Izzy Stradlin was basically like GNR's ambassador of authenticity.... and nothing is more effortlessly cool than being unapologetically authentic to one's self. That's always rare - but in the LA rock music scene of the 80's, it was sort of radical. His charisma was the attraction for the other members in the band and the others in the guns orbit. Yes, Slash was iconic from day 1 and Axl Rose is Axl Rose. All of them were brilliant songwriters imo. Slash, Duff and Axl all wrote songs that made Guns legendary, so while Izzy deserves the credit he gets as a songwriter, I don't think that's the biggest thing the band lost when he left - it was the authenticity and in-turn, the cool vibe. Gnr has always been about the big dynamics, like hot and cold, love and hate, crazy and cool, guns and roses, etc. Without Izzy, Guns lost the cool to balance out the crazy, imo.
@eastcoastmonkey Жыл бұрын
I agree that each of them brought something different to the table - they were like the ingredients to a perfect, dangerous, sexy cocktail. I agree that Izzy was authentic. In every way. Genuine was the perfect word to describe GNR. And as much as I love all the original members, I agree that Izzy was the most genuine.

That is not a reunion. Half of the Democracy lineup of Guns N Roses is playing with Axl and Dizzy. Slash and Duff rejoined in 2016, (Duff was also the live bassist for the band during a concert of the Chinese Democracy tours when Tommy Stinson wasn't available) Melissa Reese is their newest member of GNR'S as a secondary keyboardist. I would call it a regrouping rather than a full reunion. If it's going to be a reunion, Then, Steven Adler, Matt Sorum, Gilby Clarke and (maybe) Izzy Stradlin would rejoin the family again.

I know ... swoon. Is there not just something extremely compelling about seeing them together on stage? I so wish he could have been a part of Velvet Revolver. And he would have if the other guy hadn't been around. Long story. If had not been a 'is it going to be me or him' situation and the lead singer thing - he would have done it. If it had only been a 'is it going to be me or him?' situation I think he would have stuck it out and fought for it. If it had only been a 'lead singer situation' then I think he also would have stayed. Ugh. Hurts me, lol. I don't care what anyone says. This is my GNR. I cannot help it.

Man, so it’s hard to notice obviously when they’re playing an old song, but it’s SO obvious with any of their songs pre-and-post Izzy how much they needed him. As far as he and Slash go, for example, Slash was the ‘riff guy’, great for solos, or melodic, note-based hook type work (the stereotypical example would be “Sweet Child”), but Izzy was the BASE of all the great songs…the actual guitar chord progressions, the songwriting glue that drove and held all those songs together. Again, to use “Sweet Child O’ Mine” as the cliche example, Slash stumbles upon this looping, what he calls ‘circus-type’ guitar riff, then Izzy is the one that comes into the room, puts some chords underneath it, then decides what the next section will be, etc. There was always a hole there they never really filled, where you’d occasionally have these great riffs but no song beneath them or tight structure…just some distortion-heavy shredding.

@@josephpereira75 I know ... ugh ... if Fortus wasn't already a member of GNR then Izzy would be in the lineup or at least have been in the reunion tour for a few years. But Axl didn't want to fire Fortus or Ferrer and I get it. But it does suck and is really unfair for Izzy when he started it all, really. I think Axl should have said, look, the fans want a reunion tour. Ferrer and Fortus - would you step aside for a year or two for us to do this before we die? And then I promise we will still be together. I know Fortus is great, but come on man. Ashba bowed out so he could allow Slash to come back. The others were like - nope. You'll have to fire me. If you mean that Izzy doesn't want to perform with them now, then yes, I agree with that. But I don't think that was the case in the beginning. I could go into it a little deeper than this, but it doesn't really matter anymore. Basically, they only wanted him for less than half of the songs. Not for everything. So, they didn't want to pay him as much, of course. And he said no. And I don't blame him. I mean, if they don't want him to do all the songs that's their bag - not his. But I get it. Axl didn't want to fire anyone, and I can understand that. At the same time, I can understand Izzy's point of view. I say Duff, Axl and Slash get back together and tour and that is great - but to call it a reunion tour maybe wasn't the best idea. But I get it. You want people to know that Slash and Duff are back, so you're going to call it that. As far as 'his status' - I don't know what you mean by that. And I like Fortus. He's a cool guy and a good guitarist. I've seen him perform. But I can still have my fave GNR rhythm guitarist. I mean, people had their fave bassist and lead guitarist for years and years before they came back. (And yes, I know not all of them preferred them, but the majority did.)

Scott went through the same shit Axl did...during and in the end....Sure GNR would never be without ALL founding members!!! Still, note that both singers came up with the band's name, most lyrics, visuals, clips and cover ideias and approaches, had to do most interviews.... then were ostracized upon first personal difficulties dispite holding on while the others went through their personal shits...were crapped at when raised the flag the bands needed to evolve...until all the others had to say about Scott was the same trash they sad about their previous singer/leader. And then another band was over....again....no leader....but this band (VR) left little to no legacy as they abandoned it completely. (Axl' GNR was fking questionable BUT kept the name and songs alive). Nonetheless, this video proves they rocked this day...what a shame. As we say in the buziness: when an airplane crashes its never the fault of one dude...its the whole bunch and a fucked managment. Same applies for a band.

Axl owns the name and (at least used to) the voice of gnr. You can't replace a voice and a charisma like his. It's like taking away Bruce Dickinson or James Hetfied from Iron Maiden or Metallica. It's not the same
@eliorocha103 жыл бұрын
@@kurdt_tgc Agree. You cant replace voice but sometimes you can replace charisma. Sammy Hagar and Brian Johnson made it with VH and AC/DC. Dio made it with Black Sabbath. John Corabi almost made it with Motley Crue. Unfurtonutaly his album came 8 years too late, in the mid 90's at the time Metal was almost dead by the new sound of grunge bands. I am a big fan of that Motley album with Corabi. I believe Scott Weiland had what was needed to made it with GNR. I prefer a GNR album with Scott Weiland than a Axel album under GNR name.
