Bought Bitwig as a christmas gift for myself and have fully switched to it from Ableton. It's not perfect and there's some QoL issues that need to be fixed (no default tracks, no direct clip stretching etc) but it makes up for that with the endless modulation options and creative freedom. Not to mention it runs wayyy smoother than Ableton does. Can't wait to actually start making some tracks with it!

I've been using Cubase forever - and Steinberg on the Atari ST before you were born (probably) but watched a few of your Bitwig vids (and an "intro to" from 1 of the guys you recommended) and my jaw is dropping. Seriously thinking of changing. Cubase seems very linear and rigid (which has its + points) by comparison. This looks more like a psychedelic well of infinite idea triggers you just jump into. Eye opening.

Bitwig and Cubase are a pretty great pair IMO - Cubase is still my preferred mixing environment and does have a lot of great audio processing tools, but Bitwig is insane for just getting weird and creative with stuff and is really like an instrument itself. Highly recommend giving it a try sometime!

im trying out the bitwig trial rn switching from Ableton and OH MY GOD! A majority of my issues with Ableton that had to be done with annoying and convoluted methods are thought of and accounted for in Bitwig Studio. With that and it being so similar to Ableton makes it so perfect for me. The only thing I'm missing is my Max For Live devices and the Ableton convolution reverb but honestly there are so many ways around that I'm not too worried. Plus with all of the things you can do in Bitwig Studio I wouldn't be surprised if I could just remake those M4L devices in Bitwig. Most likely gonna be buying it when my tax returns come in even if I don't use it as my main DAW!

Modulators are so amazing and powerful. They convinced me to buy Bigwig. Unfortunately I'm a pretty advanced Logic user so using anything else feels so slow and clunky to me that I've not used it as much as I'd like. I'm hoping that Logic implements (i.e. steals) some of this functionality soon like they have done with the clip launcher workflow. Big respect to Bitwig for pioneering this stuff tho. I hope to get round to improving my skills in it at some point (though I would probably have to upgrade my laptop - I run a relatively modern MacBook Pro and can't run most sessions without some audio glitching.)
@KnzoVortex3 жыл бұрын
I will say, having a powerful modular environment like this is something you got to think about from the beginning, if it’s implemented into logic now it would probably be clunky, inefficient, and not as clean sounding. I’m saying this from being another logic Bitwig switcher. The total integration of all these features is really what makes Bitwig special, nothing ever feels tacked on, it all feels tightly and purposefully stitched together. And it is also really intuitive, and you’ll probably be able to figure this stuff out pretty fast. There are a few QoL things that are missing from Bitwig, like moving multiple mixer faders at once, so keep that in mind. Also I doubt Apple would want to implement these into their daw anyways. Sorry for being a bit doomer :p

How about because not everyone needs modulators in their music? Also, a lot of this can be done via automation (where S1 has lots more tools than Bitwig) or 3rd party plugins. I'm not saying S1 > Bitwig, but S1 can also do things Bitwig can't so lets stay objective and stop with this polarisation and 'vs' mentality :)

Everyone has other demands for their daws. Not saying Bitwig doesn't have cool features I'd like in Studio One, but Studio One has features I need for my workflow. @KnzoVortex3 жыл бұрын
UVI shade packs all of that power in a single plugin, with I think infinite eq bands and plenty of complex shapes not on any Bitwig eq. Bitwig also doesn’t have MSEGs modulators yet for some god forsaken reason despite everyone’s never ending whining about it. Also in terms of creative eqs, you should check out apQualizer2 by Apulsoft, super underrated company with super underrating plugins. Also doesn’t have MSEGs and doesn’t have some of the more exotic filter shapes available in Shade, but has a lot of other tricks up its sleeve: uniquely clean filers when made reeaally steep allowing some really interesting shapes to be made, polyphonic midi controls, really cool modal filters, unique modulators, etc. And I think it’s a bit cheaper than Shade ($69).

As far as I'm aware, not really. I think the only time it'd really matter is if you're using things that will naturally impact the phase like filters or other things. I'm not sure if it does any kind of compensation/latency detection, but the manual or support forums may offer more insight.
