A Bong on starting is a sure sign the battery is getting weak. Usually you might see Special Programs Disabled message also. For me when this happens the battery will soon fail. Thanks for great videos.

This is maybe the consequence of the Smoke leak detector ! Using your battery to heat a wire to burn oil to generate smoke may have taken its toll.

We have checked that. Before we posted that question here in this video, we have taken the car of course apart. Christian has not left anything untried. There are some combinations when the bing does not come, but they are not 100% repeatable. And, would you believe, one scenario is that the car is parked uphill in our driveway, rather than downhill. 😅🙋‍♀️ Vera

I think Vera's last comment is a very telling one, 'I miss that Freelander'. I own a Freelander 2 and love it. With it's 4 cylinder motor (TD4 or Si4) it's so much simpler to work on. Every video I watch you guys working on that complicated V6 where you can't even get your hand in to change anything, I'm just glad I got the Freelander. Love your channel though. Keep it coming. Very stylish Christian, You just upped the expectations of women around the world. No longer can we buy them a shovel or wheel barrow, now it is car parts. I did not expect such a major difference in the light spread or colour - I don't know if the colour rendering would have been that different if you had used OEM Zenon elements, though I imagine it would have been brighter than the 15 year old ones. The new ones you used were different to the OEM. My Zenon headlights are still quite blueish/white like your new ones, however where I live (just out of Brisbane, Australia), my lights only come on when the sensor determine it should come on.

Me again - I have just bought the Osram Night Breaker 220 Xenarc lights for my 2016 D4 (the later versions use the D3S). The ones you bought are excellent, but don't perform so well in the wet according to all the tests I have seen - the Night Breakers give an excellent road view at night and are significantlky better in the rain that the Cool Blue Intense - not much between them in the dry, but in the wet the Night Breaker excels. And thanks for the hint about the output fading over time - I think mine are still the originals and still work fine, but I'm changing them now. 👍

Just re-watched this excellent video.... Very important point about changing light bulbs... On a warm sunny day, no ptoblem. But, if there is any damp in the atmoshphere I would bring the headlight assembly inside the house and leave it for at least an hour to reach room temperature - then change the lamp. This avoids any damp and condensation getting inside the lamp housing while it is unsealed. On my old car I changed some bulbs on a cold and wet day and damp got inside and they then got condensation on the inside and steamed up a bit.

An update you two…my LR3 (4.4 V8) is at about 440K km. My left low HID went out yesterday between Montreal and Ottawa. It is original. The engine and transmission are fine….went through serious AC and brake line replacement (chassis lift, etc) during pandemic in fall 2021. Have rust showing on body incl corrosion of aluminum…ride is still the best! Haven’t seen a better alternative replacement vs keeping this one running… had to give up a 2021 V70 with 330k a couple weeks ago (to Kidney Foundation)…had too many issues and baggage ;(

Update: my ‘05 made it to 453K km…front flex brake line failed, other is waiting to go…they found 65mm hole in frame, shifter bushing at transmission is seized, etc. we can’t rationalize spending more on it I’m afraid. :(

I'm settled on the idea that bright xenon bulbs have speculative real world benefits but the down side of blinding glare for oncoming traffic is well proven.

Surely only for those people who fit HID bulbs into reflectors designed for halogen? HID bulbs fitted into reflectors or projectors designed for HID bulbs have no issue, the light beam has a clearly defined cut-off pattern and do does not bleed our cause glare to oncoming vehicles.

@@VaderWhoop I don't think it is a case of badly fitted bulbs nor an issue with light stream glare. Its not as if the full beam is on and its blinding. The bright white light can be nauseating. If you ever travel on unlit dual carriage way or motorway the oncoming stream of traffic has you reaching for some yellow specs.

Hi Vera and Chris, trust you are well…our LR is close to 17 yrs on the road for us…just returned from Cape Breton a few days ago…393K on odometer. My left xenon is original, right was replaced 6 yrs or so ago. Corrosion makes slipping the head light assembly sliders up/down a real challenge/risk…worried too about brittle plastic . Did I tell you about loss of air suspension at 130 kph on Trans Canada in Saskatchewan last October…and the 600km lift to LR dealer? Enjoying your program!

Osram Xenarc CBI have been my go-to for my LR3, LR4 and RRS now. Definitely a great price-performance-value bulbs. 100Euro for a 2-pack. Once I bought a D2S from a LR dealer in a pinch before a long trip and they charged me almost $500 for it, quoted $300 for a yellowish aftermarket one, which did not match the OEM tinge. Osram CBI has that great, crisp, sharp white light which gives you a great visibility...

I also tried cheap Chinese bulbs in our LR4 for 28 Euro/pair and the difference is nearly not noticeable. Reason was that Osram almost doubled their price. Christian

Just to Annoy(?) Christian. At 6:35 and 6:42 you can see the position of the "difficult" light grey cover. The label is "horizontal" when the light unit is in its fitted position and the tab on that cover is opposite the white electrical socket, pointing towards the centre of the car. When you refitted the cover the label/ tab were at 45⁰. Sealed?

Excellent video as always. Vera's side lights look so yellow in comparison - had you thought about swapping out the filament lamps for the LED equivalent - brighter and a more white light. I did this on my vehicle and it was very much better.

I am sorry but I like the look of the Discovery 3 lights 😃👍. I am actually quite proud of driving the Disco 3 instead of the Disco 4. The side lights are not that important. I also do not want to put those headlights into the oven and remove the orange foil from the indicator lights. 🙋‍♀️

@@Vera_and_Christian I didn't mean to change the lights at all - just replace the bulb of the side lights with the LED equivalent (like you just did with the headlights). It would look exacltly the same, but the side lights would be whiter and brighter - cost would just be the cost of the LED lights, about €10 or so, I think. PowerfulUK also do the LED equivalents for the rear fog and reversing lights - excellent and much brighter (especially reversing) I think the full LED set for the rear is about €50.

Just realised you may have misunderstood ... By "side lights" I mean the small white lights next to the headlights (sometimes called "parking lights) the ones you had on at the start. Not the amber direction indicator lights - sorry.

Very interesting about the lights. I also have the bing when I start mine too. Not sure why, I was going to plug the seatbelt in first to see if it stops. I could be a test bing.

I can have it start without that bing under these circumstances : 1. Car is parked uphill ( our driveway has a slope) 2. I do not push the clutch ( I always, always push down the clutch) and 3. When starting, I let it rest a couple of seconds on the first click when I turn the key ). But it is not repeatable 100% That is why we are not sure if its really a system check. A starting sequence should not be affecting the delicate Discovery system 😅 🙋‍♀️ Vera

You don't need to register your car to travel on the road. Only register if you plan to use for comercial reasons like a taxi. ;) Big secret mostly everyone does not know. "Driver" is a commercial word. Same with "vehicle" otherwise is it just private property. :)

Very funny video guys , osram really are the best value for money bulbs , i currently have Lunex 4300k d2s in my D3 ( £23 on ebay ). Vera the bong on ignition is just to tell you that the car is ok to start now ( pre ignition checks completed ) .

My LR3 does the same “bing”. This seems normal to me as it has always done it. I once tried a Ssangyoung Musso. This not only “bings” but plays a silly “bing-bang-bong” tune that drove me so nuts, that I have to return it early to the dealer which had let me try it it on demo! My JCB Fastrac makes a similar “bing” to the LR3. But is courteous enough to also great me with a “hello’ on the dash and a “good-bye”when it is turn it off. That is only when I remember to wear my glasses and can actually read it! My Range-Rover Sport makes no “bings’ unless there is an error. Which is usually because it cannot read the TPMS pressure on the spare wheel. Happily, it forgets this error most of the time, thank goodness! But, hey-ho, it is a Landrover and is only to be expected on all its product.

We bought Osram. We also used cheap Chinese before and the worked well for a third of the price. Make sure to check the manual for the type. LR3 is different from LR4. Christian

Oh my goodness..in our 2006 LR3 V8 (USA Model) we had both our front light bulbs changed as they burned out a few months within each other. On the drivers side Shoppe changed bulb by reaching back there and I don't think they charged us anything to do it it was so easy. Some months later the passenger side burned and to my horror they changed light bulb by taking parts out from behind the light assembly to be able to get to and change it..one hour labor $100. I couldn't believe it $100 to change a light bulb. Now here I see the whole lighting assembly is removable and its a quick easy job with it out..oh brother : (

The Xenon bulbs don't have self adjusters on them? I thought that all Xenon's had to have them for safety purposes. Our Volvo has the automatic up/down feature when you start the car to adjust for proper alignment. So you sold both the Freelander and the Challenger. Any hints as to what the new vehicle will be?

When i was selling these bulbs i would tell them: Don't touch the bulb with your fingers And right there, on the parts counter, they would touch the bulbs 😞 We kept alcohol and paper towels under the counter for such occasions 😂

Hello Steven, we have the icarsoft OBD ii 930, which we bought a long time ago, before 2016. And are really happy with it, everything we need we can do with do with that tool. Now, like you wrote, there are updated versions. Their webside has a good description of those models, but we have not looked indepth at those. Now I have to say that we recently, like 2 weeks ago, purchased a used GAP tool. We also had to buy a transfer of ownership in addition. But we haven't had any time to deal with it yet. There will be more to come down the road. But I have to say, we would have never purchased a new one, costing at least 600 € for us in Germany. We paid in all 300€. 🙋‍♀️ Vera

No, the glow plugs are have their own indicator light in the dashbord. It's a orange spiral, and I always, always wait until that one is turned off. 🙋‍♀️ Vera

@@Vera_and_Christian yeah i always wait aswell otherwise the engine won't be pre heated properly. Before starting....but every time i get that bing noise is the exact same time the orange glow plug indicator goes off...but i am very interested to no what its for.

@@rustytwinkles7762👍 on our car, it turns off exactly at the moment that SRS light (airbag) turns off, but from what I read, that is just a coincidence. 🙋‍♀️

Is there an easy way to switch the xenon from left hand drive to right hand drive? To avoid having to put stickers on the lenses. On my old mondeo there was a lever that moved the beam Cut off shutter.

I use Osram bulbs too on all my lights but to bright you knowledge I suggest you translate „osram” word to polish lol
