I save a slightly longer tag end. And then use the tag end to counter wrap it as ribbing to protect the hackle. seems to last a bite or two longer. Simple and cheap way to make the fly last longer! Regards from Sweden

This is a great incentive. Fly fishing and fly tying are two linked but separate arts. We all owe it to secure the continuation of our sport to introduce, encourage, and help both new anglers and to bring back people who used to be active fly anglers when younger. Life and work got in the way. Now they may have the time to rekindle the love of fishing. As our fly anglers are becoming older the combination of age, health issues, and ultimately death. Results in fewer rods by the water and people behind the vice. Myself I had health issues that stopped my fishing for over ten years. This year I am back on the water and behind the vice after a long absence. But at 63 know I realistically have a limited number of years before my health fails again. Here in the UK we now have by far more older anglers than younger generations. So we are facing within less than twenty years facing a huge drop in numbers of people fishing. If fisheries stop generating income they will close and soon fly fishing could be lost forever into the forgotten pages history. One of those silly things our great grandparents used to do. We cannot allow this to happen. For the sake of our art we must pass on not drop the torch. Personally I will continue in all ways possible to help. Even if you cannot fish or continue to use a vice as often as you once could. Please continue as much as safely possible and encourage others into our beautiful sport. Take a friend fishing help local clubs with teaching new anglers and pass on how much enjoyment can be found behind a vice. We all can remember our first fish and the first fish we caught on a fly we had made by our own hands. Good luck for all in the draw. Tight lines and wonderful memories.
