Didn’t Ons play Venus at Wimbledon last year (at the age of 42) and struggled in the first set eventually winning 7/5 ? Even with Venus’ illness of syogens syndrome ? Please….. didn’t Clijsters come back for a brief moment and play 3 setters (in her unfit state) against these younger players ? Do I continue ?

Finally a great Quality HL, this is a world class tennis match, between two unbelievable athletes. Amazing rallies, never seen such a contest in the Us Open from the womens, actually was the most anticipated match from that year. Its one of my favorite non win matches from Venus. Stamina run out in the end but credit for clijsters for staying there from the get go. Thank u JO

Since 2005 Antwerp QF, Kim Clijsters won all 5 matches played against Venus Williams (including brutal destruction in 2010 Miami final) and ultimately proved herself superior, winning head to head 7-6 (from 2-6 down). Venus Williams won at 2001 USO, Kim Clijsters bested her in USO 2005, 2009 and 2010 (beat Serena in 2 sets afterwards at 2009 USO)

​​​@@SmithyPLI disagree Kim is not a superior player to Venus. Unfortunately Venus is a head case after 2003 she struggled to beat the top players and could not close out a match. Those loses to Kim in 05, 09 & 10 Venus had the match on her racket it was hers to win, it was a mental game why she keep losing to Clijsters. Kim Clijsters said herself that Venus was one of her toughest opponent and she even admitted in the press conference after their 4th round match at 2009 US Open that Venus was not at her best and was not playing her usual self. Contribute Venus drop in level to her injuries and disease she is suffering with she needed to be physically fit to beat Clijsters.

​​​​​​​​​@@SmithyPL After 2003 Venus was not the same player it was not just Clijsters Venus was losing to in 2005 she lost to Mauresmo, Sharapova, Davenport & Clijsters. She barely managed to beat Davenport at the 2005 Wimbledon final saving a match point. Before 2003 Venus was dominating those players. In 2004 Davenport finally defeat Venus again after 4 years losing streak to Venus losing 9 out of 10 meeting to Venus 2000-2003 but in 2004-2005 Davenport won 4 out of 5 matches. Shows something happend to Venus in her career 1998-2003 she won 29 titles in 5 years but 2004-2016 she won just 20 titles in 12 years. This was why the tennis community was saying around that time when Venus was just 24-25 years old that she should retire from the game cause her game didn't look the same and she was losing to players that she should beat. Venus was just no longer a force in the game after 2003 despite winning 3 more Wimbledon titles 2005, 2007 & 2008 which is an remarkable achievement Clijsters has no Wimbledon titles to her name Venus has five and Venus also have a few US Open titles wonder how many more Grand Slams she would have won had she been healthy.

It wasn't a great match at all. I remember watching this live. There were too many errors from both players. There are a lot of great rallies but a lot more unforced errors. One of their worst matches together in my opinion.

good stuff. none of the blooper ball that was still around. today , matches like Swiatek , Sabalinka, etc are near all solid hitting line drives. Sometimes even Serve / volley like. Mugaroza, When She's been healthy for 4 or 5 months..... (all spelling my made up versions.) Some fun in match stats , about 10: 25 min in. for the record, K.C. won in 3 sets , 4-6 , 7-5. and 6'1. then She bear # 1 seed M. Sharapova in the semis, also 3 sets.. K.C. v. Henin 2010 Aussie is one of the best. 15 min Utube.

Kim was a crowd favourite too, and hadn't won a slam yet, so I think the crowd just wanted her to win. Of course, there was a history with the Williams sisters, and there is still an issue, but I don't believe the crowd was against Venus.
