Nice to see a new video from you. About the Operator Panel or what HP calls the SID, it slides out from where the eject decal is printed on the fascia above the DVD drive (you can actually see this on the diagram on the top cover). You push it in and it pops out (like an SD card) the panel then flips down vertically. It is a factory standard feature, well at least that’s what I remember from memory. Can’t wait to see the other goodies you snagged. Reminds me that I need to get a better UPS myself. 1500VA just don’t cut the mustard even on ULP servers!

Ahhhh I just had a go and you're right (it was about as dusty as the CPU board too)! I must've been too eager to get it fired up I think and completely blew past reading the operator panel instructions. Interesting that it comes as a factory standard. I know for sure that not all models of the 380 have it, but this is the first 580 for me to own, new territory. UPS-wise I was previously running everything off an APC SmartUPS 1500 however ran into the same issues where it'd only offer me about 20 minutes of runtime on battery which isn't really long enough to save and shutdown all VM's, then the hosts. 3000VA gives just enough clearence and plenty of runtime now!

Hello. To open up the phisical dashboard, just push with your finger on the arrow pointing up on top of the CD Rom. That will Popup the dashboard a little bit. Then grab it and pull it out and swivel down.

Great to see another video from you mate, love old big servers!! 4U machines are always fascinating, and funny... Imagining how expensive this would've been

I used to have one of these machines a few years ago. It ran four quad core E7440s with 80 GB of installed memory. Used it for Proxmox. The technology was fun to play with but the performance was bloody terrible and consumed far too much electricity. I now have an DL380 Gen8 which has over twice as many cores(40 cores) and is much more energy efficient. Would really love to get my hands on an IBM x5 just to toy with though.

I have a DL380 G7 going spare if you want to add it to your collection. Has a pair of Xeon E5620's and 12GB ram installed. No HHD's or caddies though

Hello friend, when I connect my server to the electricity it does not turn on, even using the power button, the fans do not work either and no led on the board where the hard drives are, only the internal ones turn on, do you know what it could be?

have you ever put a nvme pcie card to rejuvenate the poor storage bandwidth of systems like these?
@CobsTech
@CobsTech 3 жыл бұрын
You very much could with these, however they're a bit old and you'd likely run into bottlenecks with the CPU or RAM trying to keepup with the offload of the data from the disk, not to mention how much power the server draws!
