Very awesome animals, that is so cool that y'all relocated the ones you could. That's crazy that y'all found a water moccasin on your porch and very glad that y'all didn't accidentally step on it. Very cool find. Awesome job on the turtle sanctuary too, I'm sure that they'll love it. Can't wait to see the next video, take care 🙂.

This might sound crazy, but box turtles can climb up chicken wire. I have pet box turtles and have seen them climb it. Folding down the top 4 or so inches of fence will prevent them from climbing over.

I had discovered that box turtles are great at digging out of enclosures. You could use logs around the perimeter at the ground level, half in the ground, and tuck the poultry wire around and under them to make it more secure.

Finding a venomous snake hiding in your porch garden reminded me of stories I've read over the years about people being bitten by poisonous snakes hidden among the plants in the outdoor patio and garden section of places like Home Depot, Walmart, etc .

The amazing thing about a cottonmouth is how such a heavy bodied snake can ride high in the water while swimming. They look as if they're swimming on top of the water.

Great video as always guys! You guys must be reptile magnets. Buggy looks like she feels a little better but maybe you should be on the lookout for a friend for her? I know there will never be a dog (or cat) that will replace Brittany in your hearts and that's as it should be. Buggy however could probably use the companionship. Love you guys.

Tricks of the trade: Lose the hook. Get a forceps grabbing system. Use a big garbage can with about 3 inches or chopped hay or wood shavings on the bottom and a lid held down by bungee for transport. No need to touch the snake and easy to dump into big transport container instead of a bucket.

Y'all should go around the bottom with 1 × 4"s. Weed eater will destroy chicken wire and even a small turtle can stretch it out enough to get under. I keep a plastic tub with water for my box turtles. They use it to poop in. They like pooping in water.

Awesome snake! I’m happy he/she was on your porch. Any other porch would likely ended in its death. Venomous snakes are so misunderstood and we need more people educating people like y’all. I don’t understand all the hunts that go on just for the sake of killing. Then those same people complain when they’re over run with rodents. More education less killing. My 2 cents.

You guys are luky with these beautiful snakes at home :) I have no snakes on my porch but i saw a few in my life in nature and the zoo. In switserland i saw a slowworm and in the near lake i saw a snake with red and black stripes. I tried to look it up and thought it's called a grasssnake but that one doesn't have these colors on the internet. It was swimming under my kayak.

I'm fairly certain we don't have snakes around here with red and black stripes, so I never forced myself to memorize the rhyme, but I think it goes 'red touching black, safe for Jack. Red touching yellow, kill a fellow'. It helps identify Coral snakes.

Reasons for wife/gf to know about reptiles. Go Jay! Y'all do such a great job with the education about wildlife around the lake & during your adventures. I guess another take-away is for anyone in a venomous reptile habitat to slow down & LOOK before picking up something in the yard/porch/doghouse to see if a 'visitor' is around during warmer weather. Copperheads, rattlesnakes, cottonmouths around water. Keep Safe Everyone... How are the sirens doing?

I am a big snake fan myself. I was happy to see that you guys didn't kill the snake. You did the right thing. For everyone who tells me "the only good snake is a dead snake" I ask them if they like mice and rats in their homes, because snakes are great at keeping the rodent population down. I have numerous stories about my exploits with snakes. Some funny, some not so funny, and a few close calls with venomous snakes. I am going to put my pic back up with me holding a 5-6 ft. bull snake in honor of your guys' love of snakes. Thanks for the great video of the cottonmouth.

There was a really good shot of the hole in the rats snakes mouth that allows them to breathe while eating a large meal, I was wondering if there is a technical term for that. I know the Jacobson’s Organs are in the roof of the mouth and that’s how they “taste” the smells, or smell the tastes, depending on how you phrase it. The tongue catches scent particles and they insert it in there, right? But never read much about that huge tube in the mouth. Just wondering if you knew?

I was in Georgia and found a box turtle about maybe 6 inches long and it had red, yellow, and other colors on its shell, and I put it in a big plastic tub that had like a 2 or 3 inch trench like thing all the way around the bottom of it so I filled that with water and gave it some lettuce, and kept in inside where it was like 75 to 77 degrees, and the very next morning it was dead. Do you have any idea of why it would have died in like 12 hours time?

When you find a water turtle on land the advice I' ve gotten is to leave it alone. The females are laying eggs and this is said to be disrupted when you put them back in the lake. Even moving them can cause them to lose their way back to whatever water they came from.
@richardhincemon
@richardhincemon Жыл бұрын
The only time to move a turtle is when they are crossing the road . Just get them off the road and place them in the direction they were heading. No harm done to the female river cooter in this video placing her near water.
