I missed out on this and it’s probably hard to find do the changes at the Atari Age Store. Great to see how it plays on this channel. I did get a homebrew of this game for the 7800. It is from the online site, Video 61. I have not played it yet to compare.

Get you a Harmony cart from AtariAge while you can and I’ll see that you have the ROM.

So happy I managed to snatch this game before the prices went crazy!

Yeah, this is still one of my favorite homebrews still. I play it on the channel from time to time. Love the third level and treasure screens!

I think this will be my next homebrew purchase

Man, this review is OLD!!! I may have to redo this one! LOL! But, yes, this is a great homebrew. I loved Venture for the 2600 back when I was a kid, but not having the third level and the added features made it lacking. This one is amazing!!

Had this game on ColecoVision when it came out, obviously Coleco would not put this QUALITY version of the game on ATARI VCS ... (Coleco always screwed Atari over, *PONG*,DK,DKjr,Zaxxon)

Yes, this version was well done.

It's so weird. In spite of being a modern homebrew, it borrows most of its framework from the ColecoVision port, especially the shortcuts, such as reusing tunes instead of being faithful to the arcade original's variety (especially for collecting treasures), or the way the opening tune gets cut in half and plays before Winky is moving rather than during. It's so much better than the official Venture port, obviously, but also frustrating that nobody was on board to ensure it was as close as it could get to the arcade. Another microcosm of this philosophical shortcoming: the "stepping down the staircase" sound is supposed to be elongated white noise that fades with each step, but here it's just quick, short blips.

It isn’t perfect for sure. At least it has the third level and the opening screen… even with its flaws. It’s better than the COLECO version for sure. When comparing it to other ports it does hold up pretty well.
