Ventura County - A Day in the Life of a Hydrologist

California has endured a prolonged and serious drought, and with recent downpours unlike the region has seen in years, Hydrologists respond with the use of instrumentation that can help collect velocity and discharge data, and assist with flood modelling for future events.

I love this video and I’m only half a minute in. I’ve always wanted to grow up and have a hand in the water crisis, and travel the world to countries with poor water access and do good. I feel like hydrology is the career for me, combining the allure of collecting data and a lab setting, with the humanitarian nature that I’ve always wanted in a career. This is a lovely video, thanks so much for making it!

I'd love that kind of work. You get to go out in the elements, researching how nature affects the urban environment and vice-versa. Btw, 1:54 reminded me of the old days in the U.S. Navy lol

You can also get your bachelor’s in Earth and Environmental Science with a concentration on hydrology.

Get a bachelor in any thing physical/natural science or engineering related, then get a master's in hydrology.
