It's worth the extra $40 if you wanted to use it as a camping fan or in a power outage. It lasts for a couple days, has a light which is handy in a tent, and can charge the phone in an emergency.

It won't last 2 days. That is a flat out lie. The battery is 44 watt hours (3.7V x 16000mah). It would have to be using under 1 watt (916mW) to achieve that life. A 1 watt fan is completely worthless. It would have to be 1/4 of the size (blade span) to be able to speed up the air with a consumption of less than 1 watt. These fans are far too small to be useful. You just cannot move enough air given the power available to them. A small standing floor fan will use about 25 watts on low, 45 watts on medium and 60 watts on high. Plus a floor fan would be much higher build quality.

I agree that they seem to be on the expensive side, however good rechargable batteries are expensive. If you have power outages or rolling blackouts the larger battery might be totally worth it. Even if you don't need it for the fan. In my experience you can't have enough battery banks. Definitely a good review of both of the fans.
@NiSE_Rafter Жыл бұрын
People often have power tools and getting an inverter for those would be more versatile rather than paying more for a battery stuck in one machine. I've used my Ryobi batteries with their inverter for camping and during power outages multiple times. I already had the batteries and got the inverter during a promo basically for free.
@dpro34s Жыл бұрын
For 2x the money you, get 4x the battery capacity in the Venty. It's more expensive up front, but more useful down the line!
@roberthoffman4713 Жыл бұрын
@Jason N I have Milwaukee tools and batteries. I also have a converter that converts them to usb or 12 v at 2 anps and an inverter that makes 110 volts. But with all the stuff that runs on battery and that the kids are addicted to, I don't mind having extra power banks around. Plus if the powers out the ac is out and the longer run time might just come in handy. I have a generator and use it when the powers out for a long time but I only run it long enough to let the refrigerator and freezers catch up, and recharge the stuff that we use. Luckily the longest we have had to go was 7 days and we didn't need to run the heat or fans. But I can't hope for that all the time. I even have some solar to recharge battery devices when possible. If the batteries in the fan are actually the mah advertise then the fans probably not to badly priced.
@hisimagenme Жыл бұрын
Night light feature is actually pretty practical... can't tell you how many stubbed toes we've had over the years with "fan feet" walking into a dark room or getting up to go to the bathroom and summer fan is on all night. That was pretty smart if you ask me. We always use oscillation as it really can move more air on low. $80 bucks, no. We now prefer the 360 oscillating fans. Those are the bomb. If that feature was in this fan I'd definitely pay $80 for it. Thinking battery life, power outage is a thing to think about. Having a fan, even on low for 48 hours worth of cooling is far better than 10. Over all I think you get what you pay for considering inflation these days on the Venti.

I can see cruisers finding the Venty pretty useful. People like to take fans on their cruise, but there are restrictions and I think the Venty would fit the requirements. Also, the added bonus of it having a charging feature and a nightlight are also both items cruisers find useful.

This was the first thought I had too. The issue with both of these fans is that the built in battery means you can't pack it in a checked bag on an airplane. The Venty folding down smaller would be much better for fitting in a back pack or some other carry on while doubling as a decent power bank for the flight as well.

These battery fans are a lifesaver. I used one that just had a clip on it when I was cashiering at a grocery store. It was hot and the fan kept me alive all shift. Then I've used it for outdoors with the kids and camping. Just great to have.

The light function piqued my interest because I've gone though some power outages in bad thunderstorms where it's 90 something degrees outside/80 something inside and I need a fan, but also a light. I wish it was just a tad cheaper, but yeah I would definitely grab one of those just for the power outage reason alone. I would also use it in my bathroom on summer days because it gets ridiculously hot and humid in there. Like others said it would be fabulous for camping as well.

Thank you for your video. As others have said, I think the Venty fan would be good for camping/car camping. I don't know if it's worth an extra $40, but I think 'thinkx' nailed it - the light, and the charging station feature. If you are not traveling, Vornado fans are the best and quietest fans I've ever seen. I bought one once, despite the fact that they are EXPENSIVE, but it was the best fan I've ever seen/used. The shape and size of it made it next to impossible to conceive of traveling with it though... and I think these fans are for traveling, but very specific kinds of traveling. Hotels - you have unfettered access to the AC and lights, so not that kind of travel. Seems very niche, in actual purpose, but I can see how American consumers would convince themselves that they NEED one. In my opinion, if you need a fan for the home, you have three reasonable options. Option 1, get a $10 fan. Option 2, get a $30 quieter fan. Option 3, get a Vornado fan (it'll last for years, it won't annoy you like the $10 fan, and you'll be more comfortable, every single day, for years). All this other stuff, well, it has a place and purpose, but I don't see these products as 'home goods'. I see them as specific type of travel goods. Like a camping stove. You can use it in your home, but you can also use, uh, a stove that isn't a camping stove. You can get a fan that isn't optimized for 'battery life' and has 'a light', because you probably have power outlets and lights in your home. I mean, I hope...

Many hotels can be hit and miss when it comes to climate control. It could be broken, or doesn't get cold enough, or it has trouble pushing the warm air across the room. Or even, climate control doesn't exist - may not even have a fan. That's where this can come in handy.

These seem to be good, IF you're going to use them for what they're good for. Basically, if you need something portable, good battery life, close range, oscillating, and could serve as a battery bank than the Venty seems like a pretty good buy. However, most people watching this video would probably just use it as a desk or sofa/chair fan, and for that you're probably better off with a regular wired fan with more power and cheaper besides, I think. It'd probably be good for summer camping though, since it can do all of those things and is relatively compact.

Even on low from 4 rooms/half the 1st floor away on 100 degree humid nights with poor ventilation, we could feel it in the living room and it genuinely cooled the rooms down. It's that powerful and really does work if you mess with how you aim it. Only downfall was the noise at higher speeds but we rarely needed it above 1 or 2.

I went ahead and splurged on a My Foldaway Fan after seeing your review on that one, and it is my new best friend. The price is far more accessable for someone like me on a fixed income. I can move it easily from my bed when I sleep to my PS4 when I game, and when summer hits it is a lifesaver to take in the bathroom when I have to, say, spend more time in there. I utterly adore My Foldaway, and though I would love a remote, doubling the price is really not an option for me just for that feature. I'm probably gonna get the Venty fan solely for the fact it has a longer battery life. My bf and I need a smaller fan because our current fan just takes up too much room as it stands on the floor, and it's never higher than 1 or 2 max out of 5 power settings, so it's unnecessary. We also lack good places to plug it into (both of our computer desks are in the bedroom plus a printer and shredder, phone chargers, and a dehumidifier...phew, apartment living lol). I personally don't sleep with the fan on but my bf needs to because he's a hot sleeper. With the Venty, we could have it going on battery life all night, then close it up and charge it at whichever outlet in the daytime. The added bonus of a nightlight is just another plus, saves outlet space and we'd actually have it off during the day lol.

I've had mine for over a year and it is a nifty little fan. I saw it after getting spammed with ig ads until I finally got one. It's really nice, however I did have some small oddities that I hope they fixed: For starts. Their usb cable they give you isn't rated for the charging current it needs. I've ended up having to use my Nintendo switch usb c cable and it seemed to do the trick. The other thing was ensuring you are using a using a 5v2.1a charger or above to use it. I do feel that the voltage recommendations aren't accurate. The manual say to use a 5v2a cable, but I've noticed when you have it plugged in with maybe two features on; it'll eventually die on the charger which can be pretty annoying. it's safe to use a 5v3a and it'll work fine. Idk why their customer service didn't know about their voltage recommendations for their own product but I thought this would be helpful. They've sent me the wrong usb c cable twice before I figured all of this out. BTW, thanks for this video! I've always wanted to see a comparison on these two fans lol

6:45 maybe it's just me but without looking at the advertising campaigns or kickstarters or anything, it very much seems like having a super portable fan would be great for camping, so having the built-in light and a battery bank is... wildly neat. Plus being so much thinner than the other. definitely crucial when it comes to duffel/backpack space. I wouldn't spend 80 bucks on it unless I didn't already have a hefty battery pack and camping lanterns - I'd only need the fan part of it, but for someone who needs an all-in-one, if the quality is actually good long-term, that's neat.

I really wish you had some more tests with the battery longevity. I have an off grid cabin that gets hot. The Venty fan is probably a great option for me, but which one charges faster? 8 hours of use per night for 5-6 nights sounds great, but if it takes significantly longer to charge on the generator, maybe it's a no from me. We charge everything we need in 1-2 hours every 2-3 days. Extending that means more gasoline.
@dustinworcester2799 Жыл бұрын
I think the real thing with the features is to keep in mind your own use case. It's a portable fan meant to run on battery power and not be plugged in all the time, so your use of it being within arms reach and at your desk at all times is pretty narrow compared to what I think their target market is. The powerbank feature would be awesome for someone who is going to want/need one anyway, but now they can also get a good functional product maybe on the beach or while camping, etc. So I can definitely see the perks of those features but man $80 for a small plastic and aluminum fan really would be tough to justify, no matter the features.

My first thought with the Venty was it would be great on a nightstand. When it's hot weather, besides the window air conditioner and ceiling fan, I have a clip-on, corded fan on my headboard. Thing is, it doesn't oscillate, so if I roll at night. might not get a breeze. Besides the oscillation, the Venty could have duel purpose as a light on your nightstand, and aimed towards the bed, the breeze would go from head to foot. The remote would be handy. Keep it under your pillow, and you don't have to put forth any effort (roll over, fumble for the controls, etc) to control the whole works. Another great idea, is down in the storm cellar. You not only have some light, and a fan if desired (I'm extremely hot natured, and I'd been down there with my 100lb & 60lb dogs, so air circulation would be nice.) Then of course, you have the ability to charge your cell phone. I wish it wasn't so expensive. Maybe it will come down in price, be put on sale. Otherwise I'll have to wait for my refund check, or win the lottery.

With a 16,000mah battery, that 80 Dollar fan has about 45 watt hours. A decent floor fan will use 25 watts on low and 45 on med and about 60 on high. So about an hour on a decent AC floor fan is what that battery is equivalent. To get 10 hours of runtime from this fan is to use 4.5 watts. 4.5 watts doesn't do crap. Drop it to 5 hours and we're talking 9 watts of air moving (assuming the oscillator isn't running), which also doesn't do crap.

My mom gave me an older model of My Fold Away Fan. The date code says 2104, so I am thinking that it was manufactured in July 2014. It has a micro USB and also runs on 4 AA batteries. The USB does not recharge the batteries, they run independently of the other. It is also a desktop model which telescopes between 6 to 12 inches in height. Only has 3 settings, OFF, LOW, or HIGH which is controlled by the touch of one button. Pretty pleased with it while it is plugged in, however, with batteries, even strong Alkaline batteries, it seems like it only lasts up to 15 hours on low, maybe up to 12 on high, didn't actually allow the batteries to go dead since I am really only using it inside. The label also only says Household use only. For the featured fans, I likely would continue with the My Fold Away Fan for $40.

As an avid overlander, the Venty fan looks is worth at least 3 times more than the other one. The battery alone has almost 5x the capacity, and the remote feature would be most convenient. The way I see it, this product isn't designed for use as a stationary desk fan, so shouldn't have been reviewed as such. The real test would be cutting the power off to your home in the summer for a weekend, or take it camping for a few days, and see which one you'd recommend then. I'd bet money that you'd change your mind to the Venty by day 2. If you need a desk fan or a home fan, get one designed for that purpose. I enjoy most of your reviews, but this one, although it covers all of the bases, wasn't a really accurate test.

How loud are these fans, really? The Venty's oscillation feature seems like it would be much quieter than standard oscillating fans because the whole unit turns instead of just the fan part. That is where most of the noise comes from an regular fans.

I saw this review a while back and thought to myself, "Oh, who cares? I live in Seattle, and it's not going to be hot for a few more months!" Whoops! It is REALLY hot in Seattle now! And it's only the middle of May! Suddenly I had to go back and find your review. Tomorrow I hope to buy some fans! 😂😅

A bigger one (a couple inches) with a bigger battery and taller reach, maybe even a reading light integrated into the fan hub would be great. It could even have flip out feet on the bottom for extra stability.

Might have been mentioned but I live in Texas. We lose power enough that in the summer this would be awesome. Even in other times it’s hot enough.

It's worth the extra $40 if you live in New Orleans and want to prepare for hurricane season. A fan blowing for 48 hours when there is no power is a game changer.

Hey man, been loving your reviews for a couple of years now, most honest and informational reviews online! I was wondering ive you got an update on the "Range Mate Pro" , if they have new product or if its still as good as a couple of years ago? Thanks, keep up the good work!

Love my fold away. Put it next to my bed or on my desk and it’s lovely and cool.

I have the Venty for my office that doesn't have any type of airflow and it's a lifesaver! But, the On button on the remote has never worked so I feel kinda dooped there

Should've tested the battery life.. I'd get the $80 fan if the battery was significantly better than the $40 fan.

Which one is louder? I need the fan for the noise at night. And the white noise machines don't work for me (my brain can tell they're not a real box fan)

If you need a battery-powered fan, the Venty fan will make you much happier than the short-lived Foldaway. A good rechargeable battery is expensive! This is one of those cases where you get valuable features for the extra money.

The USB-C cable instead of a Micro USB cable is already argument enough for me to choose one over the other. Trying to phase out deprecated cables and unify them.

I think the Venti would shine more for camping over night. The light would work well in a tent and even charge your phone.

How do you actually order a fan in Canada? All I see are short films on how it works. Thank you

Does the Venty run while plugged in? Does its battery charge while running?

Yea they are both over priced But I would like to have the Venty for camping for the longer battery life and the light

Having spent 2 summers in a poorly insulated apartment, the Venty would be a godsend during a power outage. Even a small breeze is better than 90 degree stale air.

If the fan is on the floor next to your bed and you need to make the call at night, it would be good to see where you put your feet, so as to not step on the base in the dark! OUCH! But it is not worth the extra $40, I agree with you on That!

Instead of throwing away the arbitration clause, you should return any item that comes with an arbitration clause. Make sure you tell them it is BECAUSE of the arbitration clause that you are returning it. That is the *only* way they are going to stop doing it. These things are EVIL. They are robbing you of your rights.

If you're going to take the fan camping or out door somewhere, the Venty seems like a great idea. If you're just using it in the home, the fold away would take the win.

Why even get a folding, rechargeable fan if it's for daily use? I'd rather get a cheaper larger $20 fan. However, If it's for power outages, I'd pick the Venty all day long.

I got a Hart battery operated fan for $15 & drill was on clearance for dirt cheap too which i really just bought for the battery & fan has impressive power for a battery fan. Better than a lot of crappy plug in options a.t.m. For $80 that shit better b metal & hella breezy. That's too much. Cute idea tho.
