In a day and age when everyone seems to want the latest gadgets the flashiest cars… it’s refreshing to to hear a young person say, “ I like old cars”. As I’ve said before, well done on the achievement so far. Great content with a few laughs along the way. 😊

I grew up with cars with vent windows. Thanks to you, I have a better understanding of how tricky and finicky these seemingly simple devices are! No wonder carmakers threw air conditioning in cars; look at all the trouble they had with these things! Lol! Mahalo for yet a other fascinating video!

Good Job, I think you will find as you move on working on cars that many more tools will be sacrificed for special one-use tools. 😃 I have a toolbox with a nothing but tools I have modified over the years. That is the fun part of the hobby specifically with older cars, some tools are no longer made and making your own is part of the venture. Enjoy! 🙃Just wait until you can't find parts and you need to make something not made for your car work.

You're so right! We've made a few tools so far, and we actually did make something work for Carl about 2 years ago. We found rust on our toeboard and needed a new one, but with the pandemic, all of the suppliers were out of prefab toeboards for months. So, Dad and I got a sheet of 18ga metal at a junkyard and we fabricated our own. Check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYa9pqd5Zqmhgrc

Good work! Fortunately I've never had to replace a wing window weather strip like yours. Yours looks pretty detailed. Glad it all worked out in the end. Your restoration is coming along nice! Thank You for sharing your experience.

Did my vent window seals on my 62 Falcon 2 weeks ago. Getting the old seal out was the hardest part. It was dry and brittle like yours. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see it done!

I made my Falcon vent rivets from short brass household electrical outlet screws. I ground down the diameter and head thickness of the brass screws. I used a hammer and a punch with something under the head of my new rivet to install the rivet.

You will modify more tools than you think I’ve got lots of wrenches ground down thin and bent in different shapes. And even tools you make when you get in a pinch. Good to see progress.

Used to call them wings. One thing really missed because was nice to have the window down and not have wind on your face. Although was nice on hot days not having AC. My best memory having my biceps against the door while holding the frame. Made myself look strong when cruising. Just like movie American Graffiti.

I just did both of these on my 62... not an easy job... PLUS there was a delay in the shipping process 🙄... but got them in with rivet gun and the top one in the corner, the rivet gun wouldn't fit so I used a punch on the rivet and glue. Done and done.
@pmostad28802 жыл бұрын
What rivets did you use? Just regular any store type? What size were they?
@ElliesGarage2 жыл бұрын
Yes I think they're standard pop rivets. We needed to drill a 9/64 hole so maybe they're 1/8 rivets and I think we used the ones that were about 1/2" long. Hope that helps.
