The compy's are actually full size. Some dinosaurs are huge, like the sauropods (long necks). Others are small, like the size of chickens. The Compsognathus was one of the smallest dinosaurs, if you don't count modern birds as dinos (which they are). Great reaction and would love your comments on the two novels. I try to read Jurassic Park annually but only read The Lost World one time. Both are great reads, especially the original. I read that baby in two days back in 1993, just before going to see the film for the first time.

I'm not sure but I think that the majority of dinosaurs were actually not much larger than humans. It could be that those we see in museums were only found because of their large size.

Incidentally, velociraptors were about the size of a turkey. Utahraptors were closer to the size that velociraptors are depicted in the movies (but with significantly more feathers), however they didn't get discovered until shortly after the first movie came out.
@DenverStarkey

@@StarkRG the ones in the movie were actually upsized Deinonychus , a raptor speices that stood about 4'5"- 5' tall and 9-10 feet long from snout to tail tip, . the author of the book based them on Deinonychus , but he liked velociraptor's name better so he switched them out . and then spielbrg just upscaled them from the books already too big size of 5-6 ft. making them about 6-7 feet tall in the movie with a body length of roughly 12-13 ft. utah raptors are actually much larger than the oversized raptors in JP . utah raptors on average were 9-12 feet tall and abotu 16-18 feet from snout to tail in length.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but the title "The Lost World" is actually a throwback from a Sir Arthur Conan Doyle book about dinosaurs (yes, the author of Sherlock Holmes) They made a movie of it several times including the 20s. The 1960 version has Max from the Sound of Music in it. But nothing beats the book!

The fliers are Pteranodon longiceps, though they were originally intended to be Geosternbergia (you can actually see an image of the Geosternbergia design in the field guide the hunters have and I also believe in the RV on one of the screens). Pterodactyl isn't really a thing, it's a common misnomer for Pteranodon and Pterosaurs in general (which are not dinosaurs but a closely related group of reptiles). There is a genus called Pterodactylus (which is where pterodactyl comes from) but it is much smaller and looks quite different from the famous Pteranodon. Also, fun fact: the guy who gets eaten outside the video store (credited as Unlucky Bastard) is David Koepp, the screenwriter for the movie.

38:32-38:56 Technically, these ones are Pteranodons, not Pterodactyls. Even though this sequel didn't capture the beauty and amazement as its predecessor did, I still enjoyed it. Also, the tiny dinosaurs that attacked Cathy Bowman and Dieter Stark are called Compsognathus, or Compys for short. They are the smallest dinosaur we see throughout this franchise. Fun Fact: Sarah Harding, Ian Malcolm's girlfriend, is the daughter of Gerry Harding from the first movie.

The plot hole that I told you about in the comments for the first movie is at the end of this one: what killed the boat crew? Did the T-Rex get out of the hold, kill them, get back into the hold and close the doors? The reason is there were originally supposed to be raptors on the ship as well.

Nobody ever notices that Jeff Goldblum absolutely dematerialized the tip of Vince Vaughn’s finger with the heel of his boot when he tried to kick the trailer door open. On accident of course. Also, they didn’t have to make Eddie die in such a horrifying way. He was being a hero and got a death fit for a villain. Bums me out.
@amberanime

His death and that girl in the 4th movie really are the only deaths I am uncomfortable watching. the girl I skip because of how long it lasts and it's just not needed. Eddie at least gets to show off how much of a hero he is, because even when the T rex's show up, he doesnt try to run for it, he keeps his foot on the gas. I watch his death to honor his bravery, but it's not an easy watch. To be fair, if you get ripped in half your gone pretty fast. So he probably didn't suffer as much as it looks. T rex's are super strong and kill quickly.

@@amberanime yeah, Zara has the most undeserved death in the franchise. Made worse by how long it’s drawn out. It’s as if her getting annoyed at Zach and Grey wasn’t totally justified. It makes the movie have actual stakes and feel more serious than the silliness of the modern films where the good guys always come out unscathed and only bad guys get harmed. Also, the original book literally opens with a baby getting eaten alive. This series was never one for pulling punches.
@nonconsensualopinion
@nonconsensualopinion Жыл бұрын
I think part of it is not all deaths have to be deserved. There's a tragedy in an innocent life being taken. We're supposed to be aghast at how Zara dies. It shows a direct result of Claire not acting quickly enough to declare an emergency. Later we see a warehouse full of injured tourists being tended to.@@kudblythe

@@CryosisOfficial Exactly. A lot of audience members and even filmmakers keep thinking that the dinos should only kill the bad guys, when having it both ways is what makes things tense, unpredictable, realistic, and most of all, scary. So fun fact, when Roland, the hunter, rejects the job at San Diego with the line "I've spent enough time in the company of death", he's not referring to the Dinosaurs, but is instead actually means Ludlow. Also, I'm not sure if this was something you had thought, but when you talked about Ludlow dying, you mentioned the kids been upset. I just wanted to point out, as this is a common misconception in the movie, but Ludlow is not the Father of Lex and Tim, rather they are the children of Hammond's daughter, who isn't seen in the movies, while Ludlow is the son of Hammond's sister, and his Nephew.

38:45 "Are those pterodactyls? I don't actually know. They're the only flying dinosaur that I know of." Nope. That is a pteranodon. And it's not a dinosaur, it's a pterosaur. They look very similar but a major distinction is that Pterodactyls have teeth, while Pteranodons don't. This one doesn't, so Pteranodon. Pteranodons are much bigger than Pterodactyls but we would probably have to see one of each side by side to tell them apart that way. I'd stick with counting teeth when we only see one. They are both members of the pterosaur family. Ironically, Pteranodon lived in the Cretaceous period while Pterodactyl lived in the Jurassic period. Since this is JURASSIC park, it should have Pterodactyls, not these guys. But they have done THAT all through every movie, using the name "Jurassic" because it sounds cool but having dinosaurs from all over the timeline, even some that never lived in the Jurassic period, and even some that are not dinosaurs at all, like our friend the Pteranodon here.
@CryosisOfficial

Pterodactyl isn't a thing. Pterodactylus on the other hand is. Pteranodon and Pterodactylus are both Pterodactyloids, earlier Pterodacyloids mostly had teeth whereas some (but not all) later ones lost them in favor of full beaks. Pteranodon had a wingspan of up to around 20 feet, whereas Pteroadactylus had a measly little over 3 foot wingspan.

There's actually a game that was made which is on the same island. It had spielbergs oversight a bit but is an official tie in. It killed the company that made it but pushed the boundaries - it had complicated physics when physics in games weren't a thing. It's called Trespasser. Minnie Driver voices the protagonist and everything is controlled with the mouse working an arm, clicking for fingers, etc. Also has Richard Attenborough returning as Hammond for a lot of voiced audio journals.

more random trivia, after the rexes knock over the trailers and everyone is trying to open the door and both Ian and Nick say into the woods, Ian accidently kicks Nick's hand, you can see him wince in pain. During the San Diego scene you see a bunch of Japanese businessmen running from the Rex and they say something that translates to "I left Tokyo to get away from this". Also during that scene you see a skinny guy with glasses try to run into a building and the Rex picks him up and drops him behind a car so you don't see him getting munched, that's one of the producers of the movie, I don't know which one. If I was a producer of a JP movie I would totally be a background crowd character somewhere, possibly getting munched.

"I've spent enough time in the company of death." Roland already knew it then. He knew that this entire project would go sideways in the worst possible way and so he got out while he had the chance. Always gotta throw out that Roland the hunter didn't break the baby rex's leg. Cut scene had Ludlow getting drunk and falling on it breaking it's leg. The compsagnathus the little ones were full grown. In the books they had a mild venom that could eventually cause some paralysis which may explain how they downed Dieter.

@@VerowakReacts For sure. Though even with the little we do have I would argue he has dimension. Despite his questionable carreer choices he seems a man of honor. He helps people he knows sabotaged him for a starter. He is also very honest and open about why he is here. He doesnt play games, or kiss ass. He isn't there to make money or profit over somebody's back. Nor does he pretend he is justified in his actions. Its something he needs to do for himself, so he does it. Doesnt make him a good man, but it certainly gives him dimension that he has his own code of honor.

Sarah didn't tell Ian she was going to Isla Sorna because she knows how he feels about it, it's a huge life-altering trigger for him. But for her, a paleontologist, it's literally the greatest opportunity of her entire life. How can she pass that up? How can she tell him in advance without a massive fight and probably breaking up?
@jacobwalsh1888
@jacobwalsh1888 Жыл бұрын
Paleontologists study bones. Biologists study living things, and none of the Jurassic park dinosaurs are unaltered, so they are worthless for the purposes of studying actual dinosaurs, which makes her trip scientifically pointless and inherently selfish.
@blakewalker84120
@blakewalker84120 Жыл бұрын
@@jacobwalsh1888 I'll stand by what I said. Paleontologists ONLY study bones because they only HAVE bones. Paleontology is the study of ancient life. They use bones to figure things out because they have no other remains of that ancient life. If you invent a time machine and offer any paleontologist a trip back in time to observe and study dinosaurs, not a single one of them would say "Nah, I only study bones." Yes, the dinosaurs in the Jurassic franchise are genetically modified. Those modifications are minor. For example, in nearly all the species, their skeleton is identical to the real ones. You don't see T-Rexes with long forelimbs or 6 arms or 4 eyes or spiky tails or any other changes to their skeletal structure. How similar is the rest of it? Can we be sure the T-Rex tongue is the same as the extinct T-Rexes? Maybe not. If you see her catching flies with her tongue, you might think a little of that frog DNA is responsible... But when so much of it is morpicially identical to the fossil record, it's safe to say that the rest of it is likely to be accurate or nearly accurate.
