymond takes less than 10 on an 8 year deals unless they're stupid...
