Ordered a few of these in 11/2023 and they seem to be popular with people . Ordered the 100/240 and 400/800 . Should be all good

Hi Caleb. I was just wondering. What kind of stones / strops / material do you use to hone or refresh simple kitchen knives? thank you.

I use a few different stones. My favorite right now is my King Neo in 300 grit . My 1,000 grit green arashiyama stone and my tan 6,000 grit arashiyama to finish out.

I don’t mean to get off topic but is there a big difference between a Weck Sextoblade hair shaper vs the cheap ones at Sally’s Supply?
@blistersteel6 жыл бұрын
Yes sir,the original weck were light and had scales that balanced very close to a real straight razor. Also they were made to be stropped each day,and I used a pasted strop to refresh the edge a few times a month,the blades can last a very long time.

Nice review! How do you like to 1200/2000 (4k/8k) stone? I was thinking about getting one.

Yehoshua D. Stone they are a higher skill required tool. You have to lap them with fine grit silicon carbide loose grit, also you should rub them with a piece of marble or an oil free translucent ark to smooth out the surfaces and get them to calm down and act their actual grit. I love mine,they cut carbide heavy steel without any issues ,such as s30v and the Hitachi special steels that Kiya uses on their better gyutos.

Hey bro. My f400/800 feels smoother or for arguments sake the same as the f1200/f2000! Does your feel the same? Or too hard to tell easily. Tbh the 1200/2000 feels kind of rougher. What do you think?

At this point,I think they are duds. They let loose grit go in chunks that destroy the apex. I've tried lapping with coarse,fine ,extra fine lapping powders,and it seems to make no positive difference for them at all. I bought two sets to test ,both do the same thing.
@@blistersteel I haven't used them enough so find that out myself yet. Actually just did my first sharpening and was surprised to find that the extra fine/ultra fine felt rougher than the medium/fine stone. So besides them releasing can you feel a difference between the 400/800 and 1200/2000?
